Setup Computer Server
Steps on working COC3
• Insert the cross cable to the back of internet port of the computer as well as the other side of the
cable.
Peer to Peer connection
1. Go to start.
2. Click the control panel.
3. Click the System and security.
4. Click the Windows firewall.
5. Click turn windows firewall on or off.
6. Turn off both settings then press ok.
7. Find the Network at the right and bottom side of the windows, right click and open network
and security.
8. Click change adapter settings.
9. Right click Local area connection and go to properties.
10. Click Internet protocol version 4 and click its properties.
11. Change the IP address and click ok.
Ping test…
Creating Work group (Server and Window)
1. Go to start.
2. Right click computer and go to properties.
3. Click change settings and click change.
4. Change the name of the workgroup on what name is given to you by your assessor. Ex. CSS
5. Restart automatically.
6. Check if the name of the workgroup is already there. Just follow the steps from 1-2.
7. Go to start and click computer.
8. Go to network to check if the server and the window 7 is successfully there.
9. Go to window 7 to obtain the IP address.
10. Go to network, right click and open network and security.
11. Click change adapter settings.
12. Right click local area connection and go to properties.
13. Click internet protocol version 4 and click properties.
14. Click obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain server address automatically.
15. Press ok then close.
Installing – Domain Controller with DNS server role
1. Click windows and R together.
2. Type dcpromo and click enter.
3. Click next.
4. Click next.
5. Click the Create a new domain in a new forest then click next.
6. Type the name of FQDN of the rest root domain (Ex. Css.com) then click next.
7. Select Windows Server 2008 R3 in the Forest functional level then click next.
8. Check or make sure DNS Server was checked then click next.
9. Click yes.
10. Click next.
11. Type the restore mode administrator password then click next. Ex. Css_2020
12. In the summary page. Click next.
13. Active Directory will install. Check reboot on completion.
14. Server will automatically restart.
Adding DCHP Server Role (Server)
1. Make sure the IP address of server (192.168.1.2).
2. Type 192.168.1.2 in the preferred DNS Server IPv4 address text box then ok.
3. Go to start.
4. Go to Administrative Tools.
5. Click Server Manager.
6. Locate add Roles then click Add roles.
7. Click next.
8. Check DHCP Server then click next.
9. Click next.
10. Click validate. (It should be valid after clicking the button)
11. Click next.
12. Click next.
13. Click add on the right side.
14. Type the scoop name. (Ex. Css_scope)
15. Type the starting IP address. (Ex. 192.168.1.5)
16. Type the ending IP address. (Ex. 192.168.1.30)
17. Check activate this scope then click ok
18. Click disable DHCP then click next.
19. Click next then click install.
20. Your client or windows 7 will automatically receive the network and choose the work
network then press close.
