Assessment Criteria for the Log Book
Students are required to keep a professional engineering log book of their projects and activities while on
work placement. Log books need to be signed at once at the end of your work placement by your industry
supervisor before submitting for assessment.
General Expectations
Weekly: Minimum of 1 page of your original writing pages of thoughtful entries per week in support of
a quality design process. Pictures, drawings, datasheets etc… are additional.
• Log of planning, communications, team meetings and lecture notes
• Investigation plans, experiment plans, testing plans, with results and discussion/conclusions
• Project learning and product development
• Review of individual/team/product performance
• Organisation/format for easy re-reading/re-use

Industry Expectations
• Record the date on each page
• Label each entry and record this in a table of contents (reserve afew pages at the start if a formal
Table of Contents is not supplied)
• Avoid backfilling. If you realise later that you left something out, or just want to summarise
something, go ahead and write it in, noting that it’s after-the-fact.
• Include all workplace contributions...good and bad:
