Public Library of the Bemowo District of the capital city of Warsaw - The library

provides lending services: books, magazines, films, audiobooks, educational materials,

regional materials concerning the Bemowo district and Warsaw. The library was founded
in 1956. It is one of the 17 district libraries in Warsaw. The library is computerized, since
2000 an online catalog of the Library has been created, which is included in the network of
catalogs of Warsaw libraries. The library offers access to materials on site in the reading
room, home rental, delivery of books for seniors and people with disabilities, rental of e-
books and audiobooks via an online platform in the library catalog. It is possible to
subscribe to the library both in the stationary version by personal enrollment and in the on-
line version by enrolling with a qualified signature. The library currently makes its
collections available in 11 modern facilities, in 2020, 470,000 books, films, audiobooks
were borrowed, 1,200 people used e-materials, and e-press was borrowed 9,450 times.
Over 1,000 e-audiobooks have been made available. Over 1,100 people use the library's
mobile application.
Business model : The library is a public institution that makes its collection available free
of charge. The library provides its services 6 times a week from 8.00 to 19.30. Subscription
to the library is also free and both residents of the country and people from outside Poland
can sign up - thanks to the e-subscription service. Readers can use all the libraries of the
Bemowo district. In addition to lending and sharing library materials, the library offers free
classes for children, youth, adults and seniors. The library in the Bemowo district
advertises its services both on its website, social networking sites, websites of friendly
institutions and centrally on the website of the city of Warsaw.
customer Experience : Readers can use the free book collection both on-site and on-line.
In addition, orders are booked by phone, via the Internet application and through home
pickup orders for the elderly and disabled. Apart from readers, the customers of library
systems are also employees of libraries in this district as well as nationwide and foreign
ones. They use catalogs and bibliographic descriptions prepared by librarians of the library
in the Bemowo district.
Efficiency : Since ancient times, libraries have changed their functions, from libraries only
for a designated circle of recipients to public libraries. The changes brought about by
informatization have not spared libraries, now they are becoming knowledge centers
available on-site and on-line. Readers cannot function without libraries, because only in
libraries can one find books from many years ago in various fields of knowledge and
various topics. For libraries, the reader is the basic customer of its services. The only
criterion for access is shelf space, but in the current age of digitization, it is possible to fit
an entire library within terabytes of network drive capacity.
Application class : The library operates in several systems, thanks to which it supports
administration, finances, reader service: records, e-registration, lending of books and other
materials, e-books, and a separate system for cataloging books was created.
Application class : Interface and integration of library systems . In Warsaw, 5 different
library systems operate in 17 district libraries. One system should be created that would
centralize all library catalog databases and give the possibility of using one library card
from various district libraries.
Application class: training simulation The library wants to create a training simulation
thanks to which newly hired employees will be able to learn at this stage how to handle the
reader, the most important problems related to it, cataloging books in the new system. The
training program can be adapted to the needs and changes in existing cataloging
regulations.

