Introduction:
AutoCAD has commonly used software for the development and modification of
engineering drawing.
There are some common commands in AutoCAD that are used while creating floor
plans are follow as:
Commands:
1. Line: It is used for making straight lines in AutoCAD.
2. Offsets: It is used for making a copy of the selected line, from which you want
to be offset, at a distance of the required offset.
3. Copy: It is used for making a copy of the selected object and it is then pasted at
the location by clicking on there where you want to paste it.
4. Move: It is used for moving a selected object.
5. Trim: It is used for trimming extra part of any object (line, arc, hatch) which
exceeds any specific line or boundary.
6. Extend: It is used for extending an existing line to some other line or boundary.
Pa
19
7. Mirror: It is used for making a mirror image of any object.
8. Rotate: It is used for rotating an object to any desired angle.
9. Explode: It is used for exploding/dividing an object into possible no. of parts.
10. Hatch: It is used for applying any hatch (concrete, glass, wood, bricks, stones,
gravel, etc.) to any closed boundary.
11. Arc: It is used for creating arcs of the desired radius, ending point, and starting
point. In-floor plans, it is commonly used for making door symbols.
Procedure:
1. First we will change the units to our suitable scale on which we have to draw the
floor map for this purpose we will type UN and change the units and insertion
scale will be selected as inches and precision scale wil be selected as needed.
2. Turn on the ORTHOMODE so evey line is straight for drawing curve turn it
off.
3. Type L and draw a boundary line/limits of the plot where you want to build
according to the dimensions of your plot. For boundry first take dimension of 52’-
7(1/4)” for vertical line and horizontal line of 29’-9”. For rooms make rectangle
and cut it as suitable dimensions.
Bed room=12’X8’ (7/5)”
Pa
Bed room=13’-1.5”X 11’-10.5”
20
Bed room=13’-1.5”X 11’x10.5”
Lounge=13’-6”X6’-6”
Drawing room=12’-4.5”X 11’-8’(1/4)”
Bath room=7’-7.5”X 6’-6”
Kitchen=9’-4.5”X 8’-6”
Cupboard=2’X 8’-1.5”
Corr.door=3’-6”
Garage=6’-7”
4. Then draw the line for walls and give them offset to make a wall of desired
thickness. For using offset just type offset and select the object and type the
distance where you want the object.
5. Complete making the walls in the plan showing each and every room in the
house and space for everything you want.
6. Draw lines intersecting the walls where you want to place doors and windows
and offset them to the desired width of doors and windows.
7. Use the trim command to delete the lines between the intersecting lines. To use
trim command just type TR and enter then trim the are you want.
8. Now draw the windows and door symbols there in between the empty spaces.
9.To draw the door just draw two line perpendicular to each other of desired length
and then draw a circle from the point where the two lines meet and then remove
the unwanted area, for windows just draw three parallel lines and change the color
so it can be identified here we have given it green color.
Pa
21
10. For dimensioning first type D then click on modify to change the size of
dimension line and arrow head also to change color then change the size of
dimensioning line and arrow head so it can be visible enough.
11. Now to dimension select the dimension option at the top and specify the two
points where you want to show the dimensions it will show dimension length
according to the units and scale which we have provided at the start.
12. Next step is to add text where needed to show the location of rooms and other
things select the multiline text command from the top menu and we can do
changes as text size and font, for this purpose select multiline text and then specify
the area where u want to put the text and can do changes as a bar will be appeared
at the top.
13. Complete the floor plan using the above procedure.
14. First to make the house map we just make a rectangle of desired dimension
then make rectangles for room or any place we want to draw then to give it a
proper shape of desire we just trim the unwanted area by using trim command and
make some space for the doors and windows. Mostly we make rectangles of
desired dimensions and then trim the unwanted lines.
15. For the walls we just use the offset command and give the desired distance and
for windows we just make three parallel lines and give it a different color so it can
be distinguished easily from other lines.
