NONDESTRUCTIVE EXAMINATION

1. PURPOSE
The purpose of this procedure is to perform the Nondestructive Examination [NDE] at project
site.
2. SCOPE
The scope of this procedure is to carry out the applicable Nondestructive Examination in
pressure parts, piping, pressure vessels, and structure as specified in ITP / drawing.

4. PROCEDURE
4.1 RADIOGRAPHIC EXAMINATION
This procedure outlines the methods and techniques to be used for Gamma Ray and X-Ray
Radiography of welds / welded components of pressure parts, piping and pressure vessels of
any thickness up to 200 mm in accordance with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section-
I, Section-VIII Div-1, Section-V, B31.1, Section-IX, NBIC Code latest edition, and structural welds
shall be in accordance with AWS D1.1.
4.2 ULTRASONIC EXAMINATION
This procedure covers technique and acceptance standards to be used for Ultrasonic
Examination of weld joints in ferritic, wrought and cast materials having thickness equal to or
greater than 13mm and is in conformance with the requirements of with ASME Boiler and
Pressure Vessel Code Section-V, Section-I, Section-VIII Div-1, B31.1 and NBIC Code latest
edition. Latest approved methods can be used.
4.3 MAGNETIC PARTICLE EXAMINATION
This procedure covers Magnetic Particle Examination by fluorescent and visible [non-
fluorescent] wet method and acceptance standards, which shall be followed whenever this
procedure is specified. This procedure meets the requirements of ASME Boiler and Pressure
Vessel Code Section-I, Section-VIII Div.1, Section-V, B31.1 and NBIC latest code edition. All
ferromagnetic materials and weldments of any shape or size shall be examined for 100% of
their areas unless otherwise specified.

4.4 LIQUID PENETRANT EXAMINATION
This procedure covers technique and acceptance standards to be used for Liquid Penetrant
Examination of all steel materials and weldments of any shape or size shall be examined 100%
unless otherwise specified in accordance with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section-
I, Section-VIII Div-1, Section-V, B31.1 latest edition.
Procedure controls numbers for Radiographic examination [RT], Ultrasonic Examination [UT]
and Liquid Penetrant Examination [LPT] are given below.
