Introduction

One of the concerns we have in life is health issues, particularly in the rainy seasons. Changes in
the weather make it more likely for us to catch illnesses like the flu, fever, cough, and other illnesses to
spread. We can get these because of the environment, foods and also from insects, like mosquito.

In many regions of the world, mosquitoes constitute a serious issue. They are regarded as a
nuisance, and because of the potential for worse outcomes, the harm they cause should not be ignored.
Among the pests that are regarded as damaging are termites. It also destroys crops and wooden
structures (Kim et al.,2015).Mosquitoes usually found in environments with standing water. They have
more places to deposit their evgs and access to fresh water because of the rain.Mosquito bites can
cause skin irritation, however, a more dangerous outcome of some mosquito bites could be the spread
of dangerous illnesses and viruses including west nile virus, dengue virus, malaria, zika, and also
chikungunya, which can lead to disabling and potentially deadly effects.

Most of the time, chemical repellents are used to ward off mosquitoes; hence, using this type of
repellent might have numerous adverse effects, such as allergies, and it may not be affordable for some
individuals. Therefore, there are plenty of substitutes available, such organic repellents.Various plant
products serve as the most effective substitutes for controlling mosquito populations since they have
been observed to be effective as the chemical repellants to kill larvae or adult mosquitoes or as
repellents to prevent mosquito bites.Compared to chemical repellents, organic repellents are safer,
more affordable, and easier to utilize.

Neem (Azadirachta indica) is a possible plant species that may contain significant concentrations
of active compounds and has been utilized for large-scale pest management at a low cost. The limonoid
chemicals found in neem have been demonstrated to be harmful to a wide range of insects, mites, and
nematodes, with effects ranging from antifeeding to repellence, oviposition and growth inhibition, and
contact toxicity. These biological processes have the potential to be effective in temicidal applications
(Himmi et al., 2013).

According to Singha & Pandey (2018),the genus Mentha belongs to the Lamiaceae family, and its
essential oils have been used for a long time in traditional medicine, food preparation, cosmetics, and
the control of plant diseases and insect pests. Some of its main chemical constituents, like carvone and
menthol, have since been effectively marketed as antimicrobials and insecticidal agents in the business.

Since plants are a rich source of bioactive phytochemicals that are safe and biodegradable into
byproducts that are not poisonous and can be evaluated for insecticidal and mosquito-repelling
properties, interest in plant-based repellents has increased recently. Numerous research have
demonstrated the ability of plant extracts or essential oils to repel malaria vectors worldwide. The goal
of the current systematic review was to identify plant-based repellents that are safe for humans to use
and that offer consistent, long-lasting protection against Anopheles mosquito species (Asadollahi et al.,
2019).

Mosquito-free environments can provide us with an unimaginable sense of convenienceas well as

candles, which are used in homes and churches mostly for their soothing impacts.Burning candles keeps
insects away since they have insecticidal properties, therefore scented candles with neem oil and mint
extract can also give us a sense of protection against mosquitoes.

Considering all of the claims mentioned above, the main objective of these study is to use
extracted oil from neem, and mint extract to make scented candle repellent against mosquitoes, to
lessen their population and health issues cused by mosquitoes

Statement of the problem

•What are the output that are going to as mosquito candle repellent?

a. Neem

b. Mint

•What components of neem leaves and mint leaves can repell/control mosquitoes?

• How long will it take to kill a mosquito using nNeem and mint candle repellent?

•Does the neem and mint candle repellent exhibit insecticide activity against mosquito?

•How long does the candle repellent last?

Significance of the study

To the Community. Natural repellents can be sourced locally, providing low- income communities with
a cost-effective and easily accessible solution.

To the Citizens. By employing these candle insect repellents, citizens can reduce the spread of
mosquitoes and the diseases they carry.

To the Environment. The environment will be better due to the perception of plants as a secure and
reliable method of preventing mosquito bites, with a natural-smelling repellents.

Future Researchers. The findings of this study will offer reliable data to support future researchers
planning to conduct similar research into the mosquito-repelling properties of mint and neem leaves.
Scope and delimitation

This study limits its coverage on the effectiveness of neem and mint as candle repellent against against
mosquitoes.Since the study is limited to neem and mint leaves as a candle repellent, other parts are not
utilized in this study

Hypothesis

There is an insecticidal activity of neem (Azadirachta indica) and mint (Mentha) candle repellent againts
the mosquitoes
