Muscles

The deltoid muscle originates on the lateral third of the clavicle, acromion of the scapula, and spine of the scapula. It inserts on the deltoid tuberosity of the humerus. The deltoid is innervated by the axillary nerve (C5-C6) and functions to abduct, flex, medially rotate, horizontally adduct, extend, and laterally rotate the arm.
