The document discusses how fluorescein dye has many uses in laboratories and everyday life as a bright green fluorescent tag for labeling antibodies and identifying blood clots, and how green chemistry aims to create fluorescein through reactions that minimize waste and use less harmful solvents. It then provides details of an experiment where resorcinol and phthalic anhydride were reacted using sulfuric acid with heat to produce fluorescein, which was then purified by adding and stirring with acetone.

Self Portrait Essay Example

Crafting a self-portrait essay presents a unique challenge as it requires introspection, self-awareness,

and a nuanced understanding of one's identity. The difficulty lies not only in narrating personal
experiences but also in articulating them in a cohesive and engaging manner. It demands a delicate
balance between self-reflection and objectivity, exploring both strengths and weaknesses without
veering into self-indulgence or self-criticism.

Expressing oneself authentically while maintaining a sense of humility can be intricate. The process
involves delving into one's past, dissecting life events, and unraveling the threads that have shaped
personal growth. Additionally, finding the right words to encapsulate emotions, aspirations, and
values can be challenging. It's akin to navigating a maze of thoughts and memories, carefully
selecting those that contribute meaningfully to the self-portrait.

Moreover, the essay necessitates a keen awareness of the audience, ensuring that the narrative
remains relatable and resonant. Balancing vulnerability with a well-crafted narrative structure adds
another layer of complexity. Striking this balance is crucial to create a piece that is not only personal
but also universally appealing.

In essence, writing a self-portrait essay demands more than just writing skills; it requires a deep dive
into one's own psyche, an ability to discern significant moments, and the capacity to convey them in
a way that captivates and enlightens the reader. It's a challenge that beckons writers to navigate the
intricate terrain of self-discovery and expression.

Great Expectations By Charles Dickens
Commonly, a novel is either a plot driven novel, a character driven novel, or a mix of the
two. In order for a novel to be character driven, it must revolve more around the characters
individual thoughts, feelings, and inner struggles, rather than around the quest of the
story. Great Expectations, by Charles Dickens, is a characterdriven novel. While the story
does have a plot, it is not contingent upon that plot, but rather is reliant upon its
characters and their natures. This is evident from the beginning of the novel. From the
opening of the novel, it is clear that it is character driven. It opens with an introduction
to the main protagonist, Pip, who is a complex character that faces much internal
conflict during his development. The reader learns of Pip s past and present conditions
as well as his internal struggle. Pip best describes it later as, Scattered wits take a long
time picking up, and often, before I had got them well together, they would be dispersed
in all directions by one stray thought,... (Dickens 103). It is common for character driven
novels to open in such a way where character description comes before plot description.
This implies to the reader that the characters are foundational ideas behind the story.
Dickens created many characters, and the fact that they are all highly developed indicates
character drive. The lives of the different individuals are very intertwined, so that their
interactions impact their character development. As Pip
The Affects Of Candles Effects On People s Lives
Candles have been present for over five thousand years. Over time candles have
advanced into objects that provide individuals with both a source of light and heat.
Although the use of candles have begun to decrease, they still have an affect on the
lives of people. According to the National Candle Association, seven out of ten candles
are used in homes and result in an increase in the amount of fires related to candles. The
Consumer Product Safety Commission estimated that 12,800 fires caused by candles
resulted in 170 deaths and 1200 injuries (Hamins, Bundy, Dillon, 2005). Candles can be
made using many different types of waxes. The most common waxthat is used in the
candleproduction industry is paraffin, a petroleum based wax. Paraffin is... Show more

