SERVICE INFORMATION
PRECAUTIONS
Precaution for Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) "AIR BAG" and "SEAT BELT
PRE-TENSIONER" INFOID:0000000005198449

The Supplemental Restraint System such as “AIR BAG” and “SEAT BELT PRE-TENSIONER”, used along
with a front seat belt, helps to reduce the risk or severity of injury to the driver and front passenger for certain
types of collision. Information necessary to service the system safely is included in the “SUPPLEMENTAL
RESTRAINT SYSTEM” and “SEAT BELTS” of this Service Manual.
WARNING:
• To avoid rendering the SRS inoperative, which could increase the risk of personal injury or death in
the event of a collision which would result in air bag inflation, all maintenance must be performed by
an authorized NISSAN/INFINITI dealer.
• Improper maintenance, including incorrect removal and installation of the SRS, can lead to personal
injury caused by unintentional activation of the system. For removal of Spiral Cable and Air Bag
Module, see the “SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM”.
• Do not use electrical test equipment on any circuit related to the SRS unless instructed to in this
Service Manual. SRS wiring harnesses can be identified by yellow and/or orange harnesses or har-
ness connectors.
PRECAUTIONS WHEN USING POWER TOOLS (AIR OR ELECTRIC) AND HAMMERS
WARNING:
• When working near the Air Bag Diagnosis Sensor Unit or other Air Bag System sensors with the
ignition ON or engine running, DO NOT use air or electric power tools or strike near the sensor(s)
with a hammer. Heavy vibration could activate the sensor(s) and deploy the air bag(s), possibly
causing serious injury.
• When using air or electric power tools or hammers, always switch the ignition OFF, disconnect the
battery, and wait at least 3 minutes before performing any service.

CHECKING RADIATOR SYSTEM FOR LEAKAGE

• To check for leakage of cooling system, apply pressure to the reservoir tank with the radiator cap tester F
(commercial service tool) and the radiator cap tester adapter [SST: EG17650301].
WARNING:
Never remove reservoir tank cap and/or radiator cap when engine is hot. Serious burns could occur G
from high pressure engine coolant escaping from reservoir tank and/or radiator.
CAUTION:
• Never install radiator cap tester (commercial service tool) and the radiator cap tester adapter [SST: H
EG17650301] to radiator.
• Higher test pressure than specified may cause cooling system damage.
I
Testing pressure:
157 kPa (1.57 bar, 1.6 kg/cm2, 23 psi)
NOTE: J
In a case that engine coolant decreases, replenish radiator and reservoir tank with engine coolant.
• If anything is found, repair or replace damaged parts.
Changing Engine Coolant INFOID:0000000004943438
K

WARNING:
• To avoid being scalded, never change engine coolant when engine is hot. L
• Wrap a thick cloth around cap and carefully remove cap. First, turn cap a quarter of a turn to release
built-up pressure. Then turn cap all the way.
• Be careful not to allow engine coolant to contact drive belts. M
DRAINING ENGINE COOLANT
1. Remove drain plug from the bottom of radiator, and then remove
radiator cap. N

JSKIA1217ZZ

CO-7
ENGINE COOLANT
< SERVICE INFORMATION > [ZD]
2. Open cylinder block drain plug. Refer to EM-90.
3. Remove reservoir tank, drain engine coolant, then clean reser-
voir tank.
4. Check drained engine coolant for contaminants such as rust,
corrosion or discoloration.
If contaminated, flush engine cooling system. Refer to "FLUSH-
ING COOLING SYSTEM".

MBIB9105E

REFILLING ENGINE COOLANT

1. Install reservoir tank and radiator drain plug.
• If water drain plug on cylinder block is removed, close and tighten it. Refer to EM-90, "Disassem-
bly and Assembly".
2. Check that each hose clamp is firmly tightened.
3. Fill radiator and reservoir tank to the specified level.
• Pour engine coolant through engine coolant filler neck
slowly of less than 2 (1-3/4 lmp qt) a minute to allow air
in system to escape.
• Use Genuine NISSAN Engine Coolant or an equivalent in
its quality. Refer to MA-9.

• When engine coolant overflows air relief hole, install air relief
plug and install the radiator cap.

4. Start engine and warm it up until it reaches normal operating temperature (10 min maximum).
• If engine coolant overflows radiator filler hole, install radiator cap.
5. Keep racing at 2,000 - 2,500 rpm and fill with through reservoir tank filler until water level stabilize on
MAX. Close reservoir tank cap and continue warm up until thermostat is opened (check the radiator
hose).
CAUTION:
Watch engine coolant temperature gauge so as not to overheat the engine.
6. Keep racing at 2,000 - 2,500 rpm and fill with through reservoir tank filler until water level stabilize on
MAX. Close reservoir tank cap and continue warm up until thermostat is opened (check the radiator
hose). At this time, the water temperature must not rise excessively.
7. Stop the engine and cool down to less than approximately 50° (122°F).
8. Fill with reservoir tank to MAX level line with engine coolant.
9. If the liquid level lowered, repeat steps 4 through 8 checking that water level on reservoir tank is stabilized
on MAX.
10. Check cooling system for leakage with engine running.

CO-8
ENGINE COOLANT
< SERVICE INFORMATION > [ZD]
11. Warm up engine, and check for sound of engine coolant flow while running engine from idle up to 3,000
rpm with heater temperature controller set at several position between COOL and WARM. A
• Sound may be noticeable at heater unit.
12. Repeat step 11 three times.
13. If sound is heard, bleed air from cooling system by repeating steps 3 through 6 until engine coolant level CO
no longer drops.
FLUSHING COOLING SYSTEM
C
1. Fill radiator with water until water spills from the air relief hole, then close air relief plug. Fill radiator and
reservoir tank with water and reinstall radiator cap and reservoir tank cap.
2. Run engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
D
3. Rev engine two or three times under no-load.
4. Stop engine and wait until it cools down.
5. Drain water from the system. Refer to "DRAINING ENGINE COOLANT". E
6. Repeat steps 1 through 5 until clear water begins to drain from radiator.
