conductors and is delivering full load current. If the brushes are
shifted by 4 mechanical degrees: Calculate:
(a) the demagnetising and
(b) cross-magnetising ampere-turns per pole. BB)
1.6. Name three types of de motors. BI
1.7. Discuss the various methods of speed control of a de motor. BI
1.8. A 460 V de series motor runs at 500 rpm taking a current of 40 A.
Total resistance of the armature and field circuits is 0,8 Q. Assume
that flux is proportional to the field current. Calculate:
(a) the speed and
(b) percentage change in torque if the load is reduced so that the
motor is taking 30 A. uy
[42]QUESTION 2
2.1 Draw the complete phasor diagram of a single-phase step-down
transformer with a turns ratio of 2:1 and feeding a load with a lagging
power factor of approximately 0,8. Show all winding impedance
voltage drops. [10]
2.2 On the elementary theory of an ideal transformer there are idealizing
assumptions made, list them. 14]
2.3 List the conditions that can be fulfilled for operating transformers in
parallel. 14]
