Twenty members of the History Society of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Krishna Nagar, visited the
Red Fort in the heart of Delhi in Chandni Chowk on 21st April 20xx. They were
chaperoned by the senior school History teacher, Ms. Shweta Anand.
On the arrival, they were met by a guide who was well-informed and patiently answered
the several questions we asked. The Red Fort is situated on the banks of the Yamuna
River and was built by Emperor Shah Jahan when he shifted his capital from Agra to
Delhi. The students were amazed by the still-standing red wall which surrounds the
structure and the beauty of the Lotus Fountain. They also visited the museum which
now displays the books, clothes, shoes, utensils, etc. of Mughal kings and queens.
The guide told them that the Emperor used to meet the people of his kingdom to listen
to their problems in the ‘Diwan-i-Aam’ every day. Their visit to this historical place
reminded them of the flag hoisting and the Prime Minister’s speech on Independence
Day which is broadcasted on television from within the walls of the Red Fort.
The Red Fort was designated as a World Heritage site in 2007. it is the largest
monument in Delhi and attracts thousands of tourists every day. It was a great learning
experience for the students.