The amount of uncertainty for the net heat of combustion was calculated to be ±0.3 kJ
/g with the net amount being 43.3 kJ/g. The average effective heat of combustion
found in candles was found from incident heat flux exposures of 10 40 kW/m2 using
the cone calorimeter and was found to be insensitive to the heat flux. The amount of
released heat ranged from 800 to 4150 kW/m2 (Hamins et.al, 2005). The experimental
groups produced results similar to the control group. The results of the study showed that
the combustion process was almost completed during the time of experimentation. It
was observed during the experimentation the candle did not emit any visible soot from
the flame. The mass burning rate, candle regression rate, and flame height help
characterize the burning behavior of candles. During the experimentation, the candle
burned for 12 to 15 minutes in order for a steady burning behavior. When the candle
flame exhibited a steady burn, the the base of the flame also exhibited consistency with
the top of the candle within a range of 1 2 mm. The average flame height was measured
to be 42±1
My Spiritual Autobiography Of My Life
Spiritual Autobiography
I often hear people say I knew I was called to preach the gospel or ministry is in my
blood. For many years, even into adulthood, I thought ministry was only about preaching.
I did not understand the depth of ministry until I became intimate with God. I realize
that those who said they were called to preach are only seeking out a job because true
ministry is a lifestyle. My spiritual journey began in early childhood. However, unlike
many others who grew up as pastor kids, the long boring years I spent in church
services deterred me from wanting to go into ministry. Even into adulthood, I went to
church but that is all I wanted to do. I wanted to go to service, listen to the pastor, give
my offering, say amen then go home and proceed with the rest of my life. In fact, this
cycle and my view about doing ministry continued until my late 20s. As a seminarian
looking back on my childhood, I discovered my family s church habits were the norm
for people at that time. My grandmother did not believe women should to wear pants
because they were things that pertain to a man (Deuteronomy 22:5) and the skirt should
always be a modest length. I could not see it at that time, but, unknowingly, while I was
grumbling and complaining about my clothes and the time we spent in church, the other
believers were instilling biblical values in me that would manifest later in life. My
relationship with God between ages 18 and 26 is similar to the people in the last
The Theory Of Social Construction
A paradigm is a set of beliefs or assumptions that create the reality for a group. The
values, moras, and habits, all of which are socially constructed, create the reality for the
group. The theory of social construction is a theory that knowledge is constructed by
humans for human use. We communicate using rhetoric, allowing others to see into
those socially constructed ideas or paradigms. Rhetoric is the ability to ascertain and
analyze, in any given context, the available means of persuasion. Persuasion is
necessary to convince the audience of one s paradigms. The play, Angels In America, by
Tony Kushner, focuses on two relationships that interconnect throughout the entire play.
Kushner informs the reader of a typical dismal life of someone with AIDS during the
Reagan and Bush eras. During this desperate time, self interest overtakes everything
else, allowing the power dynamics to become even more clear and powerful. This
hierarchy is socially constructed, but sets the reality for the unfortunate, marginalized
lives of most of those contracted with AIDS. Through the writing technique, ASAAP, I
will establish the act, scene, agent, agency, and purpose for each example. This fully
explains each act literally and figuratively, so one is able to fully comprehend the
meaning behind each act. Kushner displays the battle between liberals and
conservatives, not only politically, but also personally. It is simple to see the power
dynamics in Act III, Scene II when Roy scores
Fluorescein Dye Lab Report
Fluorescein dye has been used for a very long time and it serves many purposes within
the lab and in everyday life. As a product fluorescein appears to be a brownish orange
powder solid that appears to be bright, neon green under a UV lamp. Fluorescein,
Yellow No.7 dye, is used as a color addictive to food, medications, and beauty
products.2 It is also used as a fluorescent tag for labeling antibodies that will be

Resorcinol (153mg) and phthalic anhydride (100mg) were added to a large test tube
and placed below sand level. 3 drops of 8M sulfuric acid were added to test tube and
reaction was monitored for 30 minutes ensuring that temperature of sand bath
remained between 180°C 200°C. After 30 minutes, solution was cooled to room
temperature. Acetone (5mL) was added and the solution was stirred for 10 minutes.
Acetone (10mL) was added once again and stirred until solid dissolved. Reaction
progress was monitored by TLC (80% ethyl acetate/20% hexanes) and after stirring was
complete the solvent was evaporated using a stream of nitrogen. Residue was purified
via column chromatography (100% ethyl acetate). Twelve 10mL fractions were collected
and monitored by TLC (1 8 100% ethyl acetate, 9 12 50% ethyl acetate/50% hexanes).
Fractions (1 8) that contained the fluorescein product were combined. Solvent was
evaporated to yield brownish orange powder solid (.170g, 77.3%); (mp: 310°C 313°C );

The Note On The Banking Crisis
The Banking Crisis The Banking Crisis, 2010
Although there are multiple opinions on the causes of the banking crisis, there is one
thing on which there is general agreement. If banking were still practiced as it was by
George Bailey in the movie It s a Wonderful Life, the crisis would not have happened.

To understand why the crisis occurred, it is useful to understand the chain of events that
contributed to it and the role each played. This chain transformed the slightly stodgy,
conservative banks of George Bailey s day to the high stakes world of Wall Street, where
large fortunes could be made with financial innovation.

The first step in the chain dates back to 1938, when the Federal National Mortgage
Association (Fannie Mae) was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The act encouraged banks to lend to low and moderate income neighborhoods. While
this was an admirable goal, some believe that to meet quotas established by this act,
banks were forced to engage in imprudent lending. In the 1980s, coming off a recession,
Congress enacted several laws designed to promote free enterprise by reducing
regulations. One of these laws was the Alternative Mortgage Transaction Parity Act of
1982, an act that permitted the creation of adjustable rate mortgages, balloon mortgages,
and negative amortization mortgages. These would be the types of mortgages that would
create what became the subprime crisis, as buyers who did not qualify for standard
mortgages, at prime interest rates, would be attracted to these higher interest rate
mortgages and eventually default on them.

The Tax Reform Act of 1986 eliminated the tax deduction for interest paid on credit cards,
but retained the deduction for interest on mortgages. This act made home equity loans
highly attractive to many consumers. Believing that their homes would continue to rise
in value, homeowners took out home equity loans to finance such purchases as cars and
home improvement, increasing the amount of debt owed on their homes and leading to
an unhealthy amount of personal debt in the financial system. In 1970, debt was 60
percent of domestic personal income. Debt increased to 134 percent of domestic
personal income by mid 2008.
