GUROFLEX - Installation Instructions
Potting Compound
General
GUROFLEX MV is a poured insulating compound for use in cable termination enclosures with rated voltage up to 36 kV.
The compound is suitable for use with polymeric cables fitted with a suitable form of termination to control electrical stress.
Preparation
1) The enclosure to be filled must be dry and clean. Any non-GUROFLEX filling compounds need to be completely
removed. The presence of a small amount of potting residue, only if previously potted with GUROFLEX MV, will not effect
the curing or performance of GUROFLEX MV.
2) If compound removal is anticipated, (for example to change the cable), the internal housing may be coated with a release
agent prior to filling. The recommended material is petroleum jelly (Vaseline). Using a gloved hand or other appropriate
method, liberally apply petroleum jelly to the internal surfaces of the enclosure. Do not coat the bushings, cables,
or insulator tubes; ensure all parts are thoroughly clean and dry prior to filling. “Spray On” Vaseline may also be
used.
3) Exposed components of cables within the enclosure, such as conductors, connectors or screen wires, do not need
covering or sealing.
Mixing and Pouring
4) GUROFLEX MV carries no hazard classification, but it is recommended to wear hand and eye protection during
mixing and pouring.
5) For 2 Chamber Bag mixing: Mix component A & B together for approximately (3-4 minutes). Continue mixing
until uniformly coloured.
6) Pour the mixed compound into the enclosure without delay, and continue with successive mixes to fill the
enclosure in one operation. Do not interrupt the mixing and pouring process. Note: It is not necessary to fill body
completlely. However, it is necessary that the insulator tubes are completely filled. There is a benefit to filling a larger
section of the body - moisture protection. It is possible for moisture to develop inside the aluminum body if the volume of air
inside is significant. Compound removes the air and limits condensation. It is a secondary barrier for moisture to access
the conductive elements if a seal were to be compromised. Fill body maximum 1 inch from the top to allow for expansion.
7) Residual compound is non-hazardous waste and should be disposed of appropriately and in line with local regulations.
SET UP TIME: 3-4 hours
SHELF LIFE: 2 years for un-activated material
Store between +40°C and -20°C

POTTING COMPOUND INSTALLATION
1. After terminating the cable and reassembling the coupler arrange
the coupler so as to expose the rear body entrance.
2. Fill the coupler through the exposed
hole in the rear body.
3. Once the body is filled to the correct depth fully install all the
entrance fitting components, tightening the hardware.
4. Place the coupler as close to
vertical as possible, this will ensure the
compound fully fills the phase insulator
tubes.
We make the connection.
