- The modern trend in poultry production is towards specialization. The farmer
chooses what production area he/she is interested in and specializes in this
particular field.

BREEDING FARM
o Researching or discovering the best combination of genes of
parent stocks that will be the source of commercial chicks for
the poultry producer.
o A Poultry Geneticist is a person who is working on a kind
of parental combinations of the production of an egg type
cross or for the discovery of a good broiler type chicken
strain.
o A Poultry breeding farm where geneticist are concerned of
new discoveries are long range programs. It may take about
a decade before specific genetic lines of parent stocks are
release for commercial utilization.
• The Existing “strains” or probably a
cross of various lines now available to
a commercial poultry raiser is a
product of very long studies by the
geneticist. The breeding of
researchers being work on now will
be available in the future to replace
the kinds we are using today.
• The poultry (chicken) breeders stocks
that are imported to the Philippines
are discovered by geneticists and are
produced only for the purpose for
which they were breed.
• Known genetic lines of males and females are brought into the country,
grown and mated to produce the chicks that we utilized for commercial
production.
• Poultry breeding farms in the Philippines can be likened only to an
“assembly plant” of parts imported abroad. They where also serving as
the multiplier farms.
• The essential segments of poultry breeding farm are the grand parents
and /or parents stocks flocks, hatchery and a distribution system for
selling chicks.
• This field of poultry specification in poultry production, is therefore,
not recommended for just anybody.
EGG FARM
• Egg production is the older scheme of poultry production engaged in
many research.
• Formerly an egg production is also a breeder but recent development
in the industry makes the farmer raise chickens just for table egg
production.
Egg Farming can really split into two phases of operations.
1. can be strictly for raising pullets.
2. Keeping of layers when they are on the stage of egg production
• All female type of chicks are obtained from the reputable hatchery for
this kind of stock. No males are necessary in the flock. The chicks are
brooded, grown to maturity and kept in layer houses.
• The main product is table egg. The hens are kept usually for one year
production & then totally replaced by young set of pullets. The old hens
are sold as culls.
BROILER FARM
Is the most recent specialized field
in the Philippines.
This is the growing of meat–type
chicken essentially for MEAT
PRODUCTION.
Stocks used for this purpose are
so called “broiler type chicks”
Broiler – type chicks are
known for:
• Fast Growth
• Meaty Conformation
• Good feed Conservation
A Broiler raiser depends
On the supply of chicks from a
franchised hatchery in the
category of a breeder farm. Both
female and male chicks are utilized
for growing broilers. However,
Males grow faster than females.
FEED MILLING
INDUSTRY
Mostly poultry raiser are dependent totally for their
feed supply from the feed miller. The set up has been very
successful to the point that if the feed milling industry is
halted, the entire poultry industry will also stop. This
industry has done a very good job in the development and
achievement of the industry as a whole.

IS VERY VITAL TO THE POULTRY INDUSTRY.
WITHOUT THESE SEGMENTS, POULTRY DISEASES
CAN NOT BE CONTROLLED AND PRODUCTION CAN
BE UNECONOMICAL.
The facilities needed to the poultry operation have come to
the point of sophistication that contributes to the economical
production. Feeders, waterers, feed mixer, crates, autonomic
devices to ease labor have been contributing the better poultry
production program at present. The poultry raisers can
depend on such facilities.
This segment of the poultry industry is very important since
without the proper processing and marketing channels of
poultry products, the producers may not be able to dispose of
all there products. Proper marketing is the ultimate area in
order to facilitate more production at profitable levels.
