Computer Technology | Syllabus Teacher Mr. Andrew Pepple Course Description Computer Technology | (Grade 10, 11, 12) ‘Students will improve keyboarding skills, learn advanced word processing skills, use advanced spreadsheet operations, use presentation software, use the Intemet for advanced research and learn desktop publishing skills. This course will provide students with a good understanding of computer terminology. There will be absolutely no HALO or games like HALO in class. Playing these types of games will result in a referral. How the Class will be Run The format of the class will center on lab work but will not be restricted to lab work. Every so often during the class we will have short breaks in which you check your work with a neighbor and formulate questions. Also, | will be incorporating many exercises in the form of topic specific activities at the end or beginning of most units to help gel your understanding of the day's topics. | want to make our class experience as student-active as is feasible; | welcome your input on anything we do in class. Attendance and Tardiness By now | believe you understand that missing class on a regular basis is a very bad idea in high school. Habitual absence will hurt your overall understanding of the material covered in this course and hence will automatically lower your grades on tests. Please plan to attend all classes. Being tardy to class is a nuisance to me and to your classmates. Please be advised that class will begin promptly, and tardiness will not be tolerated. What | Expect of You As students in my class | expect you to stay current with the assigned exercises and work towards mastery of, not mere acquaintance with, the material we cover. This will require a concerted effort on your part; keep in mind too that it is both my job and my pleasure to help you. | would like you to attend all classes, although I understand that this may not always be possible. Most of all, | expect you to seek out help if you need it. My time outside of class, study halls, and your fellow classmates are all great sources of help. The responsibility for getting help is on you, but you also have much support. Graded Work Students will be assessed based on the following criteria: Written exams and quizzes Lab work Class and group participation Attendance Grading Scheme With the above system of graded work, you will have a maximum possible point total of X points. Your marking period grade will be determined by calculating your percentage of points earned according to the maximum possible point total.
