Introduction to Computing Project
Report Format

Introduction
This document describes the format for project reports to be submitted for IT1001 /
GEM1511K. Students have to ensure that their reports conform to the required format upon
submission.

Project Report
The text of the report shall be double-spaced with a Times font size 11. All sections of the
paper should be typed, double-spaced on A4 paper with margins set appropriately for filing or
binding.
Appendices should be kept small and submitted together with the main report.
The report should be written clearly and concisely, including only relevant information.

Report Format
All reports should be presented in the following sequence:
1. Front cover
2. Table of Contents
3. Main Report
4. References

Further elaboration of important points are given as follows:

Front Cover (see Sample Front Cover on pg 2)


The front cover should consist of the Group Number, the group members’ names and the
words “IT1001/GEM1511K Introduction to Computing Project Report” and “School of
Computing, National University of Singapore”.

Table of Contents (see Sample Table of Contents on pg 3)


The contents page should cover at least the following sections in order:
Introduction
<Main Report>
Conclusion
References
In addition to headings, sub-headings can also be used.

The contents should cover at least the following sections:


Introduction
This section will address the problem statement, a brief review of relevant literature.

Main Report
This section will include all supporting ideas.

Conclusion
This section should describe the conclusions you reach and relate these to the problem
statement.

References
A list of all books, report, papers, etc., referred to in the report and ideas taken from them
during the course of the project should be given under the References section. Please follow
the referencing and citation format as given in the project specifications.

Page number and Section number


All pages in the main report shall be numbered from 1, 2, 3, ….
All appendices should be numbered as A-1, A-2, and etc. for pages under appendix A, and B-
1, B-2, and etc. for pages under appendix B.
Use a hierarchical numbering scheme for labeling different sections. For instance, use 1 for
section one, 2 for section 2, 1.1 for the subsection of section 1, and etc.
