INTRODUCTION
Special Maths Contest (SMC) is an initiative of Special Maths Academy(SMA),
an olympiad training organization that trains young minds to be competitive
in the world's toughest math contests. The Special Maths Contest is organized
to identify and reward these young minds.
ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible to participate in the Special Maths Contest, a participant must:
● Be between 12 and 18 years old
● Not be enrolled in a university or higher education system.
Any participant that meets the two above conditions is eligible to compete in
the Special Maths Contest.

It is important to note that Special Maths Academy, as the organizer of the
contest, may require a candidate to provide documents to verify that a
candidate has met all the eligibility requirements. In cases where doubts
arise, SMA reserves the right to disqualify such a participant.
REGISTRATION GUIDELINES
Participation in the second edition of the Special Maths Contest is free. To
register, create an account on the Special Maths Contest portal
(https://www.specialmathscontest.com/portal). Only registered participants
will be able to participate in the contest.

FORMAT OF THE CONTEST
The SMC is entirely a virtual event. Participants are expected to take part in
the contest on a computer with a stable internet connection. The SMC shall
consist of 2 rounds:
1. Round 1:
Round 1 will take place on Saturday, 28th October 2023. The exam will consist
of 25 multiple choice questions to be completed in 2 hours. The questions
shall be drawn from the pre-university syllabus and extensively cover topics in
Algebra, Number Theory, Geometry, and Combinatorics. Students can log into
their portal at any time on Saturday, 28th October to take the test.
2. Round 2:
We will invite the top 24 contestants and every other contestant who scores
higher than 75% in the first round to participate in the second round. The
second round will be on 25th November 2023. The second round consists of 4
Olympiad essay problems to be solved in 5 hours. The exam will be proctored
over a Zoom call. Participants are to scan their handwritten solutions and

send them to an email address that we shall provide. We recommend using
mobile apps like Camscanner or Microsoft lens for scanning solutions.
PRIZES
We shall award three grand prizes to the three absolute winners of the
contest. The grand prizes are as follows:
1. 1st Prize - 150 dollars
2. 2nd Prize - 100 dollars
3. 3rd Prize - 50 dollars
The best performing student from Nigeria will receive a 50 US Dollar prize.
The special prize for the best performing student from Nigeria will not be
given if that student is also the overall first position. All students in Nigeria
who score over 50% in the contest will be admitted into our mentorship
program.
We shall also award medal certificates to the top participants in the final
round. Participants in the top half of the participants in the final round will

receive either a Gold, Silver, or Bronze medal certificate. The Gold, Silver, and
Bronze medal certificates will be distributed in a ratio of approximately 1:2:3.
All other final round participants shall receive participants certificates of
excellence.
CONCLUSION
We encourage all prospective participants to adhere to the guidelines stated
in this documentation and desist from any activities which may render
his/her participation invalid. Participants should note that in cases where
irregularities are suspected to occur, we shall carry out inquiries and disqualify
all those found wanting. Any further updates will be communicated
accordingly. We wish all participants the best and look forward to crowning
the next math champions.
