COURSE OBJECTIVES:
 To enable the student to understand the role of sensors and the networking of
sensed data for different applications.

the medium access and routing issues and the energy constrained operational
scenario.

localization of sensor networks.
 To explain topology management for effective and sustained communication

sensor networks- case study, Enabling Technologies for Wireless Sensor Networks.
UNIT II ARCHITECTURES 9
Single-Node Architecture - Hardware Components, Energy Consumption of Sensor Nodes,
Operating Systems and Execution Environments, Network Architecture - Sensor Network
Scenarios, Optimization Goals and Figures of Merit, Gateway Concepts. Physical Layer
and Transceiver Design Considerations

MAC Protocols for Wireless Sensor Networks, Zigbee, Low Duty Cycle Protocols and
Wakeup Concepts - S-MAC, Mediation device Protocol, Wakeup Radio Concepts, Address
and Name Management, Assignment of MAC Addresses, Routing Protocols- Energy-
Efficient Routing, Geographic Routing

UNIT IV INFRASTRUCTURE ESTABLISHMENT 9


Topology Control, Clustering, Time Synchronization, Localization and Positioning, Sensor
Tasking and Control.

UNIT V DATA MANAGEMENT AND SECURITY 9


Data management in WSN, Storage and indexing in sensor networks, Query processing in
sensor, Data aggregation, Directed diffusion, Tiny aggregation, greedy aggregation,
security in WSN.
