Project management is the application of specific knowledge, skills, tools, and
strategies to ensure that a project meets its requirements.

Project managers must possess specific skills and abilities in order to effectively
execute projects. According to Jamie Birt the essential skills that every project
manager should have are;
1. Leadership:The ability to effectively perform this skill is of utmost importance as

existence of many duties that must be accomplished within a certain timeframe.
Project managers bear the responsibility of efficiently assigning tasks to ensure
timely completion of the project within the given deadline.

managers as it enables them to efficiently convey messages to both clients and

communicate their vision, goals, ideas, and concerns. Additionally, project
managers are required to provide presentations and reports to properly
communicate project-related information.
4. Ability to influence others: The ability to persuade is an essential skill for project
managers, as it plays a crucial role in all stakeholder interactions.
5. Negotiation skills: In order to fulfill their responsibilities, a project manager must
possess the ability to effectively engage in negotiations with suppliers, clients,
and other relevant parties.
6. Conflict management: The ability to effectively resolve conflicts holds significant
importance for project managers, as it is crucial for maintaining efficient team
performance and promoting successful teamwork among team members.
7. Planning skills: Planning is the fundamental element of project management,
while scheduling is the primary duty of project managers. An successful project

controlling project expenditures. Effective budget management allows the project
manager to anticipate future costs and allocate funds appropriately.
9. Problem Solving: The primary skill of a project manager is in their ability to
gather information, carefully evaluate the advantageous aspects and
disadvantages, and subsequently develop best solutions to problems. This ability
helps with the development of a logical and organized approach to problem-
solving.
10. Active thinking: Developing critical thinking abilities is crucial for project
managers as it entails thinking in a different manner, maintaining an unbiased
perspective, and approaching situations with an open mind.

As a project manager, it is essential to assess the strengths and limitations of each

team member and put together a team that can efficiently complete a task. Wayne
Tuckman The five stages of development are specified as follows:

fundamental aspects of their roles. Productivity is tend to slow, since team
members are still becoming comfortable with their responsibilities.
b) Storming: During this stage, team members engage in a competition to get
acceptability for their ideas and various other factors. Due to different ideas
among individuals, conflict frequently arises during this stage. This stage
typically ends when team members acknowledge and comprehend each other's
strengths and weaknesses, as well as grasp the requirements for effective
teamwork.
c) Norming: During this phase, the team members commence working together.
Despite their current lack of collaborative work, they are actively striving to
create an efficient system that will accommodate everyone. Team members
align their efforts towards shared objectives and cooperate to achieve them.
d) Performing: At this moment, the team operates with exceptional proficiency.
The team demonstrates strong a partnership since they have developed a
comprehensive understanding of each other's individual strengths and
weaknesses, promoting dependence among team members.
e) Adjourning:This step marks the commencement of the team's dissolution. Team
members engage in introspection over their performance and engage in dialogue
regarding their collective experience.

Question 2
What is a stakeholder
A stakeholder refers to an individual, group, or entity that has a significant interest or
interest in the decision-making and operation of a business, organization, or project.
Stakeholders may consist of individuals who are either employed with the
organization they have a stake in or have no formal relationship with it (Nick
Barney,2022)
Effective stakeholder management
Business involves the management of both positive and negative relationships. As a
project manager, it is crucial to develop a strong relation with your stakeholders.
Bart Lambert (March 2022) discusses four advantages of stakeholder management
as follows:
1. Better understanding of project stakeholder: This approach enables a project
manager to identify, analyze, and measure stakeholders based on their quantity
of interest and influence.
2. Better understanding of project risk: Every project or change naturally carries its
own set of risks. It is crucial to have a thorough understanding of these risks.
Certain risks may rise over the duration of the project, which emphasises the
importance of thoroughly analyzing them. This may be implemented by keeping
open channels of communication with stakeholders throughout the project.
3. More effective management of stakeholders expectations: All stakeholders hold
expectations for your company's project. Improper management of
stakeholders can pose a risk to a project. It is important to take the time to
understand your stakeholders and ensure they have a clear understand of your
project. This will enable you to build an effective management strategy.
4. Stakeholder satisfaction and possibly a competitive edge: While it is not always
possible to satisfy every stakeholder during a project, creating early involvement
and maintaining consistent communication with stakeholders helps foster trust
among those who have the ability to influence the project's result. If your
stakeholders view that you are attentive to their demands and concerns, and that
you are actively engaging in communication with them, they are more likely to be
willing to open up to your proposed project.
