1 Hi class. It’s my pleasure to see you again in today’s lesson. Unit 6c - Lifelogging
2 What are you going to learn today?
In this lesson, you will read an article about a lifelogger. You will also identify
information ‘for’ and ‘against’ in the Critical thinking part. The use of the word ‘write’
will be also learnt. Then, you will use the vocabulary to ask and answer in an interview
about Lifelogging.
3 Look at the sentences about what someone did last week. Complete the sentences with
these verbs: made, posted, took, wore.
So, the answer is:
1. wrote my diary
2. took photos
3. wore a fitness tracker
4. made a video
5. posted comments on social media
4 We are going to read the article about lifelogging and match the paragraphs (1–4) to the
topics (a–d).
a the first ‘lifelogger’
b the diary of Samuel Pepys
c people who write a diary today
d lifelogging today and in the future
5 But before you read, I’m going to show you some new vocabulary in the text.
First of all, it’s ‘describe’ (v). This word means to say what somebody / something is like.
For example: My dad is tall and thin. So, I’m describing him.
6 The next word is ‘historian’ (n) which means a person who studies or writes about
history; an expert in history
7 Next one is ‘digital technology’.
You may know what ‘digital’ means in the phrase ‘digital watch’.
So, digital technology refers to technology receiving and sending information as a series
of the numbers one and zero,
8 Next word is ‘fitness tracker’ which means a device that you can wear to record your daily
physical activity,
9 Now read the article and match the paragraphs (1–4) to the topics (a–d).
(pause)
Here are the answers:
a. The first lifelogger – paragraph 3
b. the diary of Samuel Pepys – paragraph 1
c. people who write a diary today – paragraph 2
d. lifelogging today and in the future – paragraph 4
10 OK, read the article again and answer the questions.
1. When did Samuel Pepys write his diary?
(touch the answers and explain)
2 What did he write about?
3 What percentage of people write a diary nowadays?
4 Who writes a diary more – men or women?
5 Who was the first ‘lifelogger’?
6 How often did his camera take a photograph?
7 How do many people record and share their lives nowadays?
8 In the future, why will people look at our photos, videos and comments
11 Look at these expressions with write. What type of word comes after write in each
expression? Is it a preposition or an article + noun?
1 write about history
2 write a diary
3 write to your grandparents
4 write down a word
(pause)
Let’s see the answer:
1. Write about – after ‘write’ is a preposition.
For example. Write about my life, write about science.
1. Write a diary – after write is a noun.
For example: write a blog, write a book
2. Write to your grandparents – after ‘write’ is also a preposition
For example: write to me soon, write to my friends.
3. Write down a word – so after ‘write’ is a preposition.
For example, write down your name.
12 We’re moving to Critical Thinking. Read these comments about lifelogging and social
media. Which comments are for (F)? Which are against (A)?
For means the comments supporting lifelogging and social media. So, For are good
comments about lifelogging and social media.
And ‘Against’ are bad comments about the topic.
So, let’s have a look now.
1 You can share photos with family and friends. (F)
2 People spend all their free time looking at their phone. (A)
3 Fitness trackers make people do more exercise.(F)
4 It’s interesting and fun to look at your past.(F)
