Timeframe
A. Introduction 30 minutes
Panimula A dress is enhanced by things which are added on to the basic style. The sleeve
is one of them. Sleeves make dress designs interesting. They emphasize the beauty
of the figure or correct figure defects. A successful dressmaker knows the process
involved in making different dresses. Some sleeves are short, while others are long.
Some are loose, while others are just right. Some sleeves are suitable for certain
activities. Some are identified particularly to certain costumes.
Sleeve is a part of the garment covering the arm. It is a part that fits over or
around something to protect it or to hold its parts together.
Basic Types of Sleeves
1. Set-in sleeve is sewn to the bodice armholes.
2. Kimono sleeve is wide loose short or wrist length. This style is obtained from
traditional Japanese dresses and adapted as today fashion.
3. Raglan sleeve is a sleeve that extends in one piece fully to the collar, leaving a
diagonal seam from underarm to collarbone.
4. Angel sleeve is a very long wide sleeve usually hanging loose from the
shoulder often used on robes and gowns.
5. Puff sleeves are short sleeves that have added fullness in the sleeve cap and/or
the bicep. The bicep is either elasticized or has a cuff. Varying amounts of fullness
can be added for more or less 'puff'.
6.Butterfly sleeve is a beautiful sleeve with a puff on top and slightly loose at the
hem. It is basically a puffed sleeve but one that does not taper off like the normal
puffed sleeve, nor ends in a cuff. It has a very elegant look and is usually paired
with low cut gowns.
Collar is a part of a shirt, dress, coat, or blouse that fastens around or frames the
neck. It varies in size and shape. This will depend upon the wearer .
Skirts have been in fashion for centuries. Their styles and patterns have evolved
with time. Skirts can be worn on any event, whether on a formal or a casual
occasion. Skirts come in a variety of colors, lengths, and styles.
Skirt is the lower part of a dress/gown or a separate outer garment that covers
a person from the waist downwards.
