We are living in a dark moment in history. The shamans of old prophesied this time and announced the
end of an era and the end of humanity as we know it. These sages foretold the dawn of a new human
and a new chapter in the history of our species. They described a gigantic leap in which we would be
challenged to become a new human that ages, heals, and dies differently.
During this time, we have to bring new light to our personal and collective shadows to raise our con-
sciousness to create a better world for ourselves, our children, and all creatures on Earth. We are
straddling the darkness at the end of an age and the dawn of a new one. We must remain focused so
that we can become the calm center of the storm and remain connected with our vision of a possible
future. You will learn the practices of journeying to heal the dark legacy of your ancestors, the shamanic
protection techniques including cutting toxic energetic cords, tracking skills, and ceremonies to shed
light onto our dark side. Reaching beyond our comfort zones we will travel to the Lower World, the roots
of our most private wounds, to retrieve the parts of ourselves that we have lost and to find the gifts
of our ancestors. We employ meditation techniques from Tibetan Buddhism and breathwork from Yoga
to cultivate the practices of stillness and fearlessness. We learn about timelessness and how we can
dream the world into being, retrieving our own destiny and the destiny of our planet.

THE SHAMAN’S ART
OF PSYCHIC SELF DEFENSE
MODULE 1
THE SHAMAN’S ART
OF PSYCHIC SELF DEFENSE
The first is that nothing that needs to hide in the dark has any authentic power of its own. Our
shadows are solely fed by our own fear, as well as the collective fear of humanity. To reclaim the
power of these shadows, we need to cultivate fearlessness. The second principle is that we live
in a benign universe and that evil exists, but not as an independent principle in the cosmos. It
only exists in the hearts of men and women. The universe will conspire on your behalf if you are
in right relationship with it. You learn about tools and protections that are used to come back
into right relationship, enabling us to evolve into a new consciousness free from the predatory
and violent history of humanity.

1
THE WAY OF
THE SHAMAN
The effects of war, oppression, illness, climate disaster, and possible extinction seem to swirl around us
as we travel together on this life journey. We have awakened to a world, both familiar and unfamiliar
in intensity, and find that we are in a great collective grieving process. We are challenged to become
more resilient in responding to our calling for creating a new world, one that has the potential to break
free of the nightmare of the past. We are the ones we have been waiting for, the ones who can replace
anger with healing and despair with hope. To make this leap into our becoming we must shed the way
the dark history of humanity lives within us.
EXERCISE:
EVENING FIRE CEREMONY
We invite you to develop your own practice of fire ceremony throughout this course. Every evening
before going to sleep, use your Death Arrow and blow the topic you want to release into the stick. Hold
the stick into the fire and place the burning stick in a fireproof container, allowing it to burn down fully.

THE CONCEPT
OF EVIL
2
THE CONCEPT
OF EVIL
In this lecture we shed light onto the concept of evil from the perspective of Western psychology and
Eastern philosophy. Bridging the two, we can understand the mechanism of the shadow on a personal
and collective level. Judeo-Christian mythology suggests the existence of an independent evil principle,
but according to the shamanic cosmology, nothing that needs to hide in the dark has an authentic
power of its own. Evil exists only in the hearts of men and women and what gives evil its power is our
fear. When we practice fearlessness, we stop turning our demons into enemies and start turning them
into allies.
EXERCISE:
BREATHING MEDITATION TO RESET YOUR FIGHT-OR-FLIGHT SYSTEM
In the beginning there was the breath, and that breath is a bridge. It is a fluid place that moves our
nervous system from the sympathetic into the parasympathetic, from the fight-or-flight system into
deep relaxation. We are freed from fight-or-flight and we go into a heightened state of awareness, a
state where deep healing can take place.
Sit in a comfortable position that enables your spine to be straight. Close your eyes and center yourself
by letting your breath become more relaxed. Bring your hands to your heart center with the palms
touching each other and set your intention for the practice. Inhale to the count of three, hold the breath
for a moment and exhale to a count of five. Hold the breath empty and start over again by inhaling
to the count of three. Repeat for several minutes and if you feel comfortable begin extending your
exhalations to five and eventually seven seconds. After a few minutes return back to a regular breath.
Practice this breathing exercise every morning throughout this course for about 5 minutes. Notice any
difference in your physical, mental, or emotional states.

