TUTORIAL-2: ELECTROSTATICS

Semester: SP-2024 Course: PH109 1 Hour

1. A long cylinder carries a charge density that is proportional to the distance from the
axis: 𝜌 = 𝑘𝑠, for some constant k. Find the electric field inside the cylinder using
Gauss theorem.

2. Find the electric field a distance z above the midpoint of a straight line segment of
length 2L that carries a uniform charge density 𝜆.

3. Two point charges -4 𝜇𝐶 and 5 𝜇𝐶 are located at (2, -1, 3) and (0, 4, -2), respectively.
Find the potential at (1, 0, 1), assuming zero potential at infinity.

4. Given the potential V = # ! 𝑠𝑖𝑛𝜃 𝑐𝑜𝑠𝜙. Find:
(a) The Electric Field at (2, 𝜋/2, 0).
(b) Calculate the work done in moving a 10 𝜇𝐶 charge from point A = (1, 𝜋/6, 2𝜋/3)
to B = (1, 𝜋/2, 𝜋/3)

5. Find the capacitance of two concentric spherical metal shells, with radii a and b.
