Step 7.Click on Router, go to Config, click on FastEthernet0/0(for first LAN,1/0 for second
LAN), insert the gateway of the connected LAN(here LAN is connected to 0/0, so we
have to insert the first LANgateway here) and the click on tab button to get the subnet
mask.
Step 8.Repeat the above step to insert the gateway value of LAN2 in therouter.
Step 9. After assigning the gateway in the router, now assign a process byclicking on “Add Simple
PDU(Packet Data Unit)” or a message and select the source and destination devices to
transfer packet from one device to another device.
Step 10.Run/Start the process.
Observation :
Case-1:(Switch and Switch configuration)
Case-2: (Switch and Hub Configuration)
Inference :
The router is used to connect two separately connected Local area networks(LAN’s).While
connecting two LAN’s together we make sure to give a default gateway to each system in the
LAN. This helps us to better connect the router and the networks in the LANs.
The router maps the default gateway of each LAN and passes the PDU accordingly.

subnet-mask and at next-hop enter IP address ofrouter1, and IP address of router3 and
network address.
Step 12. Repeat the above step process viceversa for router2 and router 3.(router2 is connected
to router1 and router3,
Step 13. After configuring the routers, now assign a process by clicking on “Add Simple
PDU(Protocol Data Unit)” or a message and select the source and destination devices
to transfer packet from one device to another device.
Observation :
Case-1:
Case-2:
Inference :
In static routing we need to give the networking address , next hop address and subnet mask in
the static column in order for the data to be transmitted properly. It is a time consuming and
long process and often leads in errors due to the complexities in the network addresses .
It helps us to understand the routing table and how routers are statically connected.
Experiment Name : Dynamic Routing (RIP) using Packet TracerSoftware
Date of the Experiment : 27-03-2022
Aim :
To configure dynamic routing using the RIP protocol in Packet Tracersoftware.
Materials Required :
Packet Tracer Software
Procedure :
Step 1. Select some end devices and paste them on the screen, assign IP address and
Subnet mask to all the selected devices ,select a switch and paste it on the screen.
Step 2. Connect the switch to all the devices on the screen with the help ofcopper straight
through cable.
Step 3. Repeat all the above 4 steps to make another LAN and paste itbeside the
previous LAN.
Step 4. Now select two routers and place them on the screen in the middleof the two switches.
Step 5. Now take two copper straight through cable and connect therouters to the
switches.(one router - one network).
Step 6. Click on Router1, go to Config, click on GigaBitEthernet0/0, insertthe gateway of
the connected LAN(here LAN is connected to 0/0, sowe have to insert the first LAN
gateway here) and the click on tab button to get the subnet mask.
Step 7. Repeat the above step to insert default gateway value for LAN2 inrouter2 and LAN3 for
router3.
Step 8. For router2, add another network IP address inGigabitEthernet0/2
Step 9. Click on router1 and in, config block click on RIP, here enter all 5network addresses(3
network addresses of PC’s and two network addresses of Routers(path1 and path2).
Step 10. Repeat the same procedure for router2 and router3.
Step 11. After configuring the routers, now assign a process by clicking on “Add Simple
PDU(Packet Data Unit)” or a message and select the source and destination devices to
transfer packet from one device toanother device.
Observation :
Inference :
Dynamic routing does not require the next hop address or the subnet mask. When we enter
the network address of all the LAN’s and routers, it automatically finds the best path for
transmission dynamically and saves time for the data transmission to occur. We make use of
the RIP configuration in the router.