RELATIONSHIP

COMING INTO RIGHT
RELATIONSHIP
The masculine theology dominating western culture has devastated our earth and severed our
relationship with spirit. We can see the effects of such a theology throughout history and how it shapes
our reality today.
When we are in the right relationship (Ayni) we can transform our wounds and traumas into sources of
power; we can shed our past, so it no longer defines us, or our futures. We can be in Ayni with all living
beings and nature, and have love be the operating principle in life. Our eyes begin to open to true reality
and we slowly awake as luminous beings.
EXERCISE:
KEEPING A DREAM JOURNAL
Reflect on how the shadow represents itself to you. Pay special attention to your dreams and when you
do remember them andwrite down the stories that unfold in your subconscious mind. Whether they are
full of exciting novel plots or manifestations of your daily anxieties, keeping track of your dreams can
reveal thoughts, ideas, and emotions our unconscious minds hide from our awareness. Journaling about
your dreams is a way of making the unconscious conscious, shedding light onto the dark.

ENGAGEMENT

THE FOUR LEVELS OF
ENGAGEMENT
A shaman knows that creation happens at four different levels. There is the level of the body, or physical
world, the level of the mind, the level of the soul, and the level of the spirit. Western medicine works
at the level of the body, or matter. When a disease or illness appears, a doctor works to cure it with a
specific chemical remedy. Shamans, however, work at the spirit level. At spirit level, we are working with
pure energy within the Luminous Energy Field (LEF). If we can work energetically, and clear imprints of
the disease from the LEF, we can prevent the disease from occurring. Working at the energetic level
changes the health of the body, and the future. Understanding the four levels of perception lets us
change our own reality and our own destiny.
EXERCISE:
IDENTIFYING YOUR PROJECTIONS
Make a list of three people that you do not like. These people can be people that are close to you
or public figures. Find three qualities about each one that describes what you don’t like about them.
Contemplate these judgments as the projections of your own shadow.

THE FOUR LEVELS OF
TRANSFORMATION
5
THE PATH OF
TRANSFORMATION
Right now, we exist in an extremely chaotic, stressful, and scary time, where many people are suffering,
and disease and illness are rampant. To function as a shaman, we must protect ourselves from these
variables. You learn about the tools of protection that the shaman employs and how the best way to
protect ourselves is by healing ourselves. When we are healed—when we have learned lesson upon
lesson from our stories—we are not negatively affected by whatever is occurring around us, and we
cannot remain unconscious to what is occurring around us. It is our task as shamans to create an area
where great healing and transformation can occur.
EXERCISE:
CULTIVATING A REGULAR FORMAL MEDITATION PRACTICE
Research has shown that meditation results in longer telomeres, the end-caps of chromosomes that
protect the integrity of DNA and determine health and longevity. Many of us have tried to meditate but
stopped when we become bored or frustrated. Try resting your mind on a single point or object of focus.
If you are new to meditation, start by meditating 10 minutes per day.
Sit in a darkened room with a small candle lit before you. As you gaze at the candle, note that your
awareness is like the flame, darting here and there, blown first in one direction and then another.
Invite your mind to be the observer as you focus on your in-breath. Find the space at the top of the
breath where the lungs are comfortably full and pause there for an instant, silently saying “I am…”
As you exhale, notice how your breath stirs the flame ever so slightly. Release all the air in your lungs,
and at the bottom of the breath, pause for an instant and silently say “...My breath.”
Continue the exercise for five minutes. As you become more comfortable sitting still, you will gradually
increase the duration of your inhalation and your exhalation.

A RIVER TREMBLES WITH FEAR.
SHE LOOKS BACK AT THE PATH SHE HAS TRAVELED,

THE RIVER CANNOT GO BACK.
NOBODY CAN GO BACK.
TO GO BACK IS IMPOSSIBLE IN EXISTENCE.
THE RIVER NEEDS TO TAKE THE RISK

MODULE 2
SERPENT
SHEDDING THE DEATH WITHIN YOU
We know that the health and wellness of each one of us depend upon the health of the entire
earth. This includes all people of all races and ethnic backgrounds, all plants and animals,
and all of life. How can we continue to be resilient when it seems that events are reaching
critical mass, that everyone around us seems to be overwhelmed and disillusioned, depressed,
discouraged, and angry? In this module, we recognize that we are not the result of our personal
history and learn to let go of these stories like a serpent sheds her skin.
You also learn about the four ways we harm ourselves and others and how to track for imprints
of sorcery or black magic in the Luminous Energy Field. You discover how the worst kind of
sorcery is the one that we do to ourselves, and how to prevent this form of toxic self-sabotage.
You gain an understanding of generational curses and how to rewrite our contracts with Spirit,
in order to make peace with our ancestors so we are able to create new maps for our destiny.
You learn how to make a Seguro - a blend of herbs and spices that are the shaman’s protection.
The Opening of Wiracocha creates extraordinary protection while calling on the Four Directions
puts us in an impenetrable space inviting only the highest frequencies in.

