Date Description

October 14, 1992 Nintendo announced they were collaborating with

Sony to create a CD—ROM add on for the Super
Nintendo entertainment system called the
‘PlayStation’. But never got released.

December 3, 1994 · Sony decided to release a console called the

‘PlayStation’, which would sell for $299 on
release.

· The PlayStation Mouse - released in Japan in

1994 - became the one most likely to end up at
the back of a drawer.

September 9, 1995 The PlayStation, also known as PS1 was released

in North America, Europe, and in Australia.

March 4, 2000 · The first PlayStation 2 was released in Japan in

March 2000. It was a big old beast but
effectively killed Sega's console ambitions,
forcing the rival to make its Dreamcast its last
machine.

· As well as being one of the best-selling

consoles of all time, the PS2 was the first
console to embrace multiple color options.

July 7, 2000 Sony decided to make a new model of the original

PlayStation called the ‘PS One’ to help avoid
confusion and to make a cheaper alternative for
only $99.

July 19, 2001 Remarkably, the PS2 had its own hard drive as an
optional accessory. The 40GB drive plugged into
the expansion bay of the original machine and
could be used to install games onto to speed up
loading times.

December 13, 2003 The PSX or PlayStation X was only ever released
in Japan. It featured a PS2 inside but was also a
digital video recorder, able to burn video onto
DVD-RW and DVD-RA, discs. It was designed by
Sony to be a general-purpose video device- an
all-singing, all-dancing machine, but the high costs
of the PlayStation X made it undesirable and poor
and sales quickly turned the PSX into a failure.

October 2004 The first slimline revision of the PlayStation 2

arrived towards the end of 2004. As the name
suggested, the PS2 Slimline was smaller, thinner,
and quieter than the first version. It was also
improved with the addition of an ethernet port.

December 12, 2004 While Sony was slim lining its PS2, the company
revealed the first handheld console, the PlayStation
Portable.

November 11, 2006 Sony released the PlayStation 3. The release of

PS3 was sort of a flop by selling at a minimum of
$499 due to MANY useless features that were on

College of Accountancy

the PS3. The PS3 tried to be an “All in one”

console that could combine stuff like Blu-ray
players.

August 30, 2007 A slimmer PSP - the PSP 2000 - was released in
2007. The PSP 2000 was a major upgrade to this
handheld console and like the other slim devices in
Sony's console line-up, the slimmer model was
lighter, thinner, and faster. It also had the ability to
output to televisions and had a USB charging
mode too.

October 2007 The PlayStation Eye was a camera that was

essentially a webcam and worked to track players
and allow gamers to play games that used motion
control and color detection too. We just found it
fell over a lot.

October 14, 2008 Another PSP - the PSP 3000 - followed in 2008.
The PSP 3000 had a few more upgrades that
included an improved screen.

September 1, 2009 Sony released the PS3 Slim. This trimmed-down

version was smaller, lighter, quieter, cooler and
used less power too. The first slim models also
greatly expanded the amount of space available to
store downloaded games

October 1, 2009 The PSP Go was a handheld gaming console

developed by Sony and released in October 2009.
It featured a sliding design with a smaller form
factor compared to previous PSP models and a
3.8-inch display.

September 15, 2010 The PlayStation Move was initially for the
PlayStation 3 (PS3) gaming console. It was
introduced as a motion-sensing game controller
platform to enhance gaming experiences on the
PS3 system.

College of Accountancy
9 Central Ave., New Era, Quezon City, 1107 Metro Manila

October 26, 2011 The PSP E1000, also known as the PSP Street, was
a budget-friendly version of the PlayStation
Portable (PSP) aimed at expanding the PSP's
market reach with its affordable price point.

December 17, 2011 The PlayStation Vita was Sony's successor to the
PlayStation Portable (PSP) and featured significant
hardware upgrades, including a high-definition
touchscreen, rear touchpad, dual analog sticks, and
improved graphics capabilities.

September 25, 2012 The PlayStation 3 Super Slim was the third major
redesign of the PlayStation 3 console, following
the original "fat" model and the "slim" model. The
Super Slim model featured a smaller form factor, a
sliding disc cover, and reduced power consumption
compared to its predecessors.

November 15, 2013 · The PlayStation 4 was released way back in

2013. It was seen as part of the eighth
generation of games consoles and a competitor
of Microsoft's Xbox One and Nintendo's Wii
U. The new console bought several design
enhancements including not only more
processing power, but also things like support
for HDR10 video and 4K resolution playback.

