INTRODUCTION
Background of the Study
In the Philippines, a country often hit by natural disasters like typhoons,
earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions, having a reliable early warning system is crucial.
While cities have advanced technology for timely alerts, many smaller towns and rural
areas face challenges in getting timely information and sending out alerts during
disasters. The offices responsible for disaster management in these areas often have
limited resources. That's why it's important to create a system that helps them respond
quickly and effectively.
This research project aims to do just that by introducing a Computer Alert System
for Natural Disaster Preparedness. This system doesn't rely on fancy technology like
artificial intelligence. Instead, it's controlled directly by the local disaster management
offices. This way, the local authorities are in charge of making decisions and taking
action. This approach respects the knowledge and experience of these offices and
understands that using complicated technology might not be possible in places with
limited resources.
This system is really important because it helps bridge the gap in technology and
gives the local disaster management offices the tools they need to respond to disasters. It
provides an easy way for them to send out alerts based on their own assessments of the
situation. This is especially helpful for towns that are far from big cities or areas where
getting access to advanced technology is a challenge.
The way this system works is simple but very important. It doesn't constantly
monitor a lot of different sources or try to predict disasters. Instead, it relies on the local
disaster management offices to keep an eye on the current conditions. When they see a
threat, they can send a command through the system, which then sends out alerts to the
affected communities. This way, the alerts are based on accurate and current information
from local experts.
By creating and using this Computer Alert System, this research aims to empower
smaller towns and rural areas that might not have access to advanced technology. It's
expected that this system will be a big help in making these communities better prepared
for disasters. It will help them respond quickly and effectively when faced with natural
disasters. Through this straightforward approach, the research hopes to really make a
difference in disaster preparedness and response efforts in these vulnerable regions of the
Philippines.
Objectives of the Study
The researchers aim to achieve the following objectives:
To enable wireless communication between the MDRRMO office and the
prototype, IoT can be applied.
To ensure everyone is alerted to any natural disaster, providing effective alerts
covers every corner of the community.
To make it easy for the MDRRMO office to understand how to use the prototype.
To provide the people in the community with appropriate information.