THE LEVEL OF
THE SERPENT
As one of the things each and every one of us must deal with, the more comfortable we are with the
idea of and approach to death, the more freedom we experience. Once we have released death within
us, we are free to select our own destiny. In order to release death, we must track it within ourselves.
Once you have tracked the death that has been selected for you, you must release it to empty the
vessel that is your self, to make space for your new destiny. The Death Fire Ceremony allows you to do
so by committing your preordained death to the cleansing flame.

PREPARING A
SEGURO
Seguro translates to “something that is safe or sure”. A Seguro is a tool you can use, though really more
like an ally, to create safety and security. A shaman will gather a variety of oil, waters, herbs, and various
ingredients that shall be part of the Seguro and bless them with prayer and ceremony on the mesa
before combining them in a bottle. Seguros should be kept in a sacred place and treated with great care
as it is powerful healing medicine and can be used for many things.
EXERCISE:
CREATING A SEGURO
Make your own Seguro, following your intuition and finding what protective and power plants and oils
you are called to. Invite Spirit to guide you in this process for each ingredient and the brewing process.
The Kawak Rite, or Seer’s Rite, can assist us in training ourselves to perceive more of the world of energy
that we live in. They are felt to enhance our connections with the universal lineage of the seers – the
‘kawaks’ – those throughout time and lands, who have worked with their perceiving of energy – that
can see what there is to be seen. The actions of the rites are to create an energy pathway, similar to a
meridian pathway, from the third eye energy center in the forehead to the visual cortex, and from the
heart energy center to the visual cortex. This awakens the inner seer and your ability to perceive the
invisible world of energy and Spirit.
EXERCISE:
QUESTION FOR SELF REFLECTION
After watching this video, reflect on the effects of the transmission of the Seer’s Rite. For some, this
increased awareness/perception of energy is predominantly perceived visually, while for some people
energy is perceived kinaesthetically, through the sense of feeling.

CURSES

GENERATIONAL
CURSES
Curses are not just ill-wishes we receive from people who desire to harm us. They can also be inherited
from our ancestors, who made contracts with Spirit. These generational curses can manifest on all 4
levels of engagement: physically, on the serpent level, emotionally, on the jaguar level, sacred/mythically,
on the hummingbird level, or energetically on the level of the eagle. There are two general approaches
to healing a generational curse. Either through the Illumination Process or through the path of fire or
tantra, i.e. the transformative path. After we burn these contracts, however, we must come up with a
new sacred agreement. The shaman’s way of taking the fire path means conducting a fire ceremony:
releasing everything you need to release about a particular theme that runs intergenerationally that
you know about into the flame.
EXERCISE:
IDENTIFYING GENERATIONAL CURSES
Identify a theme that runs intergenerationally in your family that you know about. Perform a fire ceremony
to release that story, speaking the theme out loud. Look for where this imprint is manifested in your
energy field. Experience what the new agreement with spirit is. Turn this agreement into an affirmation
and speak it out loud.

JOURNEYING TO THE
HALL OF SOULS
Another way to heal the generational curse is to journey to the Hall of Souls. During journeying, you’ll
imagine your luminous body descending into the Lower World, where you’ll meet the gatekeeper of the
domains of the soul. This is a being, who guards the entryway to the unconscious, an archetype known
by different names in different cultures. The Inka know the gatekeeper as Huascar (“the one who brings
together”), who is symbolically portrayed as a rope or vine that links the Lower and Middle Worlds.
When you journey to the Lower World, you must call out to the gatekeeper, asking for permission to
enter and also for guidance. This luminous archetype will escort you and provide counsel during your
journey. Once you have arrived, you will be able to summon ancestors to find out what they need, so
the curse can be released and the relation can be healed.

Like all energetic imprints that affect our LEF, also curses can and need to be tracked. In doing so, you
will be able to find out what the underlying and operating agreements of your curses are, as they stem
from contracts with Spirit that our ancestors made. As a final step to healing a generational curse, we
must visit the Chamber of Contracts. This journey must begin with stillness and must be conducted
with the beginner’s mind, in order to be able to see clearly and retrieve the desired insight.
EXERCISE:
UNFOLDING YOUR MYTHIC MAP
Start by opening your Wiracocha and set your intention for this practice. Write a short story that begins
with: “Once upon a time…”. The story should have a warrior or warrioress, a prince or a princess, and a

JAGUAR
TREASURES OF THE UNKNOWN
The shadow includes the sides of our personality that we believe to be inappropriate, negative,
or socially undesirable traits. Due to deep insecurity, we reject these parts of ourselves and
suppress feelings of anger, envy, or even lust. The shadow also holds our greatest gifts, our
deepest beauty, and treasures that we are equally terrified of. By splitting off these parts of
ourselves, we lose much of our joy in life. Ultimately, we do not live our lives authentically.
To become whole, we have to explore every aspect of ourselves and own the disowned beauty
and terrifying wisdom that live in the shadow realm. This is the medicine of the Jaguar—to
expose the shadows for what they really are and transform them into gifts. We learn to release
and honor the energies of our ancestors and learn the rites of passage that allow us to gain
maturity, wisdom, and inner peace.

