Bacteria DLP

The detailed lesson plan discusses teaching students about disease prevention and control. The objectives are for students to discuss common communicable diseases caused by bacteria, recommend actions to prevent their spread, and understand the importance of self-monitoring. The lesson involves students solving puzzles in groups about pictures of bacteria, then presenting and discussing what the pictures showed. The teacher introduces pathogens as microorganisms that cause many common diseases and guides a discussion on bacteria as a type of pathogen.

Group 2

Wow! Class Very impressive presentation. Each group (students clap their hand)
really did great a job! Give yourselves a big around of
big claps!

What do you think those pictures about? Sir, about bacteria

Is this communicable? Yes sir

Very good!

ABSTRACTION Let’s now begin our discussion. -Many of the most common
diseases are caused by tiny
First, is Pathogen. What is Phatogen? microorganisms called
PATHOGEN. Diseases caused
by the direct or indirect
spread of pathogens from one
person to another are called
communicable diseases.
Are you familiar of Pathogen?
(Student’s answer may vary)
Exactly! Very good.

Next is BACTERIA, we have 2 types of BACTERIA the

Toxin bacteria and Resident bacteria, let us discuss
first the definition of Bacteria.

Mr.______Ms._______ Kindly read the flash on the Yes sir

screen? BACTERIA are one-celled
microscopic organisms that rank
among the most widespread of
living things. Some are small that
a single grain of soil may contain
over 100 million of them. Most
bacteria do not cause disease. In
order to live, all bacteria must
have a food supply, as well as
suitable temperature, moisture
and darkness. Some bacteria
digest nonliving food materials
such as milk and meat. These
organisms are called
saprophytes. If the food supply is
a living plant or animal, the
microorganism is called a
parasite. The plant or animal that
the parasite feeds on is called a
host.

Very good! Thank you!

Next is the 2 types of BACTERIA First we have

Toxin Bacteria.

Mr.______Ms._______ Kindly read the definition of

Yes sir
Toxin bacteria? Toxin Bacteria produces a certain
poison. Botulism is a food poison.
These bacterial live in the soil.
Once they enter the body
through a wound, they can cause
tetanus or lockjaw. Other
bacteria cause pneumonia.

Exactly, very good! It is produced of what?

-Poison sir
Very good! Thank you

Last is Resident bacteria.

Mr.______Ms._______ Kindly read the definition of Yes sir

Resident bacteria? It lives in the human mouth and
intestines and on our skin. These
help protect us from harmful
bacteria. Lactobacili, found in the
gastrointestinal tract, produce
lactic acid from simple
carbohydrate. Coliform bacilli,
found in the intestines, help
break down carbohydrates and
combat disease-causing bacteria.
Resident bacteria cause infection
when it moves from where
residents are.

Thank you, very good! A resident bacteria lives in what part

of our body? Sir, to our mouth sir
Exactly! Very good!

Example, a bacteria in the mouth is moved to the ear then

you get an infected ear Yes sir

Is that clear class? Yes sir

Any question, clarification? None sir

APPLICATION Now that we’re done discussing the bacteria and types
of it. Let’s have an activity.

hand in bond paper recall the things your parents
taught you to prevent sickness. Write these things in (students will do the activity
each finger in five minutes. I’ll give you each group and participate)
extra bond paper, you are going to do is write the
importance of those things you’ve written on each
finger.

Presentation of the Activity (Group 1 will present their

output)
Group 1
