pitch evaluation
slide 1 - I made sure to make it clear that it was a working title as it will almost
deffinately change. I also remembered to say it was the title of my animation
since when I practiced with abi she said I didn’t actually mention my film was
animated until around 3 minutes in.
slide 3 - I think I sped through this slide a bit but I think I covered everything. I
explained a little messily that 100 years before the film is set the story of
goldilocks was actually real and when goldilocks dissapeared it took the
perfect magic with her. It meant nothing in the land was perfect, all food was
too hot or too cold, no beds are comfortable etc. Then fast forward 100 years to
the main characters. They decide to set out on a mission to find the
prophasised porridge bowl which is said to bring back
slide 4 - I only specifically pointed out poppy from trolls as an example for the
main guy and archimedies from sword in the stone (but I mentioned that the

CMP 1
others are there for inspiration and my research may show that other duo
tropes are better) - did I say this bit in the offical one? if not then I’ll say I forgot
to say that but i had planned it in my practise.
slide 5 - I only mentioned the worm from labyrinth as thats where the idea grew
from but when I said the characters could help or hinder the journey i pointed at
the sugar pot and reception women.

orion and the dark

orion voice over is like his stream of thoughts

the set feels like a 3d drawing - look into the design

realllyyyyy long establishing scene, more like establishing section…

it did do the trick to fully set up the film and give ample context. also
introduced the main character, orion perfectly. In a beginning middle
end structure the section before the title card is like the beginning.
when dark arrvies the ‘action’ begins.

Character design - dark is physically big and brooding but his

personality is sensitive and caring. Orion is a weedy little kid but has
very mature and intellectual speech/vocab/way of talking and
thinking.

STORY WITHIN A STORY - adult Orion is telling a story about what

happened to him as a child. like in ‘in the heights’.

CMP 2
the birds eye shot of the countryside at 00:22:00 is a cool art style.

when quiet was telling off dark for bringing the kid around 00:31:00
and she said all this important info then dark goes.. uhhh didn’t
understand anything. - use as a joke, one extra character explains a
complicated but correct way of getting to the place but main
character is like um… nahhhhhh

00:40:20 ish - background to them flying away from open air

cinema

scene at 00:53:00 for design.

1:17:00 - bit of a turn of events, storyline gets wack and seems like a
massive change from the rest of the film. but then it’s explained that
its another story layer of orions grandson is finishing the story. It did
feel like the ending is very digressed from the beginning and the
story the film was telling at the start didn’t fit with the story that was
being shown at the end. It went from a story about orion
overcoming his fears with the help of the entity ‘Dark’ to a story
about accepting the darkness to generational storytelling that
wasn’t even relevant to the opening concept. he gets over his fears
in the credits drawings but it still doesn’t feel like a conclusion.

madagascar

the main character, alex, is still likeable despite obvious flaws like
being egotistical.

over the top dramaticness makes it funnier

everything is exaggerated, movements, expressions, speech

everything.

lots of frenzied dumbness or judt the character’s being generally

stupid to move the plot along or make jokes.

the film has lots of sound effects that in real life wouldn’t actually
happen such as at around 1hr in marty and alex crash into each
other running in the fields and the crashing sound is more like a car
crash with lots of things falling, typical to a cartoon crash foley
sound.

‘what a wonderful world’ scene witht he music sort of juxtaposing

the vibe o fthe scene - the song is all about the world being great

CMP 3
while the characters are watching everything eat each other and
alex is having a ‘painful’ identity crisis.

the reselution wasn’t solving the original main problem, them getting
back to new york but a deeper issue that was there from the
begining which was alex and marty’s friendship.

penguins of Madagascar

wallace and gromit

boxtrolls

early man

road to eldorado

chicken run

mr bean

muppets

muppet treasure island

opens straight into action which turns out to be a character

telling a story

very witty, small remarks etc

Blind Pew from the 3rd scene - stupidly french and very
exaggerated accent. makes the scary character funny but still a
bad guy. bumbling bafoon energy

13:16 - rizzo says “he died! it supposed to be a kids movie’.

muppet movies often do this where they break the forth wall a
little and acknowledge they are in a film.

rizzo finds the bullets in a bag labelled ‘bullets’ in big letters.

