GENERAL NOTES FOR
FABRICATED FRAMED SCAFFOLDS

• Fall protection or fall arrest systems— Each employee more than 10 feet
above a lower level shall be protected from falls by guardrails or a fall arrest
system, except those on single-point and two-point adjustable suspension
scaffolds. Each employee on a single-point and two-point adjustable suspended
scaffold shall be protected by both a personal fall arrest system and a guardrail.

• Guardrail height—the height of the top rail for scaffolds manufactured and
placed in service must be between 38 inches (0.9meters) and 45 inches (1.2
meters). The height of the top rail for scaffolds can be between 36inches (0.9
meters) and 45 inches (1.2 meters).

• Cross bracing—When the cross point of cross bracing is used as a top rail, it
must be between 38 inches (0.97 m) and 48 inches (1.3meters) above the work
platform.

• Mid rails— mid rails must be installed approximately halfway between the top
rail and the platform surface. When a cross point of cross bracing is used as a mid-
rail, it must be between 20 inches (0.5meters) and 30 inches (0.8 m) above the
work platform.

• Footings—Support scaffold footings shall be level and capable of supporting the

loaded scaffold. The legs, poles, frames, and uprights shall bear on base plates and
mud sills.

• Platforms—Supported scaffold platforms shall be fully planked or decked.

• Guying ties, and braces—Supported scaffolds with a height-to-base of more than

4:1 shall be restrained from tipping by guying, tying, bracing, or the equivalent.

• Capacity—Scaffolds and scaffold components must support at least 4 times the

maximum intended load. Suspension scaffold rigging must at least 6times the
intended load.

•Employers must provide access when the scaffold platforms are more than 2 feet
(0.6 meters) above or below a point of access. Direct access is acceptable when the
scaffold is not more than 14 inches (36 centimeters) horizontally and not more
than 24 inches (61centimeters)vertically from the other surfaces.
LOAD ANALYSIS FOR

FABRICATED FRAMED SCAFFOLDING

Dead Load

1.) Scaffolding Vertical Frame = 0.25KN/PC

2.) Steps for Scaffolding = 0.15KN/PC

Live Load

1.) Construction Load = 12.5 KN/m²

Other Relevant Data

1.) No wind load is taken in account

Scaffolding Dimension =1220(W) x 1830mm (L) x 1700mm (H)

Design For External Perimeter Scaffolding

SCAFFOLDING FRAMES

3 STOREY BUILDING → MAXIMUM FLIGHT OF FRAME (≤ 11.5m )

Dead Load

Vertical Frame 25 x 11.5 = 287.5 kg

Steps 15 x 11.5 = 172.5 kg

Cross Brace 5 x 11.5 x 2 = 115 kg

Joint Pin 0.5 x 10 x 2 = 30 kg

Jack Base 6.8 x 2 = 13.6 kg

Tie Back 2.2 x 5 = 11 kg

Safety Net (15 x 1.8 ) (2) = 54 kg

Total = 683.6 kg

Live load

2 Workers 80 Kg x 2 = 160 Kg

Construction Debris & Materials Assume = 100 kg

--------- = 260 Kg x 3 ( Working Levels)

Total = 780 Kg
Total Load = 1.2 DL + 1.6 LL

= 1.2 ( 683.6 Kg ) + 1.6 ( 780Kg )

= 2068.32 Kg ( 9.81 m/s²)

= 20.29 KN < 50 KN → Ok for the Allowable Load per Frame

Platform for Scaffolding

Loading

Dead Load

Equivalent Load =6.836 KN / ( 1.7m x 1.22m )

=3.296 kN/m²

Live Load

Construction Load = 2.5 KN/m²

Scaffolding Platform @ 1.8 m c/c

Dead Load for Uniformly Distributed Load = 9.4 ( 1.8)

= 16. 92 KN/m

Live Load for Uniformly Distibuted Load = 12.5 ( 1.8)

= 22.5Kn/m

Scaffolding Platform Connection

Welding

Allowable weld Shear Stress, Fvw = 215 kPa

P =0.707 (Fvw) (t)

Using 6mm Fillet weld, Capacity = 0.707 (.215 MPa) ( 6mm)

P = 0.9 KN/mm

Critical Shear at Catch Platform = 37.26/1.8

= 20.7 mm

Therefore : Welding Length requires =20.7mm

Bolting 100KN

Bolt Group Design

Nc=3

20mmø 100

Nr=1 225

The applied force is : 100 KN

Allowable Shearing Stress of bolt = 150MPa

P =Fv x Abolt

P = 150 ( π/4 (20)² (3)) )

P = 141.371 KN

The capacity of the Bolt = 141. 371 KN

The Configuration Requires 20mm bolts for a capacity of 141.12 KN

Bolt Shear Design is Safe

Use 20mm dia. Rod at Spacing of 225 mm