THE JAGUAR
1
THE LEVEL OF
THE JAGUAR
Embracing a beginner’s mind requires us to let go of our preconceived notions. Our lives become much
simpler when we aren’t weighed down by the baggage of our stories and expectations. The Laika say
that this is when we are able to walk in the snow without leaving tracks. We stop being jaded, and
instead open ourselves up to the opportunities presented to us. Innocence and spontaneity infuse
our lives again, and we lose the attitude of “been there, done that.” Not that we forget our years of
experience,we simply don’t confuse what we learned yesterday with what we’re discovering today. At
the level of jaguar, we practice beginner’s mind by chucking limiting beliefs about scarcity, abundance,
intimacy, and self-worth. Ultimately, we realize that every belief is limiting, and we toss them all into the
recycling bin. We then develop a hypothetical relationship with the world, testing every notion we have
for its usefulness. We understand that “believing is seeing,” and that the universe will validate every
belief we hold about the nature of reality.

REWRITING
THE CONTRACTS
The childhood fears, anger, suffering, and feelings of abandonment encoded in our neural networks cause
us to repeat the underlying themes of these memories, even if we don’t recall the events themselves.
And this is what it means to have a generational curse; you keep repeating family patterns, which wind
up showing themselves as illness in the body and mind. To rid yourself of this burden, it is possible to
go on a guided journey to the Lower World, where you will meet its gatekeeper, Huascar. Here you will
be able to summon your ancestors to learn about your generational curses. Through this meeting, you
will be able to rewrite the contracts that those previous generations made with Spirit to match your
own needs and life course.

RETURNING TO
THE GREAT MOTHER
The masculine theology dominating Western culture has devastated our earth, and severed our
relationship with Spirit. We can see the effects of such a theology throughout history and how it
shapes our reality today. Ancient theologies that recognize the power of the divine feminine tell of a
harmonious relationship with the earth and Spirit. On this journey, you’ll learn that you can visit a sacred
garden, a personal Eden in the belly of Mother Earth. As you do so, you’ll reestablish your connection to
the Great Mother and the feminine. You’ll imagine yourself entering into the earth and traveling down
into this sacred garden, washed in sunlight and surrounded by fragrant blossoms and streams. You may
visit your personal Eden as often as you like for renewal and healing. As a path to journey to the Great
Mother and reconnect with nature, you will learn the Ceremony of the Beloved.
EXERCISE:
FIRE CEREMONY OF THE BELOVED
Installation of the Bands of Power is a shamanic protection that allows you to be more present and
available for life, instead of squandering your energy in fear, doubt or worry. Five energy belts are woven
into your luminous energy field (LEF) for protection. They act as filters, breaking down any negative
energies that come toward you into one of the five elements (earth, air, fire, water and light) feeding
your LEF, instead of allowing those energies to make you sick. Bands of Power, or Bands of Protection,
are one of the many permission slips (tools or techniques) we, as shamans, can accept to upgrade an
individual’s luminous energy fields and begin anchoring their higher dimensional selves and activating
their rainbow Light Bodies.
EXERCISE:

As we make our way through the world on our journey to the stars, we are likely to encounter many
inhibiting energies and even attacks that we must learn to defend ourselves against. By learning to
keep the stance of the Luminous Warrior, we learn an effective way to navigate these challenges, as the
Luminous Warrior has no enemies in this world or the next. In this process, we will come to understand
how to turn the Bands of Power into a light shield. When the Bands of Power are firmly installed your
LEF can become impenetrable. We must still be weary of psychic attacks, as there are instances in
which our luminous immune system doesn’t recognize certain energies as being foreign. These psychic
attacks create energetic cords that connect to chakras or organs. As shamans, we must identify these
connections and sever them through forgiveness and gratitude and finally cutting the cords with our
shamanic tools.

