FRIEND CLASS
1. The Pathfinder Pledge and Law
The pathfinder pledge illustrates how God’s amazing grace can transform
our minds, attitudes, and actions. It entails the power of reformation, hence, to
be “pure and kind and true”. A covenant to the Creator that we, as Master
Guides in Training will keenly keep His Laws and be stewards of His creation.
In connection, the Pathfinder Law as well weighs significant importance
on our journey as MITs.
Keep the morning watch – A daily reminder of putting God first in
everyday by prayer and personal devotion.
Do my honest part – As the saying goes: “honesty is the best policy”,
keeping our integrity alive though the world is otherwise.
Care for my body – Genuine care for our body by regulating balanced
diet.
Keep a level eye – Humbleness.
Be courteous and obedient – We should pay respect to our God, to our
government, to our family, friends, and even to those who dislike us
because respect should not be hardly gained, it must be given regardless
of age, societal status, or relationships.
Walk softly in the sanctuary – Proper observance of church and worship
decorum.
Keep a song in my heart – Sing in moments of gladness, in moments of
despair, and in moments of uncertainty. Praising the Heavenly Father
amidst any circumstances.
Go on God’s errands – Like Moses in Exodus, we will go.
2. The Old Testament Books
The Old Testament books share different writers and lessons yet point solely
to God’s love. We often serve and worship God out of obligation. We crawl into
church, force ourselves to serve others, but our hearts are not in it. How can this be
changed? See God’s love through the scriptures.
Once we understand His great love, serving and worshiping will not become
duties, but joy. Everyone who truly worships the Lord will have a change of
direction and purpose in spiritual life and experience. We’ll experience the peace
that surpasses all understanding.
When we focus on God’s power and authority, we will love Him, worship
Him, and as a result, we will be transformed. “We become what we worship.”
3. The Psalm 23
We often worry on things that we lost sight of God’s promises. Psalm 23
reminds us that God is our shepherd and that he will sustain our daily needs. The
gift is in the promise, and we may go about our work assured that what God has
promised He is able to perform, and that the gist, which we already possess, will be
realized when we need it most. (EDUCATION page 258, paragraph 2)
In our weaknesses, He serves as our strength. In our trials, He serves as our
victory. In our insufficiency, He serves as our Greatest Provider. Therefore, we
must fear not. He hears our cries. That mountain is there to be moved. That sea is
there to be parted. That multitude existed to be fed. Everything has a purpose. Trust
God, He’s got the best future for us. Hebrews 11:1, Now faith is the confidence in
what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
The Psalm leads us to deliberately choose to trust God’s redemptive power,
so that our fear and anxiety can gradually give way to God’s salvation, and we
begin experiencing change from lament to praise, from despair to hope. (SSL,

5. The Philippine National Anthem
“Buhay ay Langit sa piling mo”, the line I deeply appreciate from our
National Anthem, “Lupang Hinirang” or translated as The Chosen Land. It is
indeed heaven when we are home.
As we love God, we should also love our motherland. We MITs have the
responsibility to take charge as leaders of the thriving society. Seventh-day
Adventist youth must be the leader in promoting peace within and beyond our
church. Matthew5:9 says: “Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called
children of God.” Accepting and understanding one’s differences amidst
races/religion are fundamental values in promoting good connections as Filipinos.
How can we share Jesus if we have our own prejudices? We are all God’s children,
created in His own image and likeness. As God said on the Holy Scriptures, “Love
your neighbor as yourself”.
6. Daniel 1:8
Real power is self-control. “Glorify God in your body, and in your spirit,
which are God’s.”
God has bought us with an infinite price. God has given to every human the
freedom of choice. We are to educate and train our mind and body to put these in
best possible use. We are to do all we can to strengthen ourselves, for God is
pleased to have us become more efficient co-laborers with Him.
Stated in the book of Education by Mrs. Ellen G. White, “Their habits of
temperance and their sense of responsibility as representatives of God called to
noblest development the powers of body, mind, and soul…” pertains to Daniel and
friends’ self-control. As a result, Daniel 1:20 says, “In all manners of wisdom and
understanding, that the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than
all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.” These passages teach
us the benefits and significance of temperance in our daily endeavors as students.
In today’s age of technology, we are prone to social media and our time has
been divided and worst wasted due to lack of temperance. Consequently, below are
the Five Biblical Tips for engaging on social media.
- Focus on what is praiseworthy. Philippians 4:8
- Be slow to post, tweet, reply, etc. James 1:19; Proverbs 12:18
- Know when to engage with difficult people. Proverbs 26:4-5
- Remember the purpose of interacting with others. Thessalonians 5:11
- Know when to remove yourself from unhealthy groups and unfollow those whose
content doesn’t uplift. Titus 3:9-10
