Should all professors learn the way to love what they teach?
More than 80 percent of college students do not feel they properly learn the subjects given
in a class due to some of their professors ignore the causes of this phenomenon. These professors
think the only way to evaluate y teach is the traditional one. They do not keep in mind there are
things around students that can affect their performance dramatically. Recent research showed that
students improve their Cognitive, physical skills and their capabilities to receive new knowledge
if there is stimulus given to them during the learning process. For example, Low-intensity exercise
increased positivity the mood and the mental understanding in college students from Japan,
Tamura et al (2018). The stimulus also negatively affects the students’ performance in class like
sleepiness which causes mind-wandering. Therefore, the way some professors evaluate and teach
must not be only directed to what they know (quantitative), it must be for their motivation,
participation, and the overall progress of the students once the professor has guided and
implemented stimulus.
Motivation is an important fact which must be present in the learning process. If this mood
is not present students will learn nothing. Professors should know this emotion is the basis of the
content, therefore they will have to trigger their students to be motivated with the subject through
stimulus. As this essay previously mentioned, exercising withing a class will help students to
engage with the content and the professor, it will also help the brain to trash bad moods like mind
wandering and procrastination. Using a variety of student-active teaching activities and giving
them real life examples to understand a topic also increases their motivation. If professors notice
some of their students are not motivated even though they have already implemented strategies to
motivate them, they will have to start evaluating it. Not only the professor should guide their
students to be motivated but also the students should be motivated for what they do because this
will affect students working life where they will be asked for satisfactory results which cannot be
reach without motivation.
Participation must be included as something to evaluate due to its future benefits. When
students get used to participating, they will be able to get involved in round tables or scenarios that
allow them to participate while working. E.g., Presenting ideas or advances to a group of people
in a business meeting. Moreover, evaluating participation is not always about who knows more or
who talks the most, it also keeps in mind the students’ attempts to express their ideas even if they
say nothing. Some of those attempts are caused by the fairness of speaking in front of other people.
Besides, you will have to be careful because you do not know if that fairness was caused by another
professor who scolds the students for giving the wrong answer in public. Consequently, the
professor should ensure this trauma is gone, to lead the students to develop this skill which will
help them in the future.
The last feature that must be included in the evaluation process is the overall progress of
the students after implementing dynamic strategies and preventing some issues while learning. If
a particular student improved the aspects covered before and it can be used at the end of the
semester along with some content of the class with no difficulties, then this student had satisfactory
progress. If not, there is a problem beyond its mind that can easily affect or distract it. For example,
the parents of this teenager were in the hospital a long time ago due to they had a hard car accident,
so he or she is all the time thinking on them. This is also something to keep in mind at the time to
evaluate a student.
As a result of applying these features to a class, the professor will ensure most of the
students learn a big part of the content or the subject, improve their performance in any subject
and make them learn how face work life without any issue in that path. Also, it will lead students
to love these kinds of classes and want to know more about this subject. Remember to always
motivate and love your students to achieve what they want, that is the real purpose of a professor.