ENERGETIC CORDS
In order to cut energetic cords created by psychic attacks, we must first track them. Once we understand
which chakras or organs they are attached to, we can use our Wiracocha and our knife to remove this
cord, which might drain a client’s vitality. This procedure can also be used to remove crystalized (solid)
energies found in the body. After a cord is cut, it must be sealed, to avoid it becoming reconnected.
Removing these energies can bring great relief to a client who is experiencing physical pain.

BECOMING WHOLE AGAIN
MODULE 4
HUMMINGBIRD
BECOMING WHOLE AGAIN
When this happens, our destiny is derailed, and we fall into the grip of fate. And the problem
with fate is that it is preordained. We are no longer free and become victims of our genetics or
our karma, or the tragic stories from our childhood. In this module, you learn how to step into
infinity to fix things before they are born. Just as a hunter is able to track a deer through the
forest, you learn to track into the past to discover an ancient wound that needs to be healed
today. Or to the future to find a healed state that can reach back like a giant hand and guide
your client to the health and wellbeing they seek.
In module 4 we also examine our fear of death—whether death of the body, a way of thinking,
a relationship, a situation, or a dream. It must be experienced fully and consciously and then
overcome for new, healthy growth to take place. We master our fear of death when we
understand that our nature is transtemporal (outside of time) and undying, continuing for all
eternity. Our understanding of our eternal nature cannot be merely an intellectual one. It must
be a visceral awareness, a knowing at a cellular level. Whether or not you consciously invite
death in a rite of initiation, mastering the fear of death is immensely liberating.

THE LEVEL OF
THE HUMMINGBIRD
Oftentimes we forget that we are interconnected, that separation and isolation are contrary to our
divine nature, and conformity leads to soul sickness. We are mapmakers of the soul and we map in the
state known as hummingbird, at the level of the mythic. Instead of following an old map handed to us
by our culture, family, and karma we instead choose to create a new and bigger one that satisfies the
longing of our soul. The shamans refer to the old map as the silver book and the new as the gold book.
This gold book has blank pages ready for us to write our own story, created from our inner divine nature.
What story are you creating?

Shamans differentiate between information and wisdom: Information is knowing that water is H2O, and
wisdom is knowing how to make it rain. Western culture tends to be focused on sharing information,
while the shamanic tradition puts a strong emphasis on making sure this information is accompanied
with wisdom. On the same note, if we treat false information as real, it can still affect us as if it is real.
The way we look at information can entirely change our understanding of it and its relevance to us. To
fully grasp reality, we must understand that there are four levels of perception, that reflect each of the
archetypes.

THE JOURNEY
BEYOND DEATH
The shamans were the cartographers of the domains of the soul. This domain is divided into an Upper,
Middle, and Lower World. By following the ancient map, you can journey to explore the realms of the
Upper World. For the Laika, the Upper World consists of five planes: The Level of the Stone People, The
Level of the Plant People, The Level of the Animal Spirits, The Level of Ancestors, and The Level of the
Highest. This week we’ll delve into the first two.
EXERCISE:
QUESTION FOR SELF-REFLECTION
Journal about your experience with the Journey to the Upper World. Reflect on your journey looking
through all four lenses of the levels of perception.
THE FIVE PLANES
OF THE UPPER WORLD
One of the big challenges of self-healing and taking the stance of the luminous warrior is that many
of the toxic behaviors or relations we engage in are extremely seductive. They are usually things we
enjoy or that have some appeal, making us choose such paths or karmic loops over and over. These
traps are a kind of black magic. They can often even take the appearance of a dream, but then turn
into a nightmare. They often promise safety and/or love, affection, recognition, status, but truly keep us
locked in a place of unfulfillment.
We all have an inner map, in which we have laid out an emotional landscape, and that can guide us and
keep us from danger. Craft a map that is leading towards the sacred, rather than the mundane, and
make sure that this map is personal to you: What is it you really want?
EXERCISE:
DRAWING YOUR MYTHIC MAP
Draw or paint a personal map of your hero’s journey. Take your time to go into detail. When you’re done,
reflect on the map from the mythic perspective. What are your contracts with Spirit? Can you find any
traps or karmic loops? How can you rewrite the contracts to create your new mythic map?

THE ATTITUDE OF THE LUMINOUS WARRIOR
The power to create is what awakens and supports our divine nature, a power that we all
have, but that we are largely unaware of. Ordinarily, it comes from our dark shadow side and
it is projected unconsciously onto the world. Our fears turn into self-fulfilling prophecies; our
worst-case scenarios become true. The shaman understands that everything we call reality
is a projection of an internal map that we carry about the world. It has no inherent trueness
of its own. It is only true because you believe it to be so. That means that you don’t need to
change the world. You only need to change the map and the world changes. When this process
becomes conscious, we call it “dreaming the world into being”. The shaman’s act is an act of
wisdom, of changing the map and witnessing it express itself in the world.