16. Once the diagram is completed print it using the (Control + P) command.

AutoCAD has commonly used software for the development and modification of
engineering drawing.
There are some common commands in AutoCAD that are used while creating floor
plans are follow as:
Commands Used:
1. Line: It is used for making straight lines in AutoCAD.
2. Solid Union: Combine the selected 3D solids.
3. Solid Subtract: It removes the selected solid.
4. Power Dimensioning: Used for dimensioning of specific area.
5. Cylinder: To draw cylinder
6. Box: To draw a box.
7. Press-pull: To convert a 2-d object into 3-d by giving it dimension in 3rd
axis, also used to remove the excess area or we can say to create an area
formed by the closed boundary.
8. Extrude: Used to convert 2-d object to 3-d object.
9. SW isometric view
World view
Front view
Conceptual
Shades of Grey

NW isometric view
10. Copy: It is used for making a copy of the selected object and it is then pasted
at the location by clicking on there where you want to paste it.
11. Move: It is used for moving a selected object.
12. Rotate: It is used for rotating an object to any desired angle.
Procedure:
1. The firs step after opening the AutoCAD is to select SW isometric view
And World view.
2. Then a line is drawn which meter 500inches long.
3. Third step is to select front view and select one end of the line to draw a
cylinder whose diameter is 100inches and the length of the cylinder is
50inches.
4. Then again draw a cylinder selecting the center of other last cylinder circle
and draw a cylinder of diameter 175inches and length of 30in.
5. Change the conceptual into shades of gray by just right clicking at the left
right and selecting shades of grey and also selecting NW isometric view.
6. Select the center of cylinder circle and draw a line of 12.5in in vertical
direction and then draw a horizontal line of 87.5in.
7. Next step is to select box from top menu and specify the point that was last
drawn and move the cursor down and horizontally left and then type the
distance of 175 and then specify the length by again moving down and type
25 and then again to left and type 15.
Pa
24
8. Again select SE isometric view and select solid union to combine and to
combine first select the two cylinders and then select solid subtract and
select the cylinder and then click on the box that we created recently after
selecting it the box will be removed.
9. After that select the cylinder and select the center of the first cylinder and
give the diameter of 50in and draw the cylinder towards inward to any
distance but at least it should come out from both cylinders after that again
use the command of solid subtract and remove this new cylinder.
10.Select the line command and draw a vertical line of 5in from the center of
first cylinder circle then draw a horizontal line from that point of 25in.
11.Now select box command and draw box from that last point of height 10in
and width of at least 14in and then draw the box in inward direction of
distance 65in.
12.Again use the solid subtract command to subtract this box from the
cylinder.
13. Select a cylinder and draw it at some distance from the first drawing. Draw
the cylinder of diameter 175in and width of 15in.
14.Select line command and draw a vertical line of 12.5in from the center of
cylinder after that draw a horizontal line from that point to the right of
distance 87.5.
15.Select Box command and draw a box of length 175 and then move the
mouse a little downward and type 25 after that just move the box outward
and type 15in.
16.Again select SW isometric view and select line command and select the
center of back of the cylinder the draw a horizontal line of 12.5in and a
vertical line of 87.5in.
17.Select box command and draw a box from the previous left point.
18.To draw the box give vertical distance of 175in and horizontal distance of
25in and then pull outward and type 15.
19.Now select solid union command and select the three objects which we
have drawn and after that select SE isometric view.
20.Use the copy command and copy the first object and move it to the end of
line after that select rotate command and select the third object and rotate it
so that its front rotates to back and its back to front.
Pa
25
21.Now using copying command copy the three objects and then using move
command move them all together.
22.To dimension first select dimension
23.To change color we first type cltrl+1 and then the object to be colored is
selected and change its color to any color you want. Similarly, we change or
color the whole object.
24.Now our Oldham’s coupling is completed.
.
