I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standard
The learner understands the distinction between and among creative nonfiction types and forms
B. Performance Standard
The learner competently delivers an artistic presentation summarizing and analyzing the form, theme and
techniques of a chosen creative nonfictional text
C. Most Essential Learning Competencies
Present a commentary/critique on a chosen nonfictional text presenting a particular type or form

D. Specific Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to
1. Analyze and interpret a well-written creative nonfictional text
2. Write a mini critique of a work based on overall impression and mechanics
3. Appreciate the importance of helping fellow writers improve through constructive critiquing.

B. Motivation
“What’s Wrong with You?”
The teacher will present a short paragraph. The learners will identify the errors in the paragraph.
C. Activity
“Who, What, Why”
The teacher has assigned the class to read an excerpt of “On Being a Critiquer”.
The class will be will divided into 5 groups and will be provided with questions to
discuss within the group.

Each group will assign members to answer the who, what, and why questions. Their answers will be shared
to the class.
Questions:
1. Who are the characters in the story?
2. What was the problem of the Drill Sergeant?
3. What was the first comment about the copy of the Newest Air Defense Artillery
Manual?
4. Was the Drill Sergeant happy about it? Why?
5. What was the writer’s (Private Bolk) suggestion?
6. Was the Drill Sergeant happy about his suggestion? Why?
C. Analysis
Guide Questions:
1. Has someone even been a critic to you? How did you react?
2. Has someone ever been a critique to you? How did you react?
3. Have you acted like a critic to someone? How did that person react?
4. Have you acted like a critique to someone? How did that person react?
5. How would you differentiate a critic and a critique?
D. Abstraction
What are the elements to evaluate when writing a critique of a nonfiction?
E. Application :
“Let’s Get Critique-cal”
The learners will write a 300-word critique on your classmate’s memoir.
Learners will be graded using the rubric below.

What are the elements to evaluate when a writing a critique?
IV. Evaluation :
Pen and Paper Test : The teacher will give a 5- item quiz.
Directions: Identify what is being asked. Write your answer on a ¼ sheet yellow paper.
1. It is the Latin word for “Critique”.
2. It is not to judge and point out failings but to make the writing better.
3. It judges and points out the weakness of the writer.
4. It considers something as a whole than its details or the different aspects
of the written work.
5. It evaluates the work for structural strengths and weaknesses.