THE PRACTICE OF
NON-DOING
1
THE PRACTICE OF
NON-DOING
We practice non-doing by immersing ourselves in the flow of the universe, receiving and working with
the opportunities it presents to us, rather than struggling to get everyone and everything to go along
with our plans. Non-doing means that rather than pushing and battling, we live in the light of love,
creativity, and possibility; and we allow things to unfold as we surrender to the intelligence of the
universe, trusting in its benevolence and abundance. We practice non-doing by taking up residence
in the level of Eagle, where we cease to exist as separate from Spirit. Here, there is no longer a doer;
things simply happen.
EXERCISE:
PRACTICE NON-DOING
The practice of non-doing doesn’t require us to spend our lives on a remote mountaintop. There are
things we all need to do in order to survive and keep our communities vibrant. But we don’t have to take
up residence in the “kingdom of do” and become possessed by our obligations.
Try cultivating your own unimportance. Sometimes we get caught up in the hustle and bustle because
we love to feel our own importance. We convince ourselves that if we don’t stay busy, something awful
will happen. Our constant activity also makes it easier for us to avoid dealing with our emotions. When
we pause and sense what we’re feeling, we can be open to how the hand of Spirit might touch us in that
very instant. Interestingly, when we stop thinking about what we ought to be doing and simply stay
present to what is happening, we end up being far more productive and creative.

JOURNEY
The Medicine Wheel is an ancient and universal map, the essence of which has been depicted and
used by many cultures since prehistoric times. In its most fundamental representation, it consists of
a circle with a middle point from which four or more spokes radiate to connect with the outer ring.
To make our passage through the Medicine Wheel richer and more dynamic, we venture through the
Hero’s Journey, another effective compass after mythologist Joseph Campell, guiding our journey of
spiraling transformation toward a more awakened and generous Self. It is important to remember that
the Medicine Wheel and the Hero’s Journey are maps. As with any other map, learning their lines
intellectually doesn’t mean that we know the territory. We must still cross through our own landscapes
of doubt, fear, and pain to arrive to further wisdom, love, and light.

XIBALBA
MYSTERIES OF THE MAYAN UNDERWORLD
According to the Mayan prophecies, the cosmos is composed of three main elements: heaven, earth and
the underworld, which is symbolized by a sacred tree, called Ceiba. The roots of this tree lead to the
dark lands of the lord Ah Puch, the lord of death and disease.
The Mayan word “Xibalba” literally means “the place of fear” and in their mythology, it is the lowest of
the nine underworlds and the realm of the dead. To go there it is necessary to overcome a series of
obstacles.
After crossing the rivers of scorpions, blood and pus, the shaman has to pass 5 tests or houses. The
first is the Dark House, where not a trace of light penetrates and the visitor must feel their way around
obstacles. The second is the Cold House, the house of isolation and separation. The third is the House
of the Hungry Jaguars, filled with hungry felines eager to rend any intruder. The fourth is the House of
Bats, filled with dangerous shrieking bats with sharp beaks, and the fifth is the House of Blades, filled
with blades and razors that move about of their own accord and slash anything in their way. The sixth
is the House of Fires, filled with fires and heat for rapid transformation. The purpose of these houses
was to kill or humiliate anyone trying to pass through them if they could not pass the tests successfully.

AMBUSHES
The dark side can take shape in many forms. We’ve already talked about the first three forms it can take:
Psychic Attack, Generational Curses, and Traps. The 4th form is the ambush, which gives us the feeling
that the universe is conspiring against us. But there is also a way to free yourself from the power of the
ambush. And this you can achieve by responding to your calling and coming into Ayni. Once you have
connected with your calling, you will be able to help others connect with theirs, by supporting them in
working on their inner map and compass.

RECONNECTING TO YOUR
INNER COMPASS
Most people come to see an energy healer when they have a health problem, rather than when they’re
fine. The diagnosis is a set of beliefs that they are regarding as real. The shaman must distinguish.
Focus on the story, not on the diagnosis. Rather than the disease map, get the energetic life map, find
out what their compass is, what drives them. They’re experiencing difficulty, probably because their
compass is off. A map should be anchored to the sacred, not just to recovery. We aim to support our
clients in turning from victims into heroes. Awakening to the reality of one’s existence has to lead to the
Great Departure: departing from a situation that no longer serves you, without blame. As your curiosity
begins to turn from the mundane to the sacred, you become a source of your own light.
EXERCISE:
QUESTION FOR SELF REFLECTION
Looking at your own sacred maps, where are the elements of the feminine and masculine present. What
is your guiding compass? Also, reflect on the sacred masculine and feminine energies as opposed to the
stereotypes and ideals that our society has placed on them.

