A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 2

I. LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson the pupils should be able to:
a. Identify the three phases of matter
b. Determine whether the object is a solid, liquid, or gas
c. Give examples of a solid, liquid, and gas

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Cooperation, Appreciating the different object around us

III. TEACHING AND LEARNING PROCEDURES

Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity
A. Preliminary Activities
Greetings
” Good morning Class!”
“Good morning Teacher Kinney, good morning
classmates!”
“Is everyone ready to learn new lesson today?”
“Yes, we are!”
Prayer
“ Before we start, please stand up for a prayer”
(The pupils will stand for a prayer.)
Energizer
“Class do you want to learn a new song?”
“Yes Teacher!”
“Okay! The title of this song is, Science Song”

“Science Song”
Tune: Jingle Bells
Ready for the song
In, one, or two, or three
Then sit properly
Science is ready!
Lessons are all new
All you have to do…
Listen to your teacher
To learn something new

Hey, SCIENCE time,

SCIENCE time
Oh, SCIENCE time

Be ready
It’s more fun
More activities

Hey, SCIENCE time,

SCIENCE time
Oh, SCIENCE time

I like it
I love it
I like my teacher too.
(repeat the song)

Checking of Attendance
“I will check your attendance. Raise your hands and
say present if you’re here.”
“Understand class?”
“Yes Teacher!”

Review
“What have you learned about the topic yesterday?.”
(The pupils will give their answers.)

B. Motivation
“Class, what do you see around our room?”
“Jane?”
“I see bag and chairs teachers.”
“Very good Jane!”
“Yes Kamille?”
“Notebook and pen teacher”.
“Good job Kamille!”
“Now class, I have here a stone, water and balloons.”
“Let’s start with the stone.”
“What do you think is the shape of stone?”
“Tom?”
“Oval/Circle teacher.”
“Great! Can you touch it?”
“Yes teacher!”
“What about the water? What can you say about it? Do
the water and cup have the same shape?.”
“Yes teacher!”
“Good!”
“Lastly, what can you say about the balloons?”
“Zack?”
“Good job class!” “It is colorful teacher!”
“We call these things as Matter.”
“Everybody says MATTER!”
“MATTER!”
“Everything we see and everything we touch is called
matter because matter is everywhere!”

C. Lesson Proper
“This afternoon class, we will be going to discuss
about the phases of matter.”
“But first, let’s define what is matter.”
“What is matter?”
“Matter is anything that has weight and takes up
space. And all the things around us is a matter. Even the
air we breathe is also a matter.”
“Class, did you know that there are 3 phases of
matter?”
“Yes! There are 3 phases of matter namely; Solid,
Liquid, and Gas.”
“Let’s discuss them one by one.”
1. SOLIDS- relatively rigid, definite volume and shape.
In a solid, the atoms and molecules are attached to each
other. They vibrate in place but don’t move around.

“So, I have here a stone. Please come in front and

touch it.”
(The pupils will go to the front and touch the
stone.)
“Now, describe what you feel?”
“Very Good! What is the shape of the stone?”
“Mark?”
“Circle teacher”
“Correct!”
“So, a stone is one of the example of solids because
it has a definite shape that occupy spaces.”
“Who can give me another example of a solid
object?”
“ Carla?”
“Very good!” “a chair”
“what else?”
“Simon?”
“a table teacher.”
“Right!”
“Always remember class, we can determine the
object if it is solid, if we can touch and see it.”

2. LIQUIDS- definite volume but able to change

shape by flowing. In a liquid, the atoms and molecules
are loosely bonded. They move around but stay close
together.
“I have here an empty cup and a water. Can you
please come in front?”
“yes teacher”
“What have you observed class? What happened to
the water inside the cup? Does the water takes the shape
of the cup?”
“very good observation!” “yes teacher”
“It only shows that the liquid takes the shape of the
cup.”
“now give me another example of liquid.”
“Ethan?”
“Juice”
“Correct!”

3. GASES- no definite volume or shape. The atoms and

molecules move freely and spread apart from one
another.

“What am I holding class?”

“Balloons!”
“Right! These balloons are filled with air inside and
the air is an example of gas.”
“can you see the air class?”
“no teacher!”
“Yes correct! Air cannot be seen because it is
colorless but it can be felt. There are also gases that can
be seen like smoke and clouds.
