Verification >>

You can verify that the optical module replacement is successful if no problem is found during the following inspection:

• Observe the ACT indicator on the optical module interface. If the indicator flashes green, this indicates the link is normal. If the indicator is off, this indicates the
sequence of the two pigtails needs to be changed.

• Query alarms and performance events in the system, and verify that there are no new alarms or performance events.

• Verify that the service board where the optical module is located is normal.

Replacing a Fiber Pigtail

Abstract >>
This procedure describes the precautions, steps, and verification methods for the replacement of a fiber pigtail.

Prerequisite >>

• You have recorded the routing mode of the fiber pigtail and the positions of its two ends.

• You can make sure that the new fiber pigtail is of the same type as the faulty one. Generally, multi-mode fibers are orange, and single-mode fibers are yellow.

• You have made a new label according to that on the faulty pigtail.

Precautions >>

• The services carried by the fiber pigtail will be interrupted during the replacement.

• It is suggested that you perform the replacement operation when the traffic is low, for example, between 00:00 a.m. and 05:00 a.m.

• You should unplug and plug the fiber pigtail carefully to avoid damaging its connector.

• Do not get your eyes close to or directly look at the pigtail connector when you install or maintain the optical interface board and pigtail.

• The radius of curvature should be 20 times greater than the fiber diameter. Generally, the radius of curvature is greater than or equal to 40 mm.

• There are two types of fiber connectors: LC and SC. You should select the connector according to the interface type.

Steps >>
1. Wear the ESD wrist strap.

2. Pull the pigtail connector and cover it with a dustproof cap.

3. Take off the dustproof cap of the new pigtail connector, and keep it properly for the next use. If there is dust on the connector, clean it with a piece of dust-free
cotton cloth or a fiber cleaner.

4. Lay the new pigtail according to the original routing mode and insert the connector into the optical interface according to the recorded position.

5. Stick a label on the new pigtail. Arrange the new pigtail neatly in the cabinet, and bind it at a proper interval. If the pigtail is too long, bind it outside the ODF.

Verification >>

You can verify that the fiber pigtail replacement is successful if no problem is found during the following inspection:

• Observe the ACT indicator on the panel. If the indicator flashes green, this indicates the link is normal.

• Verify that the service board where the fiber pigtail is located is normal.

• Query alarms and performance events in the system, and verify that there are no new alarms or performance events.

Replacing a Trunk Cable

Abstract >>
This procedure describes the precautions, steps, and verification methods for the replacement of a trunk cable.

Prerequisite >>

• You have recorded the routing mode of the trunk cable and the positions of its two ends.

• You can make sure the new trunk cable is of the same type as the faulty one. There are two types of trunk cables: 75 Ω and 120 Ω.

• You have made a new label according to that on the faulty cable.

Precautions >>

• The services carried by the trunk cable will be interrupted during the replacement.

• It is suggested that you perform the replacement operation when the traffic is low, for example, between 00:00 a.m. and 05:00 a.m.

Context >>

E1/T1 circuit emulation interface boards support the Ethernet-based TDM service (TDMoIP).

Steps >>
1. Wear the ESD wrist strap.

2. Use a screwdriver to turn the screws anticlockwise on the connector on one end of the board connected to the trunk cable.

3. Hold the connector with your hands and pull it out.

4. Lay the new trunk cable according to the original routing mode, and insert the trunk cable connector into the interface according to the original position. Tighten the
screws clockwise on the connector.

5. Bind the cable with clips and cut the extra part of each clip. Stick a label on the new trunk cable.

Verification >>

You can verify that the trunk cable replacement is successful if no problem is found during the following inspection:

• Query alarms and performance events in the system, and verify that there are no new alarms or performance events. If there is an alarm, perform the continuity test
on the cable with a multimeter.

• Check whether the services provided by the board connected to the cable are normal. If not, perform the continuity test on the cable with a multimeter.

Replacing a Network Cable

Abstract >>
This procedure describes the precautions, steps, and verification methods for the replacement of a network cable.

Prerequisite >>

• You have recorded the routing mode of the network cable and the positions of its two ends.

• You can make sure that the new network cable is of the same type as the faulty one. Network cables are classified as crossover cables and straight-through cables.

• You have made a new label according to that on the faulty cable.

Steps >>
1. Wear the ESD wrist strap.

2. Pull out the connector of the faulty network cable.

3. Use a pair of diagonal pliers to cut the clip that binds the cable to pull it out.

4. Lay the new network cable according to the original routing mode, and insert the cable connector into the network interface according to the original position.
When you hear a click of the connector, this indicates the network cable is connected successfully. If the green indicator of the network interface is lit, this
indicates the link is normal.

5. Stick a label on the new cable, and bind it with clips. Cut the extra part of each clip.

Verification >>

Observe the ACT indicator of the network interface. If the indicator is lit green, this indicates the link is normal, and the network cable replacement is successful. If the
communication is not normal, perform a continuity test on the cable with a tester.
