LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 1
I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
Identifies/ Names the four basic shapes (square, rectangle, triangle and circle) in a 2 dimensional
(trayanggulo,kwadrado,lingin,rektanggulo )(flat/plane) objects. (M1GE-IIIe-1)
Draws the four basic shapes. (M1GE-IIIf-3) Within Curriculum
Draw different kinds of objects showing a variety of shapes. (A1PR-If Across Curriculum
II. SUBJECT MATTER
Topic: Identifies, Names and Draws the Four Basic Shapes
Reference: MELCs (M1GE-IIIe-1), Grade 1 MTB Module
Pre-requisite concept and skills: Naming common objects in the environment, drawing shapes
Materials: Video Presentation, common objects inside the classroom
Values Integration:
Teaching Approach: Practical Work Approach, Questioning
III. PROCEDURE
1.Preliminary Activity
a. Greetings
b. Drill/Review
The 5 eggs represent one-half of a set of eggs. Draw inside the circle the correct number of eggs that should be
added to complete the set.
c. Motivation
-Show video about the four basic shapes.
-Show the different objects that are found inside the classroom. Let them classify according to shape.
d. Discussion/Presentation of the lesson
Show picture.
Questions:
1. What are the different shapes that you saw in the picture?
(When pupils mention a shape, let them draw the shape on the board.)
2. How do you describe a triangle? Circle? Square? Rectangle?
(When pupils describe a shape, point and count the sides and corners with the pupils.
Emphasize the following:
- A circle has no corner and no side.
- A triangle has 3 corners and 3 sides.
- A square has 4 corners and 4 equal sides.
- A rectangle has 4 sides but only 2 opposite sides have equal length.
2.Developmental activity
1. Activity
Group the class into 3 and set standards. Give each group different task to complete in 3-5 minutes.
Group 1 “Its shape Pizza time”
This group will be given a paper plate and different shape cutouts. They will cover the paper plate “pizza” with lots
of shape toppings, then they will count the number of each. They will also count how many size and corners a
shape has.
Group 2 “Go on a shape hunt”
This Group will have 4 boxes and magnifying glasses. To make an adventure of learning shapes, they will find the
four basic shapes inside the classroom and they will classify according to their shapes.
Group 3 “Draw Me”
This group will have a different kinds of pictures. They will draw the shape that matches to the pictures given.
2. Analysis
Let the group present their work in front of the class.
Ask a question:
-How is a circle different from a square, rectangle and triangle?
(A circle does not have corners and sides while square, rectangle and triangle have.)
-How is a triangle different from a square and rectangle?
A triangle has 3 sides and corners while a square and rectangle have 4 sides and corners.)
-How is a square different from a rectangle?
(In a square, all sides have equal lengths while in a rectangle, only two pairs of sides have equal lengths.)
-How is a square similar to a rectangle?
(Both square and rectangle have 4 sides and 4 corners.)
3. Abstraction
-What are the different shapes that we have identified?
(We have identified a square, rectangle, triangle and circle.)
-On what objects can you see a rectangle? Square? Circle? Triangle?
(Pupils name objects where they see the shapes.)
A triangle has 3 corners and 3 sides.
A square has 4 corners and 4 sides which are equal in lengths.
A rectangle has 4 corners and 4 sides. Its two opposite sides have equal lengths.
A circle has no corners and sides.
4. Application
Individual Activity “Feed a shape monster”
This activity, the teacher will turn paper bags into shape-eating monster. The pupils will pick one cut out shape and
let them fill the hungry belly of monster paper bag that correspond to their shape.
IV. EVALUATION
Direction: Trace the figure in the first column. And encircle the correct objects that correspond to the shape.
