Geometric

Modulor is a geometric system based on the Fibonacci sequence and the Golden Section. It uses ratios of terms in the Fibonacci sequence to define human proportions for architecture and design. Le Corbusier developed Modulor to provide measurements that scale harmoniously from the human body to buildings and urban plans. A computer program was used to generate drawings replicating Modulor using dxf files, which can be read by CAD programs.

The limit to what can he done using geometry is the mathematical knowledge and
imagination of the individual. As an example let us consider Le Corbusier's Modulor
shown in figure. Modulor is (based upon the Fibonacci series, examples of which arc

In both cases each term is the sum of the two preceding terms. Thus if xn is the nth
term.

Xn = Xn-1 + Xn-2
This equation has the general solution
Xn= (v< p 2-1) < p n + (v<p2-1) (-1/<p n) n x0
(v-1) (v <p 2+1)

where <p =1+^5/2 is the Golden Section and v = 1

As n gets larger, the ratio of successive terms becomes closer to <p regardless of the
starting two terms of the series. X0 and X| .

If X1 / Xn = <p. than y=<p2 and Xn=<pn Xo which is the basis of the modulor. The

dxf files are text files which can be read by CAD programs such as AutoCAD,
