Rationale
A. Background of the Study
-What is the current state of knowledge or understanding about the topic?
-What is the motivation behind the chosen project?
-What are the potential benefits or applications of the project?
-What are the anticipated outcomes or results of the project?
Note: The questions above are just your guide. DO NOT reflect it in your IP paper. Please see sample
below for the introduction.
We all know that our country today is suffering from crisis. That was the reason why
we want to launch this study, since shoe polish nowadays is very needed and is costly. Our
group want to produce a cheaper and efficient shoe polish to use. Shoe polish is used to
shine, to maintain the appearance and to sustain the quality of the shoes. For hundreds of
years, natural substances such as wax and tallow were used. The first shoe polish was
invented in 1906, the brand name is Kiwi which was developed by William Ramsay.
Based on the information we research, banana peels can be used to shine shoes, so
we researchers decided to come up with the study. Banana is common name for a fruit and
also the herbaceous plants of the genus Musa which produce the commonly eaten fruit.
Bananas are famous for their potassium, which also happens to be a primary ingredient in
many shoe polishes. Potassium and other natural oils found in bananas make for a powerful,
natural shoe polish. Rubbing a banana peel on dusty, scuffed-up boots and shoes will have
them looking new again in no time (Taylor, 2021).
Our shoe polish is most likely inexpensive and affordable considering it has only one
main material which is the banana peel. We believe that our study can provide the
consumers the great and effective quality in shining their shoes. Lastly, our product is
organic, natural and eco-friendly.
B. Statement of the Problem
Specifically, the researchers would like to answer the following questions:
1. Can banana peelings be used as shoe polish?
2. What is the component of banana peelings making it effective as an alternative
shoe polish?
3. How long does the shoe will shine using the banana peelings as polish?
4. Is the use of banana peelings as shoe polish safe?
C. Significance of the Study
-Importance of the study to the people and environment
-Who can benefit and how they can benefit
This study is a great way to reduce waste and the people can have polished shoes
without damaging their health and the environment leaving behind zero packaging waste.
The purpose also is to provide an eco-friendly shoe polisher that is made out from banana
peel. People can save money and make a shoe polisher themselves.
D. Scope and Limitations (This refers to elements on what to include and exclude. The scope
details what your study will explore and limitations refer to elements outside your control)
The researchers focus on determining the component of the banana peel making it
as an alternative shoe polish. This study will focus as well how acceptable the produced
product in terms of appearance, odor and effectiveness.
The study limits on comparing our product to the commercialized one such as Kiwi.
Its effectiveness is only used in a leather black shoe and not any other kinds such as rubber
shoes, crocs, etc.
E. Definition of Terms
Shoe polish – it is usually liquid, waxy pate or a cream, is a consumer product used
to shine, waterproof and restore the appearance of the shoes
Banana Peel – outer covering of the banana fruit
