Parts of speech identification exercises:

Exercise 1: Identify the part of speech of each underlined word.

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. (adjectives)
I ran to the store to buy milk. (verb, noun)
The house on the hill is very big. (noun, noun, adjective)
She walked to school with her friends. (verb, preposition)
I like to play outside. (verb, verb)

Exercise 2: Fill in the blanks with the correct part of speech.


The (adjective) cat chased the (noun) mouse.
I went to the (noun) to buy (nouns).
She (verb) to school (preposition) her friends.

The (noun) on the (noun) is very (adjective).

Here is a paragraph for identification of parts of speech:

Here is a complex paragraph:

The old, abandoned house on the hill stood as a stark reminder of a bygone era. Its windows were
boarded up and its roof was caved in, but it still retained a certain dignity. One day, a group of curious
teenagers decided to explore the house. They climbed through a broken window and found themselves
in a dusty, cobweb-filled foyer. They cautiously made their way through the house, discovering old
furniture, peeling wallpaper, and faded photographs. As they explored, they felt a strange sense of
presence, as if they were being watched.
