Social Problems in the School Environment
School is a place for students to pursue higher education than before. Education is a process taken to be
able to adapt to environmental influences. The success of education will be achieved if there is an effort
to improve the quality of education. According to Law Number 20 of 2003, the functions and objectives
of education are :
1. National education functions to develop capabilities and shape the character and civilization of a
dignified nation in the context of the intellectual life of the nation.
2. National education aims to develop the potential of students to become human beings who believe
and fear God Almighty, have noble character, are healthy, knowledgeable, capable, creative,
independent, and become democratic and responsible citizens.
Reporting from the book Guidance and Counseling in Schools (2016) by Hidayah Quarisy, the problems
faced by every human being are not only personal problems, but also social ones. This happens because
individuals relate to other individuals or ith their socio-cultural environment. Some social problems, such
as :
1. Difficulty in friendship
2. Difficulty in making friends
3. Feeling alienated in group activities
4. Difficulty in adjusting to the group
5. Difficulty in establishing harmonious relationships with all family members
6. Difficulty dealing with new social situations
7. Difficulty in socializing in their environment.
Social problems in School
Reporting from the official website of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia,
the following are some of the social problems in schools :
1. Not wanting to cooperate
Usually school children find it difficult to work together because they have their own play group or are
lazy. Things like this should not happen in schools, because it causes inequality between students.
Mutual cooperation will make schools better and of course show cohesiveness among students.
2. Disposing of garbage indiscriminately
Disposing of garbage indiscriminately does not only occur in the neighborhood, but also in schools.
Students who often throw garbage carelessly will certainly pollute the school environment and
endanger their own friends. If the school environment is dirty, the learning atmosphere will be
uncomfortable. It is better for school children to start getting used to throwing garbage in its place, both
at home and at school. If the environment is clean, the learning atmosphere at school is also
comfortable.
3. Skipping
Skipping is usually a choice for children to avoid lessons or teachers they don't like. Or because the
students did not pay attention from their parents. Students who like to be truant will certainly be left
behind in their subject matter, compared to their friends who always attend class. If there are students
who show truant behavior, the school should provide guidance and attention to them. So that they
consciously understand that education is important for their future.
