3. Five capacitors of capacitance 10μF are each connected with each other as shown in
figure. Calculate the total capacitance between the points A and C. (C = 10μF)
4. Four capacitors C1 , C2, C3 and C4 are connected to a battery of 12V as shown in figure.
Find the potential difference between the points A and B. ( VAB = 4 V)
5. A parallel plate capacitor of 300μF is charged to 200 V. If the distance between its plates
is halved, what will be the potential difference between the plates and what will be the
change in energy stored? ( V’ = 100 V, Energy loss = 3 J)
6. In figure, the energy stored is C4 is 27 J. Calculate the total energy stored in the system.
(E = 594 J)
7. A 10 μF capacitor is charged by a 30 V dc supply and then connected across an uncharged 50 μF
capacitor. Calculate (i) the final potential difference across the combination and (ii) the initial and
final energies. How will you account for the difference in energy? ( (i) V= 5V, (ii) Ui = 4.5× 10-3 J and
Uf = 0.75 × 10-3 J, energy lost as heat and electromagnetic radiation)
8. Two capacitors are in parallel and the energy stored is 45 J, when the combination is raised to
potential of 3000 V. With the same two capacitors in series, the energy stored is 4.05 J for the same
potential. What are their individual capacitances? ( C1 = 9μF and C2 = 1μF)
9. An ebonite plate (K= 3), 6 mm thick is introduced between the parallel plates of a capacitor of
plate area 2× 10-2 m2 and plate separation 0.01m. Find the capacitance? ( C= 29.5 PF)
10. Two parallel plate capacitors X and Y have the same area of plates and same separation between
them. X has air between the plates while Y contains a dielectric of dielectric constant 4. (i) Calculate
capacitance of each capacitor if equivalent capacitance of the combination is 4μF. (ii) Calculate the
potential difference between the plates of X and Y. (iii) What is the ratio of electrostatic energy
stored in X and Y? ( (i) Cx = 5μF and Cy = 20μF (ii) Vx = 9.6 V and Vy = 2.4 V (iii) Ex/Ey = 4:1)
11. Obtain the equivalent capacitance of the network shown in figure for a 300 V supply. Determine
the charge and voltage across each capacitor. ( V1 = 100 V, V2 = V3 = 50 V, V4 = 200 V, q1 = 10 - 8 C,
q2=q3= 10 - 8 C and q4 = 2× 10 - 8 C )