Adding File Server Role
A. Setting-up File server role
1. Click start.
2. Go to administrative tools.
3. Click server manager.
4. Locate roles and click add roles.
5. Click next.
6. Check file services then click next.
7. Click next.
8. Click next.
9. Check file server.
10. Check file server resource manager.
11. Click next.
12. Check local Disk C: and Local disk D: then click next.
13. Click next.
14. Click install.
15. Click close.
B. Sharing folder
1. Click start then choose computer.
2. Double click Local disk D: to open.
3. Right click then choose new then click folder (new folder).
4. Rename the folder as Redirection.
5. Right click redirection then click properties.
6. Click security.
7. Click edit.
8. Click add.
9. Type everyone then click check names.
10. Click ok.
11. Click apply and ok.
12. Right click redirection then choose properties.
13. Click sharing.
14. Click advanced sharing.
15. Check share this folder.
16. Click permissions.
17. Check the three box.
18. Click apply and ok.
19. Click close.
Create organizational unit with adding client-user
1. Click start.
2. Click administrative tools. Choose active directory users and computers.
3. In the left side, right click your domain controller (ex. Css.com)
4. Click new then choose organizational unit.
5. Type the name of your organizational unit (ex. Redirection)
6. Click ok.
7. Right click redirection (organizational unit)
8. Click new then choose user.
9. Fill up the first name same with user log on name.
10. Click next.
11. Type the password and confirm password (ex. Css54321)
12. Uncheck user must change password at next log on.
13. Check user cannot change password.
14. Check password never expires.
15. Click next.
16. Click finish.
Configuring group policy management for folder redirection
1. Click start.
2. Click administrative tools and choose group policy management.
3. In the left side, click the expand button of the domain.
4. Locate and select redirection.
5. Right click redirection.
6. Choose create a GPO in this domain and link it here..
7. Type the name of your GPO (ex. Redirection)
8. Click ok.
9. Right click redirection.
10. Choose edit.
11. In the left side, select user configuration.
12. Click expand button of the policies.
13. Click the expand button of the windows settings.
14. Locate and select Folder redirection.
15. On the right side, Right click desktop then choose properties.
16. In the settings menu, choose Basic – redirect everyone’s folder to the same location.
17. In the root path, type the path of the shared folder with the format:
\\server name\folder name
(ex. \\server1\redirection)
18. Click apply then choose yes.
19. Click ok.
20. Repeat steps 15 to 19 with the other folder (documents, pictures, music etc.)
21. Double click redirection.
22. Click ok.
23. In the security filtering section, click add.
24. Type everyone.
25. Click check names.
26. Click ok.
27. Click close.
Updating group policy
1. Click start then choose run.
2. Type gpupdate /force then click ok.
After you update group policy, go to your client and log in.
1. Go to start.
2. Right click computer and go to properties.
3. Click change settings then click change.
4. Type the name of the domain. (Ex. Css.com)
5. Log in and click ok.
6. The client will automatically restart.
7. Switch user then click other user.
8. Log in.
9. Check if the folder redirection is working.
10. Right click and click new. (New folder)
11. Rename the folder.
12. Click folder and right click then choose new (text document)
13. Rename.
14. Click and type success then enter and save.
15. Go to start and type run.
16. Click run then type gpupdate/force then enter.
Go to server and check if the folder is entering from the client.
1. Go to computer then click local disk D:
2. Click redirection.
3. If the folder that you made showed up, it means your folder redirection is successful.
Go back to your client to give access to your server
1. Right click the folder that you created.
2. Go to properties and click security.
3. Click edit.
4. Click add.
5. Type everyone then click ok.
6. Click apply.
7. Click ok.
8. Click ok.
Go to your server
1. Go to computer and click local disk D:
2. Click redirection.
3. Click the folder that you made.
4. Right click desktop and go to properties.
5. Click security and click continue.
6. Click other users.
7. Type everyone then click check names.
8. Click apply then ok.
9. After that, click desktop.
10. Click the file that you created.
11. Click the text that you created.
If the text will appear, it means that your work succeed.
Remote Desktop
1. Click start.
2. Go to administrative tools.
3. Click server manager.
4. Locate roles summary then click add roles.
5. Click next.
6. Check remote desktop services.
7. Click next.
8. Click next.
9. Check remote desktop session host then click next.
10. Click install remote desktop session host anyway.
11. Click next.
12. Click next.
13. Click do not require network level authentication then next.
14. Choose configure later then click next.
15. Click add (Ex. Joseph)
16. Click check names.
17. Click next.
18. Click install.
18. Restart your server.
19. Installation succeeded will appear after you restart.
Enabling Remote Desktop (Server)
1. Click start.
2. Right click computer then click properties.
3. In the left side, click system protection.
4. Click remote.
5. Select allow connections from computers any versions of remote desktop.
6. Click apply then ok.
Access Remote Desktop (Client)
1. Click start.
2. Type remote desktop.
3. Click remote desktop connection.
4. Type the IP address. (192.168.1.5)
5. Click ok then press enter.
6. If the server can’t connect, enable remote desktop to the client.
Printer server
1. Make sure the printer was installed properly.
2. Click start then click devices and printers.
3. Right click the printer you want to share and choose printer properties.
4. Click sharing.
5. Check list in the directory then apply.
6. Click ok.