· The Dual Shock was the first major leap for

Sony's gamepad since near the beginning, with
its touch panel and LED lighting. - The
PlayStation Camera has two 1280x800-pixel
cameras with a 30 cm focusing distance, and
an 85-degree field of view. This system was
used for several games and required for use
with the PlayStation VR headset.

September 9, 2014 Shortly after the PS4 was released, a white version
became available too. It was included in a bundle

College of Accountancy

with Destiny originally and a great alternate

option.

September 16, 2016 The PS4 Slim was released and somewhat of
success due to being a much lighter console and
was a much cheaper option.

October 13, 2016 PlayStation VR was released in 2016 and was

perhaps one of the most affordable and accessible
VR headsets available at the time. It features a
5.7-inch 1920x1080 resolution OLED display
capable of 120 Hz refresh rate and can even
duplicate its display to the TV.

November 10, 2016 The PS4 Pro was released and was ‘Ultimate’
version of PS4, coming with much better specs
such as the ability to play games at 4k 30 FPS and
released with only a 1TB option.

January 8, 2018 Sony Interactive Entertainment announces that

PlayStation 4 (PS4) sales had surpassed 73.6
million units worldwide as of December 31, 2017.

October 15, 2018 Sony announces that PlayStation Network (PSN)

name changes will be available to PSN users in
early 2019, allowing players to change their online
IDs.

December 3, 2018 The PlayStation Classic is released worldwide to

commemorate the original PlayStation's 24th
anniversary.

October 8, 2019 Sony officially announced the PlayStation 5 (PS5).

This announcement came through a blog post on
the PlayStation Blog and included details about the
console's release window, hardware specifications,
and features.

March 18, 2020 Sony Interactive Entertainment announces that it

will postpone its PlayStation 5 (PS5) reveal event

scheduled for June 4, 2020, due to concerns

surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.

November 12, 2020 The PlayStation 5 was released worldwide and

alongside the Xbox Series X and Series S released
the same month, is part of the ninth generation of
video game consoles.

November 19, 2020 The PlayStation 5 (PS5) is released in the rest of

the world, including Europe, the Middle East,
South America, and other regions.

February 2, 2021 Sony announces that it will shut down the

PlayStation Store for PlayStation 3 (PS3) and
PlayStation Portable (PSP) consoles on July 2,
2021, and for PlayStation Vita (PS Vita) consoles
on August 27, 2021.

August 24, 2021 Sony announces that it will launch its

next-generation virtual reality (VR) system for the
PlayStation 5 (PS5), which will feature a new VR
controller, enhanced resolution, and improved
tracking. The system is expected to deliver a more
immersive gaming experience.

SWOT ANALYSIS

Strengths

S1: Leading video game brand

PlayStation is the world’s leading video gaming brand and a subsidiary of Sony

Entertainment. The video gaming brand has established a strong market leadership position

through online services, handheld devices, gaming consoles, and various gaming tools and

equipment. The PlayStation 2 was first released in 2000 in response to Sony's hugely popular

original PlayStation. The PS2 has become the best-selling video game console of all time. As

of May 2023, it had sold over 158 million units worldwide.

S2: Longevity of the brand (29 years)

The longevity of PlayStation has enabled Sony to cultivate a robust ecosystem that

encompasses hardware, software, community, and cultural significance. This strength not

only sustains PlayStation's position in the gaming market but also positions it for continued

success in the future.

S3: No. 1 in global revenues

Sony is the biggest video game company in the world. The Japanese electronics giant still

makes a big portion of its gaming revenue, with the PlayStation 5 which came out in 2020

and became the world’s most popular next-gen video game console. However, Sony also

produces many original video games for its console, such as the God of War or Spider-Man

series, which are made by the Sony-owned studio Santa Monica Studio and Insomniac

Games, respectively. The company’s handheld video game console, the PlayStation Vita,

contributed to Sony’s leading position in the gaming industry as well.

S4: Variety games to offer

The variety of games available on PlayStation platforms contributes to its strength by

appealing to diverse audiences, offering exclusive and third-party titles, showcasing indie

games, and continually expanding its game library. This variety ensures that PlayStation

remains a leading choice for gamers seeking a wide range of gaming experiences.