THE BIRTH OF
THE DIVINE CHILD
Oftentimes we forget that we are interconnected, that separation and isolation are contrary to our
divine nature, and conformity leads to soul sickness. We are mapmakers of the soul and we map in the
state known as hummingbird, at the level of the mythic. Instead of following an old map handed to us
by our culture, family, and karma we instead choose to create a new and bigger one that satisfies the
longing of our soul. The shamans refer to the old map as the silver book and the new as the gold book.
This gold book has blank pages ready for us to write our own story, created from our inner divine nature.
What story are you creating?

THE SURVIVAL
OF THE WISEST
THIS IS A TIME IN WHICH WE CAN STEP INTO OUR FULL POTENTIAL AND
TAKE A QUANTUM LEAP TO TRANSFORM OUR SHADOWS INTO LIGHT.
We have the opportunity today to take the power to create and temper it with wisdom, infuse it
with love and allow it to organize a new world that is based on ethics, beauty and sustainability.
We are the stewards of all life as Earthkeepers. It is a time of great danger but also a time
of tremendous opportunity. All that it takes is for us to be in Ayni and living in a state of Yes.
Acting from wisdom means integrating all parts of ourselves, allowing the inner masculine and
feminine to come into union and expression in a sacred marriage with life.
In this module, we recapitulate the insights of the journey and learn how to integrate the
teachings and our own revelations into our private and professional life. Our fires can change
the world. Our meditation can change our lives. Our intention can change the earth. It is the
practice of carrying intentionality into the field that reorganizes the field into new possibilities.
Next time you begin to make a change in your life, bring it back to the wisdom, to the love, and
to the power to create. Change the map and observe what happens to the field! What is it that
emerges from it? This is your medicine. Witness the mind and lead it to a place of deep peace
and stillness so that the natural wisdom can grow unencumbered.

WISDOM TEACHINGS
1
EMBODYING THE
WISDOM TEACHINGS
Some of us know, without a doub,t that we were called to walk the path of the Shaman. Something
monumental and earth-shaking like disease, death, or war came along, changed our reality forever,
and we either embraced our spiritual calling or ran from it, doubting we could ever succeed in this
new endeavor. Initiation is nothing less than an invitation to an unimaginable destiny. It is fraught with
danger and opportunity. The outcome is not guaranteed. It requires a courageous response, and invites
us to become the hero of our own journey. World events are challenging us and calling us to continually
go deeper.
EXERCISE:
MAKING THE MEDICINE YOURS - FIRE CEREMONY
Write one of the main lessons you have learned throughout this course on a piece of paper, roll it or
fold it up and blow your intention into it. Put it into the fire. Now, use your hand to bring the energy of
that lesson into your forehead first. Then bring it into your heart center and finally into your belly area.
Journeying—a unique state of consciousness that you enter through guided meditations and breathing
exercises—allows you to revisit the past to heal events that occurred long ago, and to find more
desirable destinies for yourself and your loved ones. The Lower World is far more complex than it
appears at first glance. In fact, it’s divided into four chambers, each containing a record of your soul’s
history. As you journey, you will be able to read these records and uncover your deeply buried wounds,
contracts, blessings, and gifts.
In the Chamber of Contracts you’ll discover the soul promises that you’ve made. Many of these will be
terrible obligations that you agreed to before your current lifetime, and which you no longer remember.
Most were entered into during the fear and stress of your original wounding. In this chamber, you can
renegotiate the terms of an agreement that was poorly worded, and which sentenced you to repeated
suffering.
EXERCISE:
JOURNEY TO THE CHAMBER OF CONTRACTS
Journal about your experience with the Journey to the Chamber of Contracts. What contracts with
Spirit did you find out about? How do these contracts affect your life? What is the draft for the new
agreement with life? What is the price to pay?

