2) What could’ve been done and Who’s at fault in this accident?
- An overcrowded elevator that tragically killed 10 construction workers on January 27, 2011, in
Makati City, was the result of numerous parties sharing fault. First, a large share of the culpability
for failing to protect the safety of their employees rests with the construction business and its
management for allowing the elevator to become overcrowded and undermaintained. Second, to
prevent such mishaps, the elevator manufacturer and maintenance service provider should have
adopted strict safety checks and maintenance processes. Government organizations in charge of
inspecting building sites and implementing safety laws also bear some of the blame for lax
enforcement of safety requirements. Additionally, the employees might have overloaded the
elevator due to stress over meeting project deadlines, which could have led to the disaster. This
tragic tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the need to adhere to safety standards in the letter, as
well as the need for sufficient training and supervision. It serves as a strong reminder that worker
safety needs to be given top priority at all times in the construction sector.