S5: Partnership with brands and celebrities

Sony's marketing strategy emphasizes its commitment to making the PlayStation brand

well-known by investing a lot in promotional activities. The company's slogan, "Play has no

limits" encapsulates the essence of its gaming philosophy and sets the tone for an aggressive

and boundary-pushing marketing strategy. Sony ensures a global presence through prominent

campaigns and exhibitions that capture the attention of audiences worldwide.

They collaborate with celebrities and brands:

To coincide with the debut of the PS5, Travis Scott and Nike teamed up with Playstation to

offer a special edition Nike Dunk to five lucky fans who won the raffle. Nike and Playstation

have a long history of collaborating to commemorate the release of new Playstation products.

The LeBron James Limited Edition DualSense wireless controller is the first ever

limited-edition PlayStation accessory co-designed with a cultural icon.

This Uniqlo’s collection takes inspiration from the iconic PlayStation game consoles that

have entertained people for decades. The various consoles and iconic shapes are depicted in

playful original line art and eye-catching graphic designs.

PlayStation has already established partnerships with other companies, such as Epic Games

and Microsoft, which can help the company to expand its reach and offer new gaming

experiences to users. Partnerships can also be a source of new revenue streams for

PlayStation. PlayStation can leverage its strengths and expertise by collaborating with other

companies to create new products and services to generate additional revenue.

S6: Utilizes e-commerce platforms

PlayStation started selling consoles on ecommerce platforms in September 2019. Sony

Interactive Entertainment launched an online store called "PS Direct" in the United States,
allowing customers to purchase PlayStation hardware and first-party games directly. This
move allowed PlayStation to sell its products directly to consumers without relying on
third-party retailers. Since then, PlayStation's online store has expanded to other regions,
providing a convenient way for customers to purchase consoles and accessories online.

S7: One of the best subscription service

First launched in 2010, PlayStation Plus is Sony’s subscription service which allows
PlayStation users to play online multiplayer. As of March 2023, the service had over 47.4
million subscribers, a decrease from its peak of 48 million subscriptions in December 2021.
In June 2022, Sony combined its PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now cloud gaming
services and the revamped PlayStation Plus service now features a three-tier subscription
model.

S8: Top gamer publish

Sony takes the crown with a staggering 85.6 average score, which is no surprise with the
previously-exclusive titles coming to PC, including God of War (2018) and Marvel's
Spider-Man Remastered, but also because of its sequel to its 2018 game of the year — and
2022 game-of-the-year nominee — God of War Ragnarok! Metacritic's criteria for its list was
based on average Metascore, a percentage of games with good review scores of 75 and
above, a percentage of games with bad review scores of 49% and below, and the number of
"great" games that managed to earn a Metascore of 90 or higher last year.

Weakness

W1: Supply chain issues

Delay in availability of PS5 due to supply chain issues have affected the market. A

semiconductor chip shortage limited Sony's production of new PS5 consoles. The PS5 has

had a difficult time reaching Sony’s audience as production issues and pandemic-related

shipping snarls limited its availability. The company released an updated edition of the PS5

console in October, making it more compact and power-efficient. “The result showed Sony

spent a lot on promotions to sell the PS5, as the unit’s profitability deteriorated, but the

number of units it shipped during the quarter was much weaker than expected,” said

Morningstar research director Kazunori Ito.

W2: Layoff of employees

Sony’s PlayStation has joined the long list of video game companies hit by layoffs in 2024.
Approximately 900 Sony Interactive Entertainment employees, or 8% of PlayStation’s global
workforce, will be impacted by the cuts, per outgoing-CEO Jim Ryan.

CEO Jim Ryan “ It is important to provide you with updates about the business as often as
possible. Today, I am writing with sad news. Through discussions over the past few months
about the evolving economic landscape, changes in the way we develop, distribute, and
launch products, and ensuring our organization is future ready in this rapidly changing
industry, we have concluded that tough decisions have become inevitable. The leadership
team and I made the incredibly difficult decision to restructure operations, which regrettably
includes a reduction in our workforce impacting very talented individuals who have
contributed to our success.

After careful consideration and many leadership discussions over several months, it has
become clear changes need to be made to continue to grow the business and develop the
company. We had to step back, look at our business holistically, and move forward focusing
on the long-term sustainability of the company and delivering the best experiences possible
for our community. The goal is to streamline our resources to ensure our continued success
and ability to deliver experiences gamers and creators have come to expect from us.

W3: Gender discrimination of Sony

Eight more women, former and current employees at Sony PlayStation, have added their

accounts of sexist treatment to a proposed class-action lawsuit against the gaming giant.

