ORA chemical reaction is a representation of chemical change in terms of symbols and formul
of reactants and products. There are various types of chemical reactions like combination,
decomposition, displacement, double displacement, oxidation, and reduction reactions.
Reactions in which heat is released along with the formation of products are called
‘xothermic chemical reactions. All combustion reactions are exothermic reactions

Question no. 37 to 39 are case-based/data -based questions with 2 to 3 short sub-
parts. Internal choice is provided in one of these sub-parts.
37. Oxidation is the process of gaining of oxygen, or losing of hydrogen. Reduction is the
process of losing of oxygen or gaining of hydrogen. The substance which undergoes
oxidation is the reducing agent while the substance which undergoes reduction is known
as the oxidising agent. Oxidation and reduction always take place together and these type
of reactions are known as redox reactions. Some of the examples of redox reactions are
given below:

Decomposition reactions are usually endothermic in nature. Give one decomposition
reaction which is exothermic reaction.
38. Arteries are the vessels which carry blood away from the heart to various organs of the
7clastic walls. Veins collect the blood from different organs and bring it back to the heart.
They do not need thick walls because the blood is no longer under pressure, instead they
have valves that ensure that the blood flows only in one direction. On reaching an organ
or tissue, the artery divides into smaller and smaller vessels to bring the blood in contact,
with all the individual cells. The smallest vessels have walls which are one-cell thick and
are called capillaries. Exchange of material between the blood and surrounding cells takes
place across this thin wall. The capillaries then join together to form veins that convey the
blood away from the organ or tissue.
1. What is the importance of thin walls of blood capillaries?
(@) Thin walls of blood capillaries provide them protection.
PY Exchange of materials between the blood and surrounding cells take place across the
thin walls of blood capillaries,
(©) Thin walls of blood capillaries help on smooth flow of blood.
(@) All of the above.
2. What is the function of valves in veins?
~(@) Valves ensure the unidirectional flow of blood.
(b) Valves increase the oxygen carrying capacity of the blood.
(©) Valves protect the veins from outer shocks.
(@) Valves withstand the high pressure of blood in veins.
3. Which blood vessels have high blood pressure and what do they have to withstand this
high
Pressure?
(@) Both arteries and veins have same pressure of blood and they are thick - walled vessels.
\(by Arteries have high blood pressure and they have elastic and thick walls to withstand this
high pressure.
(@ None of the above.
4.What is the function of arteries?
(a) Arteries have high blood pressure.
(b) Arteries are present in the body of human beings.
(©) Arteries are thicker than veins.
(c) Veins have high blood pressure and they have to valves to withstand this high pressure.
(d) Arteries are the blood vessels which carry blood away from the heart to various organs
of the body.

39. Answer question numbers (i) ~ (iv) on the basis of your understanding of the following
paragraph and the related studied concepts.
The ciliary muscles of the eye control the curvature of the lens in the eye and hence can
alter the effective focal length of the system. When the muscles are fully relaxed, the
focal length is maximum, When the muscles are strained the curvature of the lens
increases (that means radius of curvature decreases) and focal length decreases. For a
clear vision the image must be on the retina. The image distance is therefore fixed for
aclear vision and it equals the distance of retina from eye-lens, It is about 2.5 cm for a
rown-up person. A person can theoretically have clear vision of objects situated at any
large distance from the eye. The smallest distance at which a person can clearly see is
related to minimum possible focal length, The ciliary muscles are most strained in this
Position. For an average grown-up person minimum distance of object should be around
25 cm. A person suffering for eye defects uses spectacles (Eye glass). The function of
lens of spectacles is to form the image of the objects within the range in which person
can see Clearly. The image of the spectacle-lens becomes object for eye-lens and whose
image is formed on retina(The number of spectacle-lens used for the remedy of eye
defect is decided by the power of the lens required and the number of spectacle-lens is
equal to the numerical value of the power of lens with sigh. For example power of lens
Tequired is +3D (converging lens of focal length 100/3 cm) then number of lens will be
+3.For all the calculations required you can use the lens formula and lens maker’s
formula. Assumethat the eye lens is equiconvex lens, Neglect the distance between eye
lens and the spectacle lens.
