NOTES TO STUDENTS AS A GUIDE TO PROJECT WRITING
1. Abstract should be in a single line spacing. Third person reporting in one block paragraph
2. Font: Times New Roman, 12 pt or 14pt, 1.5 line spacing, justified.
3. APA style must be used for citation and referencing throughout.
4. No bulleting, only numbering where necessary and details of the write-up should be in
prose form.
5. Follow the approved Departmental format below for the presentation of your write-up.
6. Carefully read through your write-up. Avoid copying without careful paraphrasing and
editing. Even at that, acknowledge author(s) by using double quotation marks “ “.
7. Do not use …et al unless you had previously cited all the authors and authors must be
above 5 (APA 7th edition).
8. Contents in sub sections must not be on bold.
9. The required number of pages should not be more than 40 pages.
10. Do not bullet or number your references. Follow APA style strictly. That is hanging. Also
italization of the book or journal title.
11. Your chapter 3 must contain the method, materials, diagrams, database tables etc, DFD or
flowchart. It should also contain designs of major interfaces of the software including
input, output and database interfaces.
12. Your chapter 2 must follow your objectives and or research questions (if any). That is
your review should be done in line with your objectives.
13. Your chapter 1 between background of study and statement of the problem must contain
at least 5 citations properly referenced with authors name and year. For example: Ebaji
(2020) stated that “ND 2 students are very stubborn” or “ND 1 students are great” (Ibor,
2021).
14. No referencing should exceed year 2000. If any, use ‘as cited in …’
15. Your chapter 4 should include the analysis and discussion of results.
16. Read works on how to present discussion on scope, justification and related literature.
17. The aim of the project must reflect the topic while the objectives must be achievable and
measurable and must be stated using action verbs beginning with ‘To’.
18. Your appendices must contain screenshots of your output results, program code listing
and any other such details not originally in the body of the work.
19. Note that your write-up must be speaking to your software. That is, whatever is written,
must be captured and demonstrated in the software.
20. Figures and tables must be numbered accordingly and listed in the list of tables and
figures in the preliminary pages after the table of contents.
21. Work with your supervisors. The time is far spent. Visit the Department and consult
previous projects. Download projects in pdf from the internet and compare with your
write-up.