W4: PSVR2 Production pause

Sony reportedly paused production of the PlayStation VR2 headset to clear excess inventory.

This decision suggests that Sony may be facing challenges related to the demand and sales of

their virtual reality product.

W5: Overheating issue

Sony’s new PlayStation 5 has a smaller heatsink. Earlier this month, Sony quietly launched

the new PS5 model. Unfortunately, some gamers have claimed to be having some heating

issues.

W6: Game errors (crashing)

Brand new PS5 and the Ultimate edition of Diablo 4. The game keeps crashing at random

times. Some users have reported issues with the console crashing or experiencing errors when

entering or waking up from rest mode. There have been cases where PS5 (PlayStation 4)

discs are not being read or are having trouble ejecting from the console.

W7: Corrupted data on PS5

Despite receiving rave reviews from critics and regular consumers, the PS5 still has a few

issues that were present in Sony’s older consoles and one of them happens to be corrupted

data. There have been plenty of cases where consoles encountered saved data corruption for

the PS5, leaving owners anxious and angry. When the database is corrupt, you won't be able

to play any games with PS5. The "Corrupt data" error on a PS5 can occur due to various

reasons, such as a faulty hard drive, network issues, or incomplete downloads

W8: Hate and harassment in online games

Hate and harassment in gaming is now so pervasive that it has become the norm for
many players. An estimated 83 million of the 110 million online multiplayer gamers in the
U.S. were exposed to hate and harassment over the last six months. Three out of four young
people (ages 10-17) experience harassment when playing video games. And it continues to
grow and spread across generations of gamers, despite some movement toward countering
extremism and a growing trend of more aggressively tackling voice chat moderation
alongside the beginnings of transparency efforts by major companies. When players pick up
their phones or sit down at their PC or console, they now expect to experience hate-
antisemitism, racism, misogyny, homophobia and more on a regular basis.

Opportunities

O1: The rise of gaming across the globe

Gaming is becoming more widely used and being embraced in emerging and developing

markets. This increase in gaming is a boon for a company such as PlayStation, which has an

impressive distribution within the market. TechInsights published an article stating that in Q3

of 2023, total global game console shipments increased 11% year on year to 9.1 million,

making it the strongest third quarter since 2017. Prior to that, sales in the first two quarters of

this year increased by 32% and 19%, respectively

O2: Cross-Platform Play

With the increasing popularity of cross-platform gaming, there is an opportunity for Sony

PlayStation to collaborate with other gaming platforms to enable seamless gameplay

experiences across different devices. This can enhance the accessibility and social aspects of

gaming for players. Cross-platform gaming has been gaining popularity in recent years, and

it’s probable that this fashion will be preserved in 2023 and the past. The cross-platform

gaming fashion has been pushed by the growing call for greater flexible and reachable

gaming reviews, in addition to the increase of cloud gaming offerings that allow players to

access games from any device. The growing demand for cross-platform multiplayer games is

hard to ignore. Friends and family members want to play together online whether they play

games on their phones, PlayStation, Xbox, PC, or Nintendo Switch. Since 2018 the market

for quality cross-platform multiplayer games has exploded. In the last year alone, 87% of

multiplayer games played cross-platform.

O3:Exclusive Games

One of the key strengths of the PlayStation platform is its extensive library of exclusive
games. These games are only available on PlayStation consoles and cannot be played on
other gaming systems. The exclusivity of these games is a major draw for gamers looking for
unique and immersive gaming experiences that cannot be found elsewhere.

O4: Cheating and Exploits of Sony PlayStation

Recent updates to the PlayStation 5 have blocked the use of the Cronus Zen device. This
device, often used by cheaters to gain an unfair advantage in games, is no longer compatible
with the console following the 24.01-08.60.00 update for the PS5. The Cronus Zen, which is
often used to reduce recoil, set macros, and even trick the console into thinking a keyboard
and mouse are a controller, can no longer connect to the PS5. The blockage of Cronus Zen by
Sony aligns with actions taken by other gaming companies like Xbox, Activision Blizzard,
Ubisoft, Bungie, and Epic Games, who have all cracked down on unauthorized controllers,
accessories, and third-party hardware used for cheating in various games

O5: Environmental Impact

Sony, the creator of the PlayStation gaming console, has made a number of commitments to
address the environmental impact of their products and business activities. They aim to
promote environmental activities that are appropriate to their business and products, and they
are working to minimize the environmental impact of their products by assessing product
environmental impacts in research, development, and design. They are also promoting
product design and product recycling technologies with reduced environmental impacts.
PlayStation is part of the United Nations' Playing for the Planet Alliance, which is a
consortium of video gaming companies committed to taking action on climate change. Sony's
"Road to Zero" plan aims to achieve a zero environmental footprint throughout the life cycle
of their products and business activities by 2050. This includes goals to curb climate change,
conserve resources, and promote biodiversity. For the PlayStation 4, Sony has made progress
in avoiding 30 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions compared to the PlayStation 3 by
2030. For the PlayStation 5, they have introduced new energy-efficient technology that will
avoid an estimated 32,300 – 39,000 tonnes CO2 per year for every million consoles sold.

O6: Focus on emerging economies

Following efforts to expand its footprint in various Asian countries including China, South
Korea, and India, it looks like Sony’s gone shopping for PlayStation exclusives in Africa. As
reported by CNBC, Sony has invested an undisclosed sum of money into Carry1st — a studio
based in Cape Town, South Africa. Speaking to CNBC, Carry1st CEO and co-founder Cordel
Robbin-Coker said that Sony’s “strategic investment” into the studio is in its “exploratory
stages,” with the view to targeting an emerging video game market. “As large companies like
Sony that have really strong footholds in tier-one and tier-two markets start thinking about
where the next billion customers and gamers are going to come from, our pitch is that Africa
is a prime market for that,” Robbin-Coker said. He pointed out that gamers in countries like
Nigeria, Morocco, and Algeria are already buying consoles in gray markets. “Our hope is that
we can help [Sony] to expand their reach of PlayStation in the region and support them in a
range of ways,” he added.

O7: Collaboration with third-party developers

PlayStation collaborates with third-party game developers and publishers to bring exclusive

games to their platform. This partnership allows for a diverse range of games and experiences

for PlayStation users.PlayStation has a strong partnership with Naughty Dog, a renowned

game development studio. This collaboration has resulted in critically acclaimed exclusive

titles like the "Uncharted" series and "The Last of Us" series, which have been highly

successful and beloved by gamers.

PlayStation supports independent game developers through initiatives like PlayStation Indie,

which provides a platform for indie games to reach a wider audience. This investment in the

indie game development community fosters creativity and diversity in the gaming industry.

Sony currently has a number of major developers working under its banner, including the

likes of Naughty Dog, Insomniac, Guerilla Games, Sucker Punch, and Sony Santa Monica.

However, the major console manufacturer also makes significant deals with third-party

names to bring more yearly exclusives to the screen, publishing the work of studios like

Bluepoint Games, Sumo Digital, and Housemarque despite not officially owning them.

Threats

T1: Hacking Attempts

Sony Pictures was reportedly compromised by a group of North Korean hackers, in

retaliation for the release of the film The Interview. Information leaked included Sony’s

future film plans, as well as personal information about company employees. This leak

amounted to 100 terabytes of data. The PlayStation Network was also hacked in 2011,

resulting in 77 million user accounts being compromised.

T2: Cybersecurity Vulnerabilities

In 2023, Sony experienced a significant cyber attack that led to a three-day outage on the

PlayStation Network. This attack was later revealed to be the work of a ransomware group,

which claimed to have breached Sony's systems and allegedly put the stolen data up for sale.

T3: Account Compromises and Phishing

Ablaze with reports of a hack into Sony's PlayStation Network, with numerous media outlets

proclaiming that as many as 77 million customer accounts have been compromised.

Opportunities for phishing, cybercrime, and fraudulent credit card access appear to be greatly

enhanced by a breach of this magnitude.

T4: Massive Data Breach

Sony suffered a massive breach in its video game online network that led to the theft of

names, addresses and possibly credit card data belonging to 77 million user accounts in what

is one of the largest-ever Internet security break-ins. According to the data breach

notification, the compromise happened on May 28, three days before Sony learned from

Progress Software (the MOVEit vendor) about the flaw, but it was discovered in early June.

“On June 2, 2023, [we] discovered the unauthorized downloads, immediately took the

platform offline, and remediated the vulnerability,”

T5: Competition from rival brands

PlayStation faces competition from other gaming console brands, such as Xbox and

Nintendo. The introduction of new technologies and features by competitors can pose a threat

to PlayStation's market share and customer base. To stay ahead of the competition,

PlayStation must continually develop new technologies, games, and services that offer unique

features and benefits to gamers.

