Activity 1 Mechanization of Simple Tools

This document discusses the mechanization of simple agricultural tools and implements in the Philippines. It begins with an introduction noting that the Philippines has a largely agricultural economy and population. While farming was traditionally done manually, mechanization has increased food production. The learning objectives are to familiarize students with the historical origins and development of tools, create awareness of mechanization problems and prospects, and discuss advantages. The procedure has students partner to select a simple tool from categories like land preparation, planting, harvesting, etc. They trace the tool's origin and map its mechanized developments. For each development, students discuss problems that led to upgrades and the upgraded version's effects. Outputs follow a specified format and include an introduction, chapter on the

Basic Farm Machineries and Mechanization

Activity 1

MECHANIZATION OF SIMPLE TOOLS AND IMPLEMENTS

A. Introduction
In general, the Philippines is an agricultural country wherein most of its population, especially in
the rural areas, is dependent mainly on agriculture for employment and living. Traditionally, agricultural
production is done manually using hands and simple tools to make production easier. With the advent of
development, machineries and modernized equipment in farming made a significant increase in the
production of food for the ever-increasing population.

Mechanization includes the upgrading of simple tools for a more efficient output. This involves
the creation, distribution, and application of a range of implements, machinery, and equipment for the
cultivation, planting, harvesting, and initial processing of agricultural land.

B. Learning Objectives

At the end of this activity, the students should be able to:

• Familiarize the historical origins of tools in agriculture;
• Sketch the layout of development of these tools in agriculture;
• Develop awareness on the problems and prospects of mechanization in agriculture; and
• Discuss the advantages of mechanizing these tools in relation to food production.

C. Procedure/s
o The activity will be done by partner.
o Students should select simple tools used in the following categories (Land preparation, Planting,
Crop Maintenance, Harvesting and Postharvest).
o Trace the origin of the selected tool/s from the given category and map out the development
involved in mechanizing the simple tools.
o In every development, discuss the problem/s identified that affected the tools to be developed
and/or mechanized.
o Include in your discussion the following salient points:
▪ Origin of the tools or where it is commonly utilized/used.
▪ Problems encountered that made way for the development of the upgraded version of
the selected tools.
▪ Upgraded version: its effects on the environment, crop growth & development, yield and
others.
o For a uniform output, follow the following format:
▪ Use A4 size of bond paper.
▪ Single spaced with, Font style: Arial, Font size: 12 and all margins: 1”

o Categorize the content of the paper using this simple format:

▪ Chapter I. Introduction
Includes brief rationale of your chosen topic
▪ Chapter II. Mechanization of simple tools
Timeline of development of the selected tools and its upgraded versions until its
present version (mechanized).
Discussions of the salient points mentioned above in every development.

▪ Chapter III. Conclusion

Closing statements and your realizations regarding the chosen topic.

o Deadline will be on March 14, 2024.

o Output will be scored following this rubric:

▪ Relevance of the selected topic 50%
▪ Creativity 20%
▪ Organization and presentation of ideas 30%
