ACTIVITY DESIGN

I. TITLE: JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT SCI-MATH CULMINATION 2022

II. RATIONALE

In the K-12 curriculum, learners are expected to manifest the characteristics of 21 st


century learners such as having positive interdependence, face-to-face promotive
interaction, individual accountability, interpersonal and small group skills which all cannot
just be applied in a classroom setting, but can be upon the aspect of sports, in everyday
lives, and in different areas. To meet such characteristics, it is deemed necessary to conduct
various school activities. One of the school activities where learners can show their
capability especially in sports is the intramurals activity. It is an annual undertaking that aims
to promote the significance of the aspects focusing on individual’s skills and talents.

The Cogonon Integrated School through the MAPEH Coordinatos and Department,
will be conducting School Intramurals on December 6-7, 2023 with the theme:
____________. The activity will be pursued through face to face interactive activities like
basketball, volleyball, badminton, and the 100 meter dash. These activities generally aimed
to encourage the students to showcase their collaborative efforts that boosted and
developed their self-confidence.

Moreover, the event is a great way to increase student engagement by providing


them an opportunity to interact socially with peers and small groups which foster sense of
belonging, positive mental health, and greater engagement to a non-academic activities.

III. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the activity, the following objectives are targeted to be actualized:

a. promote strong positive interdependence;

b. raise the level of consciousness and participation of the students in different


areas that also improves interpersonal and small group skills; and

c. promotes face-to-face interaction, and individual accountability.

IV. METHODOLOGY

The activity will use interactive face to face competition. MAPEH Coordinators will
assign four colors for the student’s teams. Colors must be blue, red, yellow, and green.
Leaders and members will be given a time for a short meeting to select participants from
their teams to who can play the said games. All competing grade level and participants must

adhere to the general guidelines and the mechanics of each competition. The Sci-Math
Committee will provide a copy of the mechanics and criteria to the advisers. All class
advisers are liable to update and inform their students or participants about the given set of
mechanics and criteria of each competition including the time and venue.

V. EXPECTED PARTICIPANTS

Each grade level from Junior High School Department are expected to have the
following number of participants/entry per competition:

1. Each grade level is entitled to have five (5) participants. Each participant will be given
1/8 sized illustration board with an eraser, chalk, and clean sheets of bond paper to be
used during the Quiz bee proper.

2. The contest is divided into three (3) phases: The Easy, Moderate, and Difficult phase.

3. Questions shall be of Multiple Choice Type for the Easy Questions (20 items) and
Moderate Questions (10 items). NO choices shall be provided to questions for the
Difficult phase (10 items).

4. Each correct answer in every phase has equivalent point/s. 1 point for every correct
answer in Easy question, 2 points for moderate questions, and 5 points for Difficult
questions.

5. At the end of Easy phase, the cumulative score of each participant will be computed
and presented to the audience. The participant who got a score below 10 shall be
eliminated from the contest.

6. At the end of the quiz bee, the participant with highest cumulative score will be
declared the 1st runner up. The next two highest scoring participants will be declared
2nd and 3rd runners up, respectively.

7. Set of concepts and ideas that might come out in the actual day of the competition will
be given to the students 4 days before the said competition.

READING MECHANICS:

1. Questions during the Easy phase will be limited to fifteen (15) seconds per question.
For the moderate phase, it will be limited to thirty (30) seconds per question. For the
Difficult phase it will be limited to sixty (60) seconds per question since the question
may require long computations. Before the question is read, the participants must
raise the piece of chalk.

2. Questions will be read twice by the quizmaster. After the second reading the
quizmaster shall say “GO” and only then the team be allowed to write the answer.
Automatically, timer for each round starts after the signal “GO” given by the
quizmaster.

ANSWERING MECHANICS:

1. Each participant will be given with official writing boards.

2. Answers must be written legibly on the writing boards as instructed. If the question
is a multiple choice, the answer must be written in PRINT BIG LETTERS such as A, B,
C, and D.

3. Only complete answers will merit a credit. Incomplete answers shall be considered
wrong answers for the problem-solving type questions in the Difficult phase. Wrong
spelling is also considered WRONG. When an answer desired for a mathematical
unit/symbol, this must be clearly written as well.

4. The audience must observe silence while the contest is going on. COACHING IS
STRICTLY NOT ALLOWED FROM THE AUDIENCE or CLASS ADVISERS.

5. One point shall be deducted from the total score of the participant for every
violation of any of the mechanics or rules. Any violation will be signaled by a
VIOLATION CALL which will be done, identified and confirmed by the Committee.

SCORING MECHANICS:

TIE BREAKING MECHANICS:

1. In case of a tie at the end of the last phase, a tie breaker will immediately ensue.
2. Three (3) set of questions of any difficult type will be asked. Further questions will be
given until one contestant gains an advantage in score over the other.
3. The first to gain an advantage in score will be declared the victor of the tie and will
merit the corresponding award.

POSTER MAKING

1. Each grade level must have one participant for poster making. The poster must be an
original and actual output of the participant and must illustrate, emphasize or

2. Sketched or patters are NOT allowed to be carried by the participants inside the
contest area.
3. Participants will be given 2 hours to finish their posters.
4. The participants may use the following materials: 1/8 Illustration board, Oil pastel or
crayons, pencil, pentelpen, and eraser.
5. Violations to any of the above-mentioned rules will lead to the disqualification of the
participant.
6. All entries will be judged according to the following criteria:

POSTER-SLOGAN MAKING

1. Each grade level must have one participant for poster-slogan making. The poster and
slogan should revolve around the theme GENESCAPE: “Priming Perspective,
Amplifying Advancements” and Adapting, Engaging and Applying Mathematics in
the New Normal.
2. The slogan should be written in the drawing material or within the poster and the
number of words should not be more than ten (12).
3. Slogan should NOT be written in the drawing material prior to the conduct of the
contest. Sketched or patterns are also NOT allowed to be carried by the participants
inside the area.
4. Participants will be given 2 hours to finish their poster-slogan.
5. The participants may use the following materials: 1/8 Illustration board, Oil pastel or
crayons, pencil, pentelpen, and eraser.
6. Violations to any of the above-mentioned rules will lead to the disqualification of the
participants.