T6: Shift towards Mobile and Casual Gaming

The rise of mobile gaming and the increasing popularity of casual gaming experiences can
pose a threat to traditional console gaming, including PlayStation. Mobile devices offer
convenience and accessibility, allowing players to enjoy games on the go. PlayStation needs
to adapt to this changing landscape and find ways to appeal to mobile gamers or offer unique
experiences that cannot be replicated on mobile devices.

T7: Rising cost of raw materials

The global economic environment is a challenge that many of you around the world are no

doubt experiencing. We’re seeing high global inflation rates, as well as adverse currency

trends, impacting consumers and creating pressure on many industries. Based on these

challenging economic conditions, SIE has made the difficult decision to increase the

recommended retail price (RRP) of PlayStation 5 in select markets across Europe, Middle

East, and Africa (EMEA), Asia-Pacific (APAC), Latin America (LATAM), as well as

Canada. There will be no price increase in the United States.

T8: Liability Laws

Liability laws in different countries may expose PS to various liability claims given changes

in policies in those different markets. Sony PlayStation must face a mass lawsuit worth up to

6.3 billion pounds ($7.9 billion) over claims the PlayStation maker abused its dominant

position, leading to unfair prices for customers, a London tribunal ruled on Tuesday. Sony

Interactive Entertainment (SIE) was sued last year on behalf of nearly 9 million people in the

United Kingdom who had bought digital games or add-on content through Sony's PlayStation

Store. The claim alleges customers have therefore paid higher prices for games and add-on

content than they would have done.

T9: Strong competition with mobile gaming

There have been major moves in the gaming industry to bring heavy duty titles to

smartphones – a phenomenon most recently exemplified by iPhone’s big gaming push: A

major trigger for this push could be the sheer volumes of people who play on smartphones

and the almost ubiquitous presence of these devices. A survey of 48 international markets

reveals that mobile gaming is slightly more popular: 46% of gamers play on mobile devices,

compared to 40% on PC or consoles.

barriers for online services, expanding its digital market reach, and utilizing government
resources for digital transformation projects like cloud computing and digital payment
solutions, Sony may profit from these activities.

3. Protests and Pressure Groups

reputation.

4. Bureaucracy and Corruption

Operating in areas with high levels of corruption and bureaucracy presents difficulties such as
delayed license applications, problems with regulatory compliance, and uncertain legal
situations. Through the implementation of internal controls to reduce corruption risks, due
diligence on business partners, compliance with anti-corruption laws, and transparent
business practices, Sony must manage these difficulties. Smoother operations and regulatory
compliance can also be facilitated by establishing ties with government agencies and industry
regulators.

5. Regulations

Sony's business operations, product development, and market strategy are impacted by the
diverse regulatory environments that exist across different countries and industries. It's
crucial to cooperate with regulatory agencies, advocate for industry improvements, and stay
informed on regulatory developments. To preserve market access and customer trust, Sony
needs to make sure that its goods and services meet industry-specific requirements, safety
standards, quality certifications, and import/export laws.

6. Taxation, Trade Restrictions

management, pricing strategies, and profitability. It is essential to understand tax
implications, optimize tax arrangements, and use trade agreements to lower barriers to global

Business risks related to political instability, such as rapid governmental changes, protests, or
geopolitical conflicts, are reduced by operating in politically stable countries. By growing its
business, making long-term investments, and developing relationships with regional
stakeholders, Sony may profit from stable markets. A predictable corporate environment that
is favorable to expansion, investment, and sustainable company practices is encouraged by
political stability.

10. International Relations

Political relationships between countries can affect Sony's global operations. Trade

effectively. Adapting to regulatory changes and trade dynamics ensures Sony maintains its
market access and competitiveness. Moreover, monitoring political events and consumer
sentiment helps Sony fine-tune its marketing strategies and strengthen customer engagement.

stimulus packages, can influence Sony PlayStation's operations and financial performance.
Adapting to evolving economic policies requires strategic planning and risk management to
mitigate potential disruptions.

9. Labor Market Conditions

Economic factors also extend to labor market conditions, including unemployment rates,
wage growth, and trends in the workforce. These factors can impact Sony's workforce
planning, operational costs, and talent acquisition strategies. Understanding labor market
dynamics helps Sony manage human resources effectively.

10. Consumer Debt Levels

The purchasing behavior of consumers, particularly the acquisition of discretionary goods

like gaming consoles, can be influenced by economic factors such as credit availability and
debt levels. In order to target the appropriate audience demographics with its marketing
