___A modulating signal of 2 vol
amplitude modulate a carrier signal of 5 volts amplitude and frequency 1
Mhz. Calculate: 4
p> ve
a) the modulation index, RK [2]
b) the frequency of each component in the resulting composite signal.
[5]
) the total power of the signal that would be dissipated in a 1-ohm
resistor, as well as the total power contained in the sidebands. [6]
d) Using a scale of 1 cm per 1 volt, sketch the amplitude modulated carrier
signal in the time domain. [5]
e) Using a scale of 1.5 cm per 1 volt, sketch the spectral components of the
composite signal in the frequency domain, clearly marking the carrier
and two sidebands. [5]
Question 2:
a) A double-sideband suppressed carrier (DSB) signal is an amplitude
modulated signal whose carrier wave has been eliminated. However, the
purpose of the carrier is to translate the baseband signal into a higher
frequency range. Explain how this goal is still achieved in the absence of
a carrier signal. [4]
b) A 107.6 MHz carrier is frequency modulated by a 7-kHz sine wave. The
resultant FM signal has a frequency deviation of 50kHz.
i. Determine the highest and lowest frequencies attained by the
modulated signal. [4]
ii. Calculate the modulation index of the FM wave. [2]

quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM)? [2]
b) For a phase shift keying (PSK) modulator with three (3) bits per
symbol,

of a PSK modulator with 4 bits per symbol is poor compared with
another with 3 bits per symbol.

(NRZ) waveforms for the digital data stream 10011101. [10]
Question 5:
An electronic system comprises of two amplifiers and one filter. The input
power to the system is 0.1 mW. If the absolute power gains of amplifiers are
100 and 40, and power loss of filter is 4, determine:
