Impact of marijuana in the Philippines if it’s legal

Introduction:
Marijuana also known as cannabis is a psychoactive drug that comes from the cannabis plant. It
has been used for a variety of purposes, including recreational and medicinal, for centuries. In recent
years, the debate surrounding marijuana has intensified, with discussions about legalization, regulation,
and its potential impact on society, the economy, and public health.

Body:
According to REPUBLIC ACT NO. 9165 June 7, 2002 AN ACT INSTITUTING THE
COMPREHENSIVE DANGEROUS DRUGS ACT OF 2002, REPEALING REPUBLIC ACT NO. 6425,
OTHER WISE KNOWN AS THE DANGEROUS DRUGS ACT OF 1972 AS AMENDED, PROVIDING
FUNDS THEREFOR, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. Any dangerous drug into the body of any person,
with or without his/her knowledge, by injection, inhalation, ingestion or other means, or of committing
any act of indispensable assistance to a person in administering a dangerous drug to himself/herself unless
administered by a duly licensed practitioner for purposes of medication. The immediate effects of
marijuana use include rapid heartbeat, dizziness, lack of coordination of different parts of the body, often
followed by extreme sadness or drowsiness. Other users experience panic attacks or anxiety. The potential
legalization of marijuana in the Philippines brings several negative effects that should be carefully
considered. Risk to public health, the use of marijuana can cause various health risks. Based on the study
of experts, excessive use of marijuana can lead to addiction and dependency, impair mental function, and
have a negative effect on mental health. Legalization could lead to increased accessibility and potentially
higher rates of marijuana use that would further exacerbate these health risks. Additionally, marijuana
smoke contains many of the same harmful chemicals as tobacco smoke, raising concerns about
respiratory health and other related complications, and i think if it is illegal in the Philippines many
filipinos will misuse it.

Conclusion:
The potential legalization of marijuana in the Philippines carries several negative impacts that
must be carefully considered. From a public health perspective, marijuana use can pose various risks,
particularly when consumed in excessive quantities or by vulnerable populations such as adolescents and
individuals with preexisting mental health conditions. Legalization could lead to increased accessibility
and potentially higher rates of cannabis use, resulting in adverse health consequences, including
addiction, impaired cognitive function, and potential links to mental health disorders.

Furthermore, legalizing marijuana may also have adverse social implications. There is a risk of
increased substance abuse, potentially leading to disruptions in family structures, decreased work
productivity, and strain on healthcare systems. Moreover, the availability and commercialization of
marijuana products might lead to negative societal perceptions.