Book cataloging system : The library in the Bemowo district is moving away from
creating individual bibliographic descriptions of books on their own. In the case of books
that have not yet been cataloged by any of the libraries, such a description can be made
available to other libraries as part of the non-profit support of the NUKAT system. This
system allows for faster development of the book collection, which results in faster access
to books and other materials for readers. However, 16 other libraries in individual districts
create their own library catalogs, there is no single central catalog which makes it
impossible to search the selected title in all catalogs in Warsaw. PHP 5.2.5 and connection
to the MySQL 5.0.45 server were used to create the system in the Bemowo Library.
They process: downloading a book for cataloging, cataloging at a selected level of
bibliographic description accuracy, sending the description to the catalog of the library
database
Hardware : Windows
The first methodology: Agile Development This methodology is mainly based on
customer satisfaction - it is first the employee and then the reader who will be satisfied
thanks to the speed of software development. It is important that the reader and the
employee work together, knowing what their expectations are contacting the developer.
The cataloging systems do not change very often, which will allow the software to run
smoothly for a longer period of time, and in the event of necessary changes, Agile
Development will only apply adaptations without having to change the entire software.
Second Methodology DevOps This methodology allows you to combine your
development, IT operations, quality engineering and security teams into one team. This is
particularly important when cataloging books according to predetermined standards and
combining catalog protection against cyberattacks. At the moment, it is the databases of
books and readers' databases that are the most valuable collection for libraries. Thanks to
this methodology, the software development process is reliable. The cooperation between
programmers and the operational team is quick and very effective in this case.
Evaluation: Due to the need to use standards when cataloging books, the use of the Agile
Development method involves the need to find a programmer who is also familiar with
cataloging standards, and to adapt the software to the requirements of descriptions in
individual libraries - the degree of detail of the bibliographic description. The use of
DevOps methodology seems more obvious in this case as several teams are brought
together to ensure both updating and the speed and security of the book cataloging
software.
Borrowing of the book collection : the system allows you to download personal data in
order to enroll the reader in the library. The following data is collected: name, surname,
address of residence, correspondence address, registration number, telephone number and
e-mail address. These data may be collected in accordance with the Personal Data
Protection Act. This system allows the reader to be enrolled in all 11 branches of the
Bemowo District Library. Thanks to the record, it is possible to download the library card
number assigned to the reader and assign books or library materials that the reader wants to
borrow to his/her card. In its work, the Mateusz system is based on a database of the SQL
format - MySQL.
In addition, it is possible to borrow books and reserve them thanks to the e-library on the
Android system. At the beginning, we choose the library - the libraries we use, and then ...
just scan (or rather photograph) the book's barcode with the phone camera to get full
information about the volumes of the series or other items written by the author. The
application works with both the library code and the ISBN code printed on the book. A
scan of the code from the book (new) in the bookstore will tell us which institution already
has it in its collection. The information is supplemented with a map with the selected
facility and its opening hours. The application allows you to store library cards in QRCode
formats , as well as quick access to library accounts (prolongation of items, information on
return dates, etc.). There is no limit to the number of supported cards or library accounts -
you can store cards for the whole family and easily choose them while at the counter
(renting items).
Process : The possibility of enrolling the reader in the library and borrowing library
collections
Hardware: Windows
The first methodology: Scrum Development - This methodology is very good in the case
of a small number of library facilities, in the case of Bemowo it is 11 facilities. It is the
team that decides about the program and its functionality, which is particularly important in
the case of access to the changing personal data of readers and the functioning of the
Personal Data Protection Act . This method enables quick meetings with the developer to
examine the individual productivity and speed of employees during library enrollment and
service when borrowing materials from the library.
The second methodology - FDD - This methodology allows you to achieve the effect of
speed of software development. By using five simple processes, it is possible to achieve the
easiest ways to program in a shorter time. This is especially valuable when using Android
applications.
Evaluation When both methodologies are used, it is the FDD methodology that is less
cost-effective. Scrum is provided by an experienced team of programmers throughout the
project. With continuous feedback, this methodology has a better chance of success.
Training system : the system can support the process of introducing a new employee -
client to reader support. Thanks to the training, the employee will be able to serve readers
faster, learn how to deal with readers, provide competent answers to inquiries and find the
necessary information as quickly as possible in all 11 library outlets in the Bemowo
district.
Process The employee opens the training system, logs in and selects the appropriate type
of task and its level.
Hardware: Android
The first RAD methodology - this methodology allows for the rapid creation of
applications, it is the user who has the main influence on its speed of creation. In the case
of training systems, it is the trainer and trainer who can use this argument. Also, the client
of this program can quickly give an opinion on the entire project. This methodology will
allow to reduce software defects at every stage.
The second methodology - Extreme Programming - this methodology does not require
too many resources and time to create it. Low costs and internal research into the solutions
designed in the project allow us to obtain very good software. This methodology allows
you to take advantage of customer involvement in software development.
Evaluation High modeling costs and expensive code generation in the RAD methodology
will work well when creating a training application that can be created for a wider audience
than just one library. The number of changes taking place in employee positions - the
generational change leads to a large number of new employees, the transfer of knowledge
from generation to generation is difficult and the training system will minimize the risk of
improper training of employees.
