4. Procedures
4.1 Introductory Activity The students will pick a color in the big box. The colors are red, blue and yellow. The students will be grouped
3 minutes according to the color they picked. The group will yell the color of their team after forming a vertical line.
4.2 Activity With the same groupings, each group will be given the colored boxes containing word puzzles in which they will
form. The first team to form the puzzle will make a “knock knock” of the word in the puzzle.
10 minutes Blue- “hypotenuse” Red- “shorter leg” Yellow- “longer leg”
4.3 Analysis Guide Questions:

1. What are hypotenuse, shorter leg and longer leg?

5 minutes 2. What kind of triangle which has hypotenuse?

4.4 Abstraction Pythagorean Theorem

-the square of the length of the hypotenuse of a right triangle is equal to the sum of the squares of the lengths of
the other two sides.
If a=shorter leg; b=the longer leg ;and c= the hypotenuse, then a²+b²=c².
Example:
a=3; b=4 ;c=5
a²+b²=c²
15
3²+4²=5²
9+16=25
25=25

How will you solve for the length of the shorter leg given the longer leg and the hypotenuse?
4.5 Application The students will be grouped into 5. Each group will be given 3 right triangles and they will solve for what is
asked in each triangle using Pythagorean Theorem. Each group will choose a representative to explain their
answer.
