D. Discussing Lesson Proper
Concepts and
Practicing Skills Today, we will be learning a new lesson, and it
is one of the approaches in teaching literature
inside the classroom.
(Students listen to the proper discussion.)
Before starting, what comes into your mind
when you hear the word “Stylistic?”
(Students answer may vary.)
Thank you for all of your ideas, class!
Today, we will be discussing the Stylistic
Approach.
When we say Stylistic Approach:
A stylistic approach in teaching literature is a
comprehensive method that involves analyzing
the unique style, language, and literary devices
used by authors.
To understand it more, class:
This focuses on understanding the detail of
language of its elements, including vocabulary,
sentence structure, and figurative language,
to deepen students' appreciation and critical
thinking skills in literature.
(Students are listening to the discussion.)

So, class, stylistics helps us understand how
authors use:
Vocabulary
When we say Vocabulary, it is the set of specific
words chosen to create a certain mood or
feeling in the reader. So, for vocabulary, we
have here the simple words and complex
words.
• Simple Words:
(Convey a clear and direct message.)
"The cat sat on the mat."
"She ran fast."
"The sun is shining."
• Complex words:
(Can add depth and sophistication, but overuse
can make the text difficult to understand.)
"The feline perched on the woven mat."
"She sprinted swiftly."
"The radiant sun cast its golden rays."
Followed by,
Sentence structure
When we say Sentence Structure, it is the order
of all the parts in a sentence. Which has two
(Students are listening to the discussion.)
categories the short sentences and long
sentences.

• Short sentences
(Create a sense of urgency or fast pace.)
For example:
In the horror story, "The door opened. He went
inside. It was dark."
• Long sentences
(Build suspense or create a formal tone.)
For example:
In the historical novel, "As the sun set, the old
castle glowed with a warm light. The main
character took a deep breath and prepared for
what lay ahead."
Also, we have the: (Students are still listening to the
discussion.)
Figurative Language
In the stylistic approach, figurative language is
like using code in a message. It goes beyond
the literal meaning to create a deeper impact.
• Simile
(A direct comparison using "like" or "as.")
"Her smile was as bright as the sun."
(Compares a smile to sunshine)
• Metaphor
(An implied comparison, saying one thing is
another.)
"The world's a stage."
("world" is not literally a stage, but the metaphor
suggests life is like a performance)
• Personification

(Giving human qualities to nonhuman things.)
In the fable, "The flowers danced in the
meadow, swaying to the rhythm of the wind." (Students are still listening to the
discussion.)
(By analyzing these figurative devices, we
understand how the author uses creative
comparisons and descriptions to paint a picture
in the reader's mind and evoke emotions.)
Now, are the three elements of stylistics
approach being clear?
Yes, ma’am!
Do you have questions or clarifications
regarding today’s topic?
None, ma’am!
Great!
E. Finding SHARING OF THOUGHTS AND INSIGHTS (5

applications of
concepts and To demonstrate your understanding of the three
skills in daily elements of stylistic approach and within each
living aspect, including distinguishing between simple
and complex vocabulary words, short vs. long
sentences, and identifying different forms of
figurative language such as similes, metaphors,
and personification, let us have an activity.
This activity is titled;
“Act & Formulate”
Now, for the instructions:
I will be dividing you into three groups,
alphabetically. Choose your leader and get one
folder from the three. You may assign one of the
three elements of the stylistics approach, which
are vocabulary, sentence structure, and
figurative language.

complex vocabulary words, short vs. long
sentences, and identifying different forms of
figurative language such as similes, metaphors,
and personification to depict your learning about
the stylistics approach.
(The task will be flashed on the screen)
Are the instructions clear?
Yes, ma’am!
I will be giving you five minutes to collaborate
with your group members. Afterwards, your will
perform and discuss your work.
Are we clear on that?
Yes, ma’am!
You may now start.
Time’s up! Let’s now start to listen with your
group works. (The first group will present their work in
front, followed by the other groups until
everyone is done.)
Job well done, class!
Let’s give everyone five claps and three 1, 2, 3 (clap)
hoorays for a job well done! Hooray! Hooray! Hooray!

Good to hear that!
Now let me ask you this question.
What do you think is the importance of learning
the importance of knowing and understanding
the elements of stylistics approach?
(Students answer may vary.)
How did the author's word choices and
sentence structure affect the story? What
made you curious about this particular style?
(Students answer may vary.)
By understanding the exposure to various
stylistic approaches ignites curiosity in readers
to explore different genres and authors. This
motivates you to delve deeper into the world of
literature and discover the unique voices of
various writers.
