PRESENTATION AND ANALYSIS
Animal Shelter is an institution that offers refuge and protection to homeless animals or those
rescued from currently until they receive care and are made available for adoption. These shelters
serve as temporary homes for animals, shielding them from various risks they might encounter. The
characteristics of Animal Shelters, including size, goals, capacity, and the manner in which they tend
to the animals in their custody, can vary significantly.
Dog parks provide a space for dogs and their owners to interact and build connections,
participating in social activities within these parks can contribute to more favorable feelings towards
the community, enriching the overall neighborhood atmosphere and social bonds. Furthermore, dog
parks offer benefits such as a reduction in dog aggressiveness, resulting in better-behaved and more
controlled dogs.
I. SITE ANALYSIS
The selected project site is in Barangay Sta.Maria, Zamboanga City, along Centro Pastoral
Road Opening, spans approximately 14,000sqm and is situated in the city’s commercial zone, the
urban setting is surrounded by man-made structures.

Figure 2. Vicinity Map
The site is located along the Centro Pastoral Road in between Governor Ramos Avenue and Camino
Nuevo. The site is under the territory of Barangay Sta. Maria, Zamboanga City.

The main geologic composition of the site and its vicinity is Recent Alluvium.
Figure 9. Slope Map
The site and its vicinity has a fairly flat surface (0-8%).
Figure 10. Soil Map
The composition of the soil is primarily Louisiana clay loam, which is the best soil type for
construction due to its ideal combination of silt, sand, and clay.
Figure 11. Site Analysis
Shown in the illustration above is the site analysis that the proponents have observed, such as the sun
path, prevailing winds, and noise.
● Sun Path: The sun rises in the east, culminates in the south while moving to the right, and sets
in the west.
● Prevailing Winds: With an area of approximately 14,000 sqm with a fairly flat surface and no
existing structure, natural ventilation is an advantage for the proposed structure.
● Noise: Since it is situated under the city's commercial zone and also surrounded by privately
owned residential buildings, noise pollution at the existing site is fairly prevalent.
Despite the seismic risk, the chosen site is selected with a focus on public accessibility. Data
analysis indicates geographic compatibility, with minimal challenges in terms of accessibility. This
suggests that the location is well-suited for the intended project, balancing geological considerations
with practical accessibility for the public.

CONCLUSION
Zamboanga City faces a significant problem of a large population of roaming animals,
particularly dogs, impacting public health and the environment. Researchers propose a cost-effective
design strategy to revamp dog shelters, making them more self-sufficient and addressing funding
challenges to enhance living conditions for dogs. Ultimately, their initiative aims to contribute to
alleviating the stray dog crisis in the country. The crucial role of animal shelters is to address the
problem of stray dog overpopulation by offering temporary housing and necessities to prevent
potential harm to human society.
This research investigates the economic challenges faced by animal shelters and rescue
centers in Zamboanga City and also examines the negative impact of stray dogs on the community
and explores the connection between animal shelters and rescue centers in alleviating the crisis.
Furthermore, the research seeks to enhance the quality of services provided by dog shelters by
identifying and resolving key issues that hinders their improvement.
The researchers plan to create a series of interview questions for discussions with
organizations and offices focused on animal welfare. Additionally, they will develop online survey
materials to collect data from the selected respondents.