examples of visual gags. for example a knight character is trying
to find a map but then they turn around and behind them is a
shop with a massive sign saying ‘Michael's maps for every
occasion - especially quests’

I like the concept of the antagonist befriending the main

characters to betray them in the end as they were only using the
mains to get what they needed. also like in the muppet movie

CMP 4
with domonic badguy where his name is super obious but the
muppets are so naive and trusting that they believe the dodgy
pronounciation.

funny names like the leader of the boars ‘Spa’am’.

planning
think about light entering a building through windows and doors when
lighting sets.

like in orion the dark and muppet treasure island open with an ‘action
scene’ that turns out to be a character (maybe the main one) is telling a
story.

almost all adventure stories have an antagonist. some can be more

metaphorical like the main character’s short-comings but in most typical
kids movie cases there is a literal bad guy in the way of the main goal.
maybe have an evil character trying to find the magic bowl for their own evil
uses. gargamel type - bad guy but not traditional evil, kind of stupid or
always loosing.

to avoid having to make loads of characters have a narrator that can talk to
the characters

have some obviously evil looking character ‘help’ them get to the island/
hes on the island and helps navigate like ‘long John Silver’, ‘Domonic
badguy’ and also try to kill/trap them like the wolf from sword in the stone.

side character has a rizzo the rat type of energy

plot

Look at Road to Eldorado

Muppets for the traveling via map

AN ABSOLUTE MAXIMUM OF 5 LOCATIONS

Message could be use imagination

Max 10fps to save time, minimum 6fps

They live in a world where childhood fairytales are myths like greek
mythology is to us. But now no one believes in the magic. Maybe just

CMP 5
goldilocks is the myth and they decided to go and find the mythical
portage bowl so that the world thinks they are heroes?

Trip to Panama: comes home to a better place but its still the same, new
perspective. —— this inspired to look at Strange World.

take lots of inspo from the owl in sword in the stone for a
grumpy/sarcastic character

look at luca for kids as main character duo type vibe

mub + grub

Opens with storybook

Narrator explains some context

Characters sitting on couch bored and decide to go on an adventure

Travelling on a boat (maybe made of a milk carton), one character could

even play the she was the one notes and the other character is like
WHERE DID U FIND A GUITAR THIS BOAT IS TINNNYYYY. other one
snarks bark in a sarcastic tone the magic of cinema

Use blue cellophane type material to make the water?

Make it to an island with a spooky forest or ruins? - get back up again

from trolls style scene where sunshine lollipops is playing and the main
characters is going thru it like nothing is wrong while baddies are
around and the side kick is like :0 bruh are you seeing this everything is
not fine then the main looks a round a bit, zoom in on him as the music
fades and spooky backing track gets loud and everything gets darker
but then RECORD SCRATCH main is like …. NAHHHH and the fun music
starts again. main is flicking a branch out the way and it hits side etc

They fall into a hole. Lego movie style fall into cave but its on a map and
the line go in all sorts of directions and hit walls etc. OR use this
concept for trying to get somewhere and they get lost

An action comedy revolving around an overly optimistic main character and

a witty but sarcastic sidekick are in a world where our nursery rhymes are
their mythology and legends and now no one believes in the magic. It's set
100 years after Goldilocks, an all powerful deity, went missing cursing the

narration style ideas (it can help move the story along without having to
show loads of locations or characters):
evan almighty
muppet christmas carol, technically gonzo is the narrator, don’t love the
fact that he’s physically in it but the way he narrates could influence my
script.

CMP 7
scene idea:
main: oh man i wish we could make everyone happy

side: yeah maybe you can leave.. that might work

main (dryly): ha ha ya very funny. But seriously if only there was
something we could do.
OS narrator: Haven’t you heard the prophacy?
side and main look up, look at each other then start screaming and
kermit style flailing around.
narrator: um… guys… clears throat… QUIETTTTTT.
they freeze in whatever position they were in and stop screaming.

narraot: thank you.

the prophacy gets explained. well now all you need is a map.
side: well guess thats a bust.. I’m going to take a nap

main: hey don’t give up. strokes chin… we just need to look farther
dramatic zoom out to show a store with a massive sign saying
‘Michael's maps for every occasion - especially quests’

side: well that’s convenient

good op for iconic extra character like the yohoo summer blowout
guy.