THE LANDSCAPE OF LIFE

DESPACHO
THE LANDSCAPE OF LIFE
The despacho is a gift to the organizing principles of the universe, an energetic exchange for healing,
reestablishing perfect ayni (right relationship), or protection. The despacho is the living embodiment of
the shaman’s inner landscape, that which meets at the level of the soul and ultimately connects to the
source of all creation.
In the Andes, a despacho ceremony is performed (individually or communally) after each earth cycle
to renew and the powers of nature in our luminous body, to connect with the universe and accomplish
perfect ayni – not for us personally, but for the wellbeing of our “Ayllu”or group. A despacho brings the
shaman into harmonious relationship with Heaven and Earth, aligning the three worlds of the Uhupacha,
Kaypacha, Hanqpacha and the archetypical organizing principles of the Universe. Each item of offering
represents a prayer and a gift of power that sparks the momentum for energy shifts and healing.
EXERCISE:
CREATING YOUR OWN DESPACHO
Begin with a large piece of white or colored paper. This will be the “wrapping” for your offering – think
of it as a present. Flip chart paper or non-foil wrapping paper works well. Fold the paper into thirds one
way and then thirds the other way so you have nine squares. Working within the center square, you
begin to layer the burnable objects that have been informed with your breath, so the energetic essence
of your prayers is within each one.
A suggested list of contents, order and their meaning is below; however, there really are no rules. Create
your prayer bundle in a way that is meaningful to you. Once you have filled the despacho with your
prayers and vision for yourself and the Earth, fold the bundle into the shape of a gift; left to right, right
to left; then bottom up and top down. Tie it with a white cord and add one “Qintu” (an organized stack
fashioned with three leaves from a native tree, informed with a prayer) tucked into the yarn for any
“forgotten prayers.”
INGREDIENT SUGGESTIONS AND THEIR REPRESENTATIONS:
1. INTRODUCTION
• LARGE PIECE OF WHITE PAPER: Envelope of dreams in which we “write” our prayers. Blow your
intent for reciprocity and balance into this empty, folded gift.
• QINTU: In Peru, they typically use three coca leaves, but you can utilize three small leaves from
trees native to your area. We often use bay leaves, so look for leaves about that size.
• RED AND WHITE CARNATIONS: Red for the Earth and white for the mountains. Place a red and
a white carnation petal on top of the Qintu (to represent the snow-covered mountains reaching
the Heavens) on top of the red petal representing the Earth.
• BUILD THE FOUNDATION OF THE DESPACHO with the Quintus, informing each with your prayer
(use a minimum of 12 Qintus).
• COVER THE QINTUS with a little more sugar, representing even more love and sweetness.
• PLACE ONE OPEN SHELL IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PRAYERS, representing the womb of the Earth,
our source and birthplace. This holds us, nourishes us, and provides opportunity and safety.
• BEANS: For protection, abundance, power places, and the springs that nourish us.
• CORN: Sustenance, gift back to the Earth for what we have been given.
• FIGS: Spirits of the ancient ones who dwell in the sacred mountains.
• GUMMY OR CANDY FROGS: Represent messengers, envoys to carry our prayers; and cycle of
waters.
• RED AND WHITE CORD: Represents the “red” road and the Hatoon Yan, or road to the stars.
4. FINISHING IT OFF:
When you have placed all your items in the despacho, the corners of the large paper are then folded
over the contents so that they all overlap at the center to form a smaller square. Tie the despacho
without flipping it over so...
The despacho can be either buried (for slow, steady results), burned (for quicker transformation), or fed
to the running waters within a reasonable amount of time after it is prepared. When the despacho is
placed into the fire, participants generally do not look towards the flames until after the offering has
been burnt. This symbolizes non-attachment to the outcome and release of all claim to that which has
been given away.

YOUR DESTINY

RETRIEVING
YOUR DESTINY
For millennia, men and women of wisdom sought to understand the workings of destiny, using various
forms of divination to foretell future events or find solutions to problems. Shamans traditionally used
bones, crystals, shells, drums, power animals, and signs found in nature to foresee matters such as the
destiny of a newborn child, where to find sources of food and water, or the consequences of tribal
decisions.
While our modern culture tends to look for meaning in the visible, in the realm of things, people in
ancient times looked for meaning beyond the visible. Shamans still communicate with the invisible
world of Spirit through the use of symbols, understanding that things are not merely as they appear to
be—there is a hidden dimension, and all things have two aspects: essence and matter.
Today, the task of reading the signs of destiny falls upon every one of us. We have the ability to
converse directly with Spirit, dialogue with the forces of nature, speak with the great archetypes
without intermediaries, and become our own prophets and visionaries.

THE EPIC JOURNEY
When the young prince Siddartha saw for the first time what lay outside of the walls of his palace and
how sheltered his life had been, he was stirred so deeply, he was moved to leave behind the comforts
of the known to take the next step in his growth. This is what is described as the Great Departure. It
is up to every individual to decide when they want to take this step in their own life or remain in the
sheltered nest, but there can be no growth without it. We are the ones we have been waiting for: the
ones who can replace anger with healing and despair with hope. The time is now. To make this leap into
our becoming, we must shed the way the entire history of humanity lives within us.
