The Snow White was asleep when the seven dwarfs returned home. Snow White
woke up, and the dwarfs asked who she was. She told them her story and they let
her stay with them. Every morning dwarfs go to the forest to look for precious
stones. They ask Snow White not to walk far away from the cottage. They are
afraid that her step-mother wants to kill her.

One day step-mother learnt that Snow White was alive. She decided to poison her.
The step-mother dresses as an old woman and goes to the forest. The Snow White
does not recognize her. The step-mother gives her an apple. Snow White eats it
and dies. The step-mother hurries away from the cottage. On her way home she
falls into a mountain river and drowns. The dwarfs cannot believe that Snow White
is dead. They put her into a crystal coffin.

One day a young prince comes to the forest. He falls in love with Snow White. He
kisses her and she opens her eyes. The dwarfs and the prince are very happy —
Snow White is alive again!

4.1 READING

Read the interesting text and make questions for practice WH questions

Back in 1900 a man was trying to sell sausages in the streets

of New York. He boiled them and then kept them hot in a tank
of hot water. Nobody was very interested until he started to
shout, ‘Get your hot dachshund sausages here!’ A dachshund
is a long, thin, brown dog which looks something like a
sausage. As a result he sold many more of his sausages.
A newspaper reporter took a photograph of the sausage seller
dachshund
holding up one of his sausages for a story in his paper. But he
wasn’t sure how to spell ‘dachshund’, so he called it a ‘hot dog’
instead. And that’s how the name started.

The same salesman lent a pair of white gloves to his customers to hold the hot
sausages with. But somebody forgot to give him back the gloves. So he went to a
baker and asked him to make him some long pieces of bread to hold the hot dog
in. This was such a perfect combination that it has remained unchanged ever
since.

Make questions for the following answers:

38
39
a. -------------------------------------------------------- ? The man sold boiled sausages.

b. -------------------------------------------------------- ? No, people weren’t interested.

c. ----------------------------------------------- ? He called them ‘dachshund sausages’.
d. --------------------------------------------------------------- ? A newspaper reporter did.
e. --------------------------------------------------- ? Because he didn’t know how to spell
‘dachshund’.
f. ------------------------------------------ ? A baker made the bread for the ‘hot dogs’.

A message from an alien

49
50

Hello human, I’m an alien from the Planet Vishnu, it’s about 2 million light years far
from Earth and my name’s Hokrized. At the moment I’m writing you this message
from my intergalactic mobile phone, which is very fast as you can see! (And it’s
also responsible by the crop circles) Today I’m planning to fly around some planets
and look for a new animal species, I usually do it when I have free time. This week
is being very busy, but I managed to find a free time during the break. This month
I’m graduating from my pilot course, so, I’m probably going to Earth this year! Isn’t
it amazing?! I’m studying so hard my whole life just because I want to go in this
planet that my parents talk about. They say you humans are destroying it… And it’s
a pity. Because I’m always hearing that Earth is a place with a lot of beautiful
places. That’s why I’m going there as soon as possible! Bye Human, I hope this
message will make you think more about your planet.

Nelson Rohihlahla Mandela, born, July 18, 1918, was the first South African

in 1944. In 1961 he abandoned peaceful protest and became head of the ANC's
new military wing. Sentenced to life imprisonment in 1964, Mandela came to
symbolize black political aspirations and was named head of the ANC after his
release on Feb. 11, 1990.He and F. W. de Klerk shared the Nobel Peace Prize for
negotiating South Africa's peaceful transition to multiracial democracy. After the
